1 Pathway Goal: Community Partnerships Report: Year-End: July 2018 Action Item # 5-7 Top Tier Initiative Action Item Report Action Item Description: Goal: Build relationships through, and invite support of, athletics. Action: Develop student-athlete character through community outreach. Submitted By: Name Mallory Poole Department Intercollegiate Athletics SA Development Working Group Members: Name Rebecca Pugh Mallory Poole Andy Grossman Department Academic Success Intercollegiate Athletics SA Development Intercollegiate Athletics Process and Timeline: Provide a brief summary of the year-long process for your working group. Community service hours of student-athletes in all sports, tracked by Rebels with a Cause Community Outreach, reported annually Accomplishments. For the second consecutive year, the student-athletes earned the Mountain West Community Service Challenge. Based on the current scoring structure, our Rebels completed 3,881 hours of service and gathered 12,473 collectibles (converted into hours) during the academic year. It is worth mentioning that the current MW community service structure is on the table for discussion. Specifically, they are looking to adjust how the collectibles are converted. SWOT Analysis: Determine the strengths, weakness, opportunities, and threats presented. Strength(s) Every team was represented in community engagement efforts in Weakness(es) Opportunity(ies) Threat(s) Limited time/current structure being used to get participation of department members Impact on our school district and other community entities Time as far as the quantity; quality will still be there when building relationships CMP Year-End Report 1 of 2 7/23/2018
2 Top Tier Initiative Action Item Report recommendations and next steps What does the SWOT analysis reveal? What should the goals / activities be for the subcommittee? Who should be responsible? The SWOT analysis revealed that while every team had representation in the community, not every student-athlete was directly participating in our engagement efforts. In developing our top priorities as an athletic department, we are committed to providing a first-class holistic student-athlete experience. Additionally, we are devoted to providing value to the University, Las Vegas Community, and the state of Nevada. Part of fulfilling those priorities will not only come in the form of student-athlete development and community engagement opportunities, but additionally in deepening the impact that we have in building relationships with community members through those efforts. With that said, we also like to recommend/propose changing the wording of this action item to better align with our new mission statement, core values, and priorities that are in place to take steps towards Top Tier status. We will be able to provide further measurements and progression in community partnerships with this new wording. Recommendation: Develop, implement, and continue contribution towards a 1 st class holistic studentathlete experience Goal: Every student-athlete and staff member will participate in one community engagement event per semester per academic year.
