He went to college at 3 Rivers College and Missouri State University where he graduated and got his teaching license. He said his generation did not value learning, and he began teaching to change that. Mr. Rockwood says he is used to living in a small town, so Lockwood feels like home already, though it is a challenge to make subjects interesting and to make assignments. Teaching has been a fun and rewarding experience for him, with the Mr. Rockwood, the Lockwood High School Science Teacher only problem students have given him is an over abundance of energy. He said that, if he was the President of the United States, he would simplify tax forms and provide more school funding for learning. As our newest teacher, Mr. Rockwood shall make a difference his generation never had. S T U D E N T C O U N C I L H A P P E N I N G S B Y W I L L B E E R L Y The Lockwood Student Council kicked off the year with their first meeting on Wednesday, August 31. There was a different aura in the room following the departure of Mrs. Jones as the sponsor of Stu-Co. When asked about it, the new sponsor, Ms. Ruscher said, I've got big shoes to fill, but I m eager to take on the challenge. Continued on Page 2.

2 Page 2 Volume 1, Issue 1 Continued from Page 1 Some of the topics discussed in this week's meeting were the title and theme for Homecoming. They settled on Aloha Homecoming as the title and a Luau theme. Much debate was engaged in when dis- cussing the queen crowning processions, but there were concessions made and a decision reached. The processions will continue to be the way they have been in the past. Overall, the meeting was an important one, with Homecoming being one of Student Council s biggest responsibilities. Lockwood FBLA kicks off new year The path to the future is paved by us. The Lockwood Future Business Leaders of America Program had their first meeting of the year on Wednesday, August 31. The Lockwood FBLA sponsor, Mrs. Allison, said she felt good about the meeting, and she felt like FBLA had a lot of interest. Everybody who attended the meeting seemed to have a great interest in getting involved and helping with all the FBLA activities. I m hoping to get more kids involved in competitions, and move up onto the next level in competing, Mrs. Allison said. During that meeting, the President of FBLA was announced to be junior Drew Cer- rone. The Vice President this year is Rylee Neill, who is also a Junior. The best thing about Lockwood FBLA is that most everyone is involved with activities throughout the year, she added. That's how the Lockwood FBLA kicked off the school year. After the parade, little Billy Billingtonsworth wanders around the playground hoping to find something fun to do. In this atmosphere of fun and entertainment, Billy was going to have so much fun, or so he thought. Billy was so excited to go while eating breakfast, he spilled milk on his shirt; now, it was starting to stink. September Days Madness With a mass of people blocking the road, Billy was unable to get to his car and drive home. Now, he always makes sure to bring spare clothing in a car parked in front of the bank at 5:00 a.m. before he leaves. This year s September Days Festival, people enjoyed a marvelous parade, a fun assortment of things to do, and yummy treats to go around. King s Point Baptist Church sold snow cones at their booth, and was happy to see all the smiling faces they encountered. The Grant family hosted their usual Baseball/Football Toss, and the turtle races had a sight to behold with one of the fastest turtles in Lockwood winning the race. Continued on page 3

3 The Tiger Tribune Page 3 Continued from page 3 Many of the students had fun playing Human foosball, and the basketball team's dunk tank allowed people to soak some of the basketball players, such as Cade Holman. In the meantime, everyone enjoyed playing and having fun and/or shopping at the various booths lined up by the post office. It is safe to say that this year s festival was a success. Sports Section Lockwood Tigers shut out the Rich Hill Tigers By Skylar Neill On Friday, August 26th, the Lockwood Tigers faced the Rich Hill Tigers, and the crowd learned who the best and more talented tiger team was. The Lockwood Tigers had a hard fought battle against Rich Hill, but Lockwood came out on top with a 33-0 win. After the game, Head Coach Clay Lasater said, It was a win. He added that he believed the MVP of the game was Justin Nentrup, who has the reputation of being a very hard nosed player who runs behind his pads. Coach Lasater believed that the Lockwood Tigers preparation before the game was lacking, although the offense being able to run the football allowed the team to score points. On the defensive side of the football, Lockwood played well, keeping Rich Hill out of the end zone. Coach Lasater said his biggest fear coming into the game is that Lockwood would Homecoming win for the Tigers overlook Rich Hill. I think we ve got a good group that s fun to coach and, collectively, they have a lot of potential, but we need to work out some kinks so that we can play like a veteran team, even though we have a bunch of 1 year varsity starters," Coach Lasater said. The Tigers season is going well with a 2-0 record after week 2. The Lockwood Tigers will be travelling to Forsyth this upcoming Friday. The future does not fit in containers of the past. On Friday, September 9th, the Lockwood Tigers faced off with the Archie Whirlwinds in a hard fought battle. It was homecoming for the home team Tigers who came out on top in the contest. 4 Page 4 Volume 1, Issue 1 Coach Lasater said that sweep on the strong side and also weak side iso we're going to be a couple big things the Tigers needed to prepare for. Sweep is where the ball is ran to the outside of the line and iso is where they run the ball right off either guard s back. Unfortunately, the Tigers were not allowed much preparation coming into this game. This is due to Labor Day weekend, and with the JV team playing on Tuesday, the Tigers weren t allowed much preparation at all. Both teams played a very hard fought game and are tremendous football teams. The Tigers did come out on top though with a score of Coach Lasater said the key to winning the game was the physical line play by the Tigers. That is how the Lockwood Tigers 2016 Football Homecoming went. The Beerly Buzz Drug Tests Unfairly Target Those Who Participate By Will Beerly The Beerly Buzz is an editorial column by Will Beerly, the Student Editor of the Tiger Tribune, with commentary about issues affecting the school and community. This school year, The Lockwood Board of Education voted to enact a new drug testing program over the student body. This program states that every student who wants to participate in an extracurricular activity, or be a member of any club, must enter their name into the testing pool. Students have formed their opinions and haven't been shy about sharing them. When asked about the program, junior Justin Nentrup said, I don't like it. This is a similar sentiment shared with his fellow students Roy Snider and Kyle Bouldin. I personally don't have a strong opinion either way on the drug testing. I will say this; I feel that it is unfair to only test those who are active and get involved. You are basically giving students an incentive to not participate. Is that the atmosphere we want to create? The path to the future is paved by us. Spirits Run High By Will Beerly Lockwood High School screams tradition. From the half moon back boards, to the double post field goals on the gridiron, there is the feel of tradition. The students and the fans of the program embrace these traditions and are very spirited about their Tigers. This week especially, that support shows. Continued on Page 5

This week is Homecoming, and the students and fans are pulling all the stops to let the Tigers know, we've got your back. At the school, it is Spirit Week. The students will dress according to certain themes throughout the week to show their pride. Tuesday was Pajama day, Wednesday was Class Color day, Thursday was Hawaiian day, and Friday was the traditional Red, Black, and White day. Overall, Lockwood High School is a school full of spirit and support, and I am proud to call it home. Tiger Tribune Staff Autobiog raphies Will the Thrill By Will Beerly I, William Mcguire Beerly, was born October 30th, 1998, in The University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. I lived there for a few years, and then moved to Golden City, Missouri where I lived the next 10 years of my life. I currently live in Lockwood and am a senior in high school. I plan to graduate and attend the University of Missouri, or pursue college golf. I'm not sure yet. I will be serving as the paper's editor this year and am excited for the opportunities that this position will bring. Tiger Tribune staff members are from left to right: Tyler Aldridge, Skylar Neill, and Will Beerly Skylar Neill Well, as you all know, my name is Skylar Neill, and I live in a small town called Lockwood, Missouri. I was born and raised in Lockwood, and I have also lived in the same house all 17 years of my life. I have one sibling and his name is Lakin; he can be annoying at times, but he can be okay to get along with. My parents names are Heather and Kevin Neill, both originally from Lockwood as well. They have been married for over 20 years and are still together. They were both married once before they met, and both of their previous marriages ended in a divorce. Some of my goals are to graduate high school at Lockwood, attend college at Missouri Valley and play small college football. I enjoy sports very much and would like to be a physical therapist or sports trainer for injured athletes. I was first interested in this field of work after I tore my ACL, MCL and also my meniscus. That s a little bit about me, Skylar John Neill. Tyler Aldridge My name is Tyler Aldridge, I was born on February 12th, For my entire life, I have lived in Lockwood, Missouri. I ve always been different from my peers, instead of an outdoorsman like my family. -Continued on page 6

6 Tyler Aldridge I was always into technology and video games, which was sparked when I saw Transformers. If I never became so fascinated with machines and robots, I wouldn t be the person I am today. When I was two years old, I got a little brother which was not as awesome as I thought it would be. When he got a few years older, he, for some reason, started picking on me, which made me look weak to some of my classmates. They began to bully me too; let s just say, the 5th and 6th grades were not the best experiences for me. One day, I was on my computer, and I saw a YouTube video of a guy playing video games and doing various game play skits. I searched around YouTube to see that gaming was a trending topic. I d always love video games, but I never knew how popular they really were. It was now clear that this was something I wanted to do, I wanted to be like some of my favorite YouTubers. Over the summer, I downloaded O.B.S. (Open Broadcast Software) and started making my own gaming videos on various different games, under the name ElectroguyTJ. So far, everyone that I have made videos with, such as my brother, best friend, and cousin, have decided to make their own channels. My dream for the future is to become so popular that YouTube is my career, but if that doesn't work out, I could be a voice actor. My favorite games are Undertale, Five Nights At Freddy s, Minecraft, Roblox, and Scrap Mechanic. My favorite shows are Gravity Falls, Power Rangers, and Transformers, as well as Pokemon and Digimon.
