1 Kevin Hebert, Director Tennessee High School 1112 Edgemont Avenue Bristol, TN Band Room Telephone: MERRY CHRISTMAS! W e l c o m e t o t h e / M ig h t y Viking Band!!! w w w. b t c s. o r g / t h s / b a n d December 2009 Fruit Orders Great Job! Together, we sold $14,453 of fruit!!! Please come and pick up your orders on Saturday, Dec 5th from 10 AM 12 PM at the Viking Hall Loading dock (near the track field) We need 10 volunteer workers to separate and organize the fruit orders on Friday evening, December 4th. Start time is 6:00 PM. Remember, DO NOT leave fruit where it will freeze if you cannot deliver it right away. Any questions, contact Gina Taylor or Earl McVay at The THS MVB Band Booster Board extends Best Wishes and Happy Holidays to all our students and families. VIKING HALL The Band Board cannot stress enough the importance of working the concession stands at Viking Hall. The revenue the band receives is absolutely vital to the band budget. VOLUNTEERS ARE ESSENTIAL!!! Parents and students need to help themselves and each other and take advantage of this opportunity to work and help support the Band. It is extremely important everyone try to work a 4 hour shift. If everyone will pull together and volunteer 4 hours at various times, the band will maintain the percentage we receive from the Athletic Dept and reduce the final payment for the spring trip. Without Viking Hall, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE MORE OF A FINANCIAL BURDEN for our students to participate!!! There isn t anything difficult, hard or terribly laborious about this work. You might make a new friend and have a good time! C mon out!!! DO NOT ASSUME SOMEONE ELSE WILL DO IT!!!! CALL NOW!!! 7 ARBY S CLASSIC THIS EVENT REQUIRES 46 WORKERS PER DAY! Everyone, students and parents should be able to schedule a 4 hour shift for our band students. It s in the best interest of our band overall for all of us to do our part and work together. All parents are automatically part of the Band Boosters. The contribution of your time helps to make the band a better organization for your child, and also helps reduce the cost of participation. When EVERYONE thinks that SOMEONE will get the job done, then NO ONE comes forward to do it, then there is a problem. Our Band needs YOU to step up! Schedule will be on the Website. All worked time by everyone now goes toward the Spring Trip! We need EVERY- ONE to volunteer and work a couple of shifts at Viking Hall so that we will be able to reduce the cost of the final payment on the spring trip. In addition, the band booster budget is still operating in the red, even with MITC behind us. This is significant...we simply cannot afford to lose the money we receive from Viking Hall. WE NEED YOUR HELP. The Band made $18,000 last year from Viking Hall. The Athletic Boosters would love to have this back!!! We cannot afford to lose this money!!! Please contact BJ Garst: bjgarst@embarqmail.com or to schedule a shift to work. Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work. ~Vince Lombardi The Mighty Viking Band Monthly Newsletter Page 7
8 Thank you to those who have volunteered at Viking Hall this season to keep our Band going. It takes EVERYONE to do their part to make the Mighty Viking Band successful. We see the same faces volunteering at all the functions which is very unfair to the rest of us. It takes more than a few dedicated people to make it successful. We have many senior parents leaving us and need the freshmen and sophomore parents to step in and shoulder some of the responsibility. We all have busy lives with jobs, children and outside commitments. It s a proven fact that the more involved the parents are, the more successful our children will be. C mon folks...let s all do our part for our kids!!! MAKE THAT CALL! YOU HAVE JOINED THE BAND WITH YOUR STUDENT!!! VOLUNTEER!!! YOU ARE NEEDED!!! Students...we need you to do YOUR part with NO whining, NO complaining, NO sass and NO fooling around! You simply need to show up ON TIME, put a smile on your face, do your part, be respectful, pull your own weight and let s get the job done. NO BOYFRIENDS AND GIRLFRIENDS HANGING AROUND!!! This is a JOB!!! From L to R: Vanessa, Aislynn, Rachel, BJ, Bill and Raven Thank you to everyone who is volunteering. You deserve a round of applause for donating your time to the band. It is very much appreciated! The Mighty Viking Band Monthly Newsletter Page 8
