MOON AREA QUARTERBACK CLUB MOON TIGER FOOTBALL AND CHEER NEWSLETTER Volume 1 / Issue 5 WEEKLY SCHEDULE September 2-8 FOOTBALL: Monday: 8am 11:00am Tuesday: 3pm 5:30pm Wednesday: 3pm 5:30pm Thursday: 3pm 8pm Friday: Home 7pm Saturday: JV arrive 7:15am Others arrive at 8am for film review CHEER: Tuesday: 6pm-8pm Thursday: 6pm-8pm Friday: Home 7pm *schedules are subject to change WEEK 2 Our first game on the road is behind us! Thank you to all of our parents and fans that traveled to our farthest game this season! We received many compliments on our great fans! We love the cheering, the signs and all of those senior heads! Unfortunately, we did not pull out a win, but the boys fought hard and we know they will be back on the grind this week in preparation for Pine Richland which will for sure be a challenging game for us. We know our boys are up for the challenge! It was nice having a week off of all of our duties but we are back at it this week. PLEASE check the volunteer duties to help out where you can. This week is YOUTH NIGHT! This is a great night for all of the young football players and cheerleaders we have in our community. PLEASE come early to watch our boys and girls parade around the track prior to the game. We will be celebrating the kids ages 6 and up that are a part of the Moon Crescent Athletic Association (MCAA) and the Middle School. The kids are always very excited at all of the attention. The cheerleaders will also be on the track cheering with the older girls during the game!
CONCESSION STAND Still looking for a manager of the concession stand! A senior parent has been fulfilling this duty although she is supposed to be hands off during her child s senior year. We can t believe no one has stepped up to fulfill this important role for us, but also to allow our senior parents time to enjoy their last year. We are really hoping for someone (even a group of friends) to step up and help out! We ll give you lots of help! The concession duty sign up is pretty empty. Our class liaisons have to go through their rosters to see who hasn t signed up yet. Please make it easy on everyone and sign up as soon as possible! We need to see where we have potential holes. We really appreciate it! If you have any issues editing the google doc, please your info to moonqbc@yahoo.com and we will add you to the list! Again, each family must have someone work the concession stand for 1 entire game. This duty does not have to be fulfilled in the same game you can work half of one game and half of another game. You can sign up now for your concession stand duty at the following location: Concession duty sign up link We have 2 home games in a row... this means we need everyone to be on top of their sign ups! Seniors families have already starting signing up for their food donations this week. Junior families look for your sign up this weekend! Waiting until the last minute makes it hard for everyone involved in the concession stand so we appreciate it! Again, all games are not available to sign up yet. Based on leftover items from the game prior, the sign up list may change from week to week. Please check for sign ups the weekend before your assigned game!! Sep 7: 12 th grade football families Sep 14: 11 th grade football families Sep 28: 10 th grade football families Oct 19: 9 th grade football families Oct 26: All cheer and football To sign up for food donations, please go to Username: Ganni Password: 1972
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES To volunteer for any of these opportunities, please Sign up for something with one of your friends! All opportunities will come with instructions and/or a to person shadow until you are fully educated on the position! WE NEED YOU! CAN YOU HELP? 50/50 RAFFLE: We still need 2 people for one side to man a table prior to the game and collect money and give out tickets for the 50/50 raffle. You would also need to walk through the crowd at the start of the second quarter. Concession Stand Manager: shopping, managing food sign ups and volunteer sign up, set up, clean up, organizing supplies Sponsors: We rely on our sponsors! You would need to solicit sponsorships, retrieve payment, and coordinate their ads and/or banners for the games. Program: The program needs to be put together and produced by the first game of the season. You will coordinate sponsors ads, shout outs, pictures, etc. You can either take on the design process or work with the printer to coordinate everything. End of year banquet: After the season, and usually after the holidays, a formal banquet is organized for players, cheerleaders and families. Duties include: Coordination with the hotel, invites, programs. PLEASE consider volunterring! We are able to provide our kids with such a great experience, but we can only continue if we get help!
FOOTBALL LIAISONS Did you know each grade has a football parent liaison? This person coordinates communication between the QBC and the families. They organize donations for the Cash Bash and the Golf Outing. They solicit volunteers. They are a great source of information should you ever have any questions! See liaisons below: 9 th : Shirl Hoak phillipssunshine@yahoo.com 10 th : Tammy Panucci dtab1034@comcast.net 11 th : Holly Jadlocki hollyjad@hotmail.com 12 th : Kirsten Brennan kirstenbrennan@outlook.com SNAP! FUNDRAISER There are only 10 days left for our Snap Fundraiser. Did you share on Facebook or Twitter? Did you your friends and family? As of Sunday morning we raised $5640 or our $7,500 goal! Keep sharing! What exactly is a Snap Fundraiser? Fundraiser participants and supporters utilize an online donation platform to send out donation requests via , social media, and SMS. Snap! Raise s streamlined interface and integration with social media connects our program to a larger participating audience, and their user-friendly online portal makes it easy to process donations and track the progress of each campaign. Snap! Raise also sends s to prospective supporters throughout the campaign to initiate additional interest. Most importantly, with Snap! Raise, supporters have the freedom to securely pay for donations with their credit or debit cards. JV GAME Please note: JV GAME FOR SATURDAY HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM 10AM TO 9AM. Plan accordingly! 5 WPIAL ALIGNMENT With all of the changes to the organization of football in recent years, we wanted to review the current structure for the WPIAL. At the beginning of the year, the WPIAL announced the new section alignment for the next 2 years. There are 6 classes. Number of conferences vary in each class. Moon Area Football is currenly in Class 5A, Conference 1. CLASS 5A (24 teams) Conference 1: Baldwin, Bethel Park, Chartiers Valley, Moon, Peters Township, Upper St. Clair, West Allegheny, Woodland Hills. Conference 2: Albert Gallatin, Connellsville, Franklin Regional, Gateway, Latrobe, McKeesport, Penn-Trafford, Plum. Conference 3: Armstrong, Fox Chapel, Hampton, Kiski Area, Mars, North Hills, Penn Hills, Shaler. How will playoffs work for Class 5A? The realignment cycle added 6 teams to the 5A ranks, which resulted in 3 conferences with 8 teams in each. For this season, 16 teams will make the playoffs. This means the top 5 from each conference will automatically qualify for the postseason along with one sixth place team based on the Wild Card formula. Unfortunately, the downside of the increased number of teams is that the WPIAL 5A Championship will be played at Norwin High School rather than at Heinz Field. The championship game is scheduled for Nov. 23 at 7pm. 5A CONFERENCE 1 RANKINGS (conference record only) 1. USC (1-0) 2. Bethel Park (1-0) 3. West Allegheny (1-0) 4. Baldwin (0-0) 5. Moon Area (0-0) 6. Chartiers Valley (0-1) 7. Peters Twp (o-1) 8. Woodland Hills (0-1)
OTHER CLASS ALIGNMENTS CLASS 6A (9 teams) Conference 1: Butler, Canon-McMillan, Central Catholic, Hempfield, Mt. Lebanon, Norwin, North Allegheny, Pine-Richland, Seneca Valley. CLASS 4A (16 teams) Conference 1: Ambridge, Beaver, Blackhawk, Highlands, Knoch, Montour, New Castle, South Fayette. Conference 2: Belle Vernon, Greensburg Salem, Indiana, Laurel Highlands, Ringgold, Thomas Jefferson, Trinity, West Mifflin. CLASS 3A (17 teams) Conference 1: Aliquippa, Beaver Falls, Central Valley, Hopewell, Keystone Oaks, Quaker Valley, South Park, Waynesburg. Conference 2: Burrell, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic, Deer Lakes, Derry, Elizabeth Forward, Freeport, Mount Pleasant, Uniontown, Yough. CLASS 2A (31 teams) Conference 1: Apollo-Ridge, Avonworth, East Allegheny, Shady Side Academy, Steel Valley, Summit Academy, Valley. Conference 2: Ellwood City, Freedom, Mohawk, Neshannock, New Brighton, Riverside, Shenango, Western Beaver. Conference 3: Beth-Center, Brownsville, Carmichaels, Charleroi, Frazier, McGuffey, Southmoreland, Washington. Conference 4: Brentwood, Burgettstown, Carlynton, Fort Cherry, Serra, Seton LaSalle, South Allegheny, South Side Beaver. CLASS 1A (23 teams) Conference 1: Clairton, Greensburg Central Catholic, Imani Christian, Jeannette, Leechburg, Riverview, Springdale. Conference 2: Avella, Bentworth, California, Chartiers-Houston, Jefferson-Morgan, Mapletown, Monessen, West Greene. Conference 3: Bishop Canevin, Cornell, Laurel, Northgate, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Rochester, Sto-Rox, Union.
