Junior Equestrian of the Year Kirsten Jeansson was selected as the Junior Equestrian of the Year. Senior Equestrian of the Year Alexis Arnell was selected as the Senior Equestrian of the Year. Winner of Challenge of the Clubs: Young Riders Rough Riders Scholarship winner was Clare Gallogly. A Note From the Senior Equestrian of the Year: Get ready, get set, GO! Hello my name is Alexis Arnell, your 2011 Senior Equestrian of the Year! This year is gonna be a busy one, I have a lot of plans before I represent the county at states next year. The Equestrian of the Year experience is a great one. The process has taught me so much, from how to do a proper interview, to making a speech on stage. I was very fortunate to be pushed to run again, after winning Jr. Equestrian of the Year last year. Thank you to Mrs. Trout for all she does to keep this contest in Burlington County. This year I hope to make a difference in the 4-H community! Having a voice is very important to the youth and I'm glad I have the chance to represent on the Horse Advisory! Let's make a great year! Thank you, Alexis Arnell 6

By bringing together the resources of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, RAH works to increase awareness of hunger, encourage activism and service to tackle hunger, stimulate research to assist those in need, and provide immediate relief through food drives and other events to raise money and collect food. From food drives to 4-H programs, from grocery-shopping advice to agricultural research, Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) aims to increase awareness of hunger and encourage community service to help those in need. RAH enlists the assistance of Rutgers students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the concerned public in efforts to stock food banks, provide consumer education on nutrition, deliver technical and organizational support to community groups, and conduct research toward improving food production, packaging, and distribution. Rutgers Against Hunger partners with the New Jersey Federation of Food Banks which includes The Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the Food Bank of South Jersey, the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank, and NORWESCAP Food Bank as well as several other community food banks and pantries throughout the state. In seeking to make a difference in New Jersey and beyond, Rutgers Against Hunger draws on the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Rutgers. With 52,000 students, nearly 9,000 faculty and staff, and 360,000 living alumni (208,000 in New Jersey), Rutgers is well positioned to take a leadership role in seeking to alleviate hunger, whether through RAH's university wide food drive, agricultural research at Rutgers' New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, or outreach efforts involving Rutgers Cooperative Extension. 10 Club News The Active Citizenship Club had a great time participating in the Farm Fair this year. During the months preceding the Fair, we were quite busy with preparations. After coming up with ideas, we voted on which ones to proceed with. We then worked together to decide how to carry out our plans and to gather the needed supplies. After, we began work on our Farm Fair projects. We designed our booth display, focusing on our club s activities. Also, we made a patriotic scarecrow out of recyclable materials. The Wednesday before the Farm Fair, we painted a barrel showing the New Additions and Old Traditions of our club. Finally, the week of the Farm Fair arrived. Our booth looked really nice. In the center of the table was a display board showing our club s activities. Surrounding the board was a wooden frame covered with photos of our club and adorned with patriotic lights. We got an Excellent ribbon for this booth display. Furthermore, we got an Outstanding ribbon (94/100) for our painted barrel and first place for our scarecrow. On the second day of the Fair, Thursday, July 21, the club spend a few hours operating the 4-H tent s information table, telling others about 4-H and selling quilt raffle tickets. Being involved in the Farm Fair was a great experience for Active Citizenship. Here is what Trevor McDonald, a new member of Active Citizenship, has to say about the Farm Fair and 4-H: I, as a new 4-H member thought that the 2011 Farm Fair was a big success. Every single person that walked into the tent while my club members and families were running the tent seemed interested in some Active Citizenship Club way. 4-H also helps kids get involved in the summer. Most kids that aren t involved in this beneficial program are sitting and watching the television or on the computer. During the Farm Fair this year, all clubs had the opportunity to make scarecrows, paint trash cans (barrels) to make them more colorful, and also make a complete booth telling what your group was all about. Another thing that helped me get involved this summer was the Rutgers Extension 4-H Overnight Camp in Branchville New Jersey. The staff is super friendly and spends time with every individual camper they are in charge of. There are many activities including shooting sports (archery, muzzle loader, air rifles, 3D Archery), Outdoor Activities (survival class, fishing, cooking, hiking and exploration class, pioneer living), Craft Activities (pottery, clay and ceramics, beading, friendship bracelets, beady buddies), even Drama and Advanced Drama classes are available at this amazing summer camp! 4-H is an extraordinary program. And all of this fun starts when you find about the 4-H at the Burlington County Farm Fair! 11 Club News Burlington County 4-H Cloggers Since our last report, we have been busy! First, a report on our plastic bottle cap collection. Our club collected plastic bottle caps to donate to a local hospital to be recycled and the money donated to families of patients to help with the cost of their treatments. We collected over 350lbs. of plastic bottle caps. We had two teams, the Green Team with Captain Emma Pestritto and the White Team with Captain Olivia Szumski. We had a competition between the two teams to see which one could collect the most bottle caps, at half way mark, the White Team was ahead. We will post which team won in our next Headlines! Thanks, everyone for a job well done. The leaders would like to thank all the members who presented at the County Level for Public Presentations. Great job, everyone. A very special thanks to those who qualified and presented at State Level. All of our ladies who went to states did a fantastic job and we are very proud of them! We had a very successful turnout for the Garden State Stomp. Many of our members attended and they performed during the evening routines. Our newest number Soul Sister quickly became a favorite and was a crowd pleaser. We danced at the Creek Run Camp on July 2 nd and had a great time. McGuire Blue Falcons 4-H Club The McGuire Blue Falcons 4-H Summer Robotics Club has been busy working on junk drawer robotics and building and programming Lego NXT Mindstorm robots. When asked, What do you like about being in a 4-H Robotics Club? members responded: Of course, preparing for Farm Fair was our big project. Many thanks to Chelsea and her mom and grandmom for their help at set up on Sunday, July 17 th. Thank you to all members who came out to decorate on Tuesday, July 19 th. Even though we had to be creative and decorate in a way we never have before, the stage looked great for the fair! Next was the Future Farm Fair Queen Parade, several of our members joined the fun and had their picture taken with 2010 Queen Victoria Francis. We are so happy to report that our club member Carol Guest was in the contest and won Second Runner Up! Carol then spent time at the Fair walking the grounds, greeting the visitors and handing out giveaways. Thank you Carol!!!! The record heat for Farm Fair this year did nothing to stop the Cloggers, our performance Thursday evening was a highlight and filled the show tent! We are on our summer break right now, we will be starting up again in September when we turn our project books in. We will also be welcoming new members. Our final bit of news is that our leader Jessica Zappley and her husband Chris are expecting their first baby in December! Another Clogger on their way!!! Congratulations Chris and Jessica!
