1 GOLDEN BEAR OLYMPIANS GOLDEN BEARS GO INTERNATIONAL Lindsay James Chloe Kloezeman Since softball s inception as an Olympic sport in 1996, a Golden Bear player or coach has participated in each Olympiad. Cal players have also competed for various national teams during non-olympic years. Michele Granger (USA), Gillian Boxx (USA) and Lisa Martinez (Puerto Rico) appeared in the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta. In addition, former Cal assistant coach Kim Maher, a standout at Fresno State, played for the United States as well that summer. In 2004 Olympics in Athens, head coach Diane Ninemire, along with Lindsay James and Chloe Kloezeman, suited up for the inaugural Greek national team, while Nicole DiSalvio returned for a second stint with Italian national team. Nicole DiSalvio Michele Granger A four-time All-American from , Granger was a member of the USA Olympic team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Granger squared off against former Golden Bear Lisa Martinez in the firstever Olympic softball game. Granger finished the Summer Games 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA and 25 strikeouts. Her wins came in the opener against Puerto Rico and in the gold medal game against China. Gillian Boxx A four-time All-American from , Boxx was a member of the USA Olympic team that won the Gold Medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. She caught in six of the nine contests and hit.250 with one double and three RBI. Lisa Martinez Martinez ( ) was the NorPac Conference of the Year in 1985 and had a 0.22 ERA in Martinez was a member of Puerto Rico s Olympic team at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, and was the starting pitcher against Team USA in the first-ever Olympic softball game. Seven former Cal players are competing in the National Pro Fastpitch softball league. Lisa Iancin and Jocelyn Forest both play for the New England Riptide. Chelsea Spencer, Emily Friedman, and Kristina Thorson play on the Philadelphia Force. Kaleo Eldrege competes on the Arizona Heat, and Vicky Galindo appears on the Chicago Bandits roster. Vicky Galindo Chosen by the Chicago Bandits in 2005, Galindo was selected to the 2005 NPF All-Star team. Galindo hit.455 to lead the US National Team to the title game in the inaugural World Cup of Softball held in Oklahoma City in 2005 as well.
