It was a very hot day and the boys played four games of hockey in five hours. They lost the first game to Orange, but didn t let it get them down. They won the next three games against teams from Lithgow, Parkes and Dubbo. The final result was the Bathurst team coming second in the competition. Congratulations boys on staying out there in tough conditions and giving it your all. 3 From the Chaplain Rev. Tony Card You will always have the poor with you, but you won t always have me. (John 12:8, CEV). Jesus is speaking at a dinner held just six days before his death. He is at the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus and Mary has just poured a bottle of very expensive perfume over his feet. It was an act of pure devotion for her Lord. Judas Iscariot has protested, saying that the perfume, worth almost a years wages for a labourer, should have been sold and the money given to the poor. Jesus comments are somewhat surprising. Elsewhere in the Gospels he directs his follows to care for the poor, to ensure that they have the resources that they need. Here we find him sanctioning extravagance, seemingly at the expense of the poor. We may question where he is coming from and what he wants us to do. It is important to note that Jesus isn t asking us to forget about the poor. In examining the account of his life we know that his main focus was on the poor. This single statement cannot undo all of his teaching. Instead, Jesus is teaching us about extravagant giving in honour of him. It raises the question for us how extravagant are we in honouring Jesus? Do we go to 10 YEARS CRICKET It was an exciting final game for the season against Oxford on Saturday for the ASC 10 Years cricket team. ASC batted first and benefitted from some big hitting by Patrick Walker in the first part of the innings. Some great communication, teamwork and running between the wickets was shown by Angus Rendall, Hugo Goodlet and Jonno Gardiner to help the team finish with a respectable 100 runs. Wickets were few and far between in the second innings, but the fielding from ASC really helped contain the scoring opportunities for a strong Oxford team. Patrick Walker was best bowler on the day, managing 4 wickets in total. Jonno showed some handy skills as wicket keeper and captain for the day, earning himself Player of the Week for his valuable contribution to the team. While there was no win this week, the team really showed how they have each developed their cricketing skills this season and should be very proud of the way they have represented their school each week. Mrs Nicholls 11 YEARS CRICKET The last Saturday of the cricket season provided the boys with a rather large challenge a team of boys nearly twice the size of our players! After the initial shock our players received when confronted by the opposition, our players managed to apply themselves well to the task at hand and bowled well to restrict the Rugby Union team to 127 runs off their allotted 20 overs. In reply our boys batted tenaciously against a fiery onslaught of fast (and sometimes dangerous) bowling. Sam Rendall deserves special mention as he took a fierce body blow from a fast beamer and after spending time on the sidelines recovering he returned to the crease and ensured that our team was not dismissed within the 20 overs. Well done on a brave effort Sam. The ASC boys managed to score 75 for the innings and despite losing, they put in very creditable performance. Congratulations to Izac Chirgwin for his Player of the Match performance in taking a wicket and batting well in difficult conditions. Mr Cant church to keep in the good books or do we give Jesus our all? Do we honour him by giving generously to the poor and to those who seek to help them or do we throw a token their way? Do we put our faith and worship first or is it something that we do only if we have nothing else better to do? Jesus gave himself as the most extravagant gift that we could imagine. Through his death and resurrection we have gained eternal life. Shouldn t we honour him with the same extravagance that Mary showed? God bless you, Rev. Tony Card. Thought for the week: Jesus said, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first and most important commandment. (Matthew 22:37-38, CEV) CIS Cricket Trials On Monday four ASC boys travelled to Trinity Grammar in Sydney to try out for the CIS cricket team. The boys, Kian Blackshaw, Izac Chirgwin, Ben Cant and Jock Sutton, performed extremely well on the day and were certainly up to the high standard set by the other 120 boys. At the conclusion of the day the boys missed out on selection in the team, but should feel proud of the way they performed and the fact that they were able to trial for this high level of representation. Mr Cant Mitchell Cricket Council Under 12 Champion Team Izac Chrigwin is to be congratulated on his excellent performance in the final of the Mitchell Cricket Council Under 12 cricket final on Sunday. The Bathurst representative side played against Orange at the Bathurst Sportsground and the local boys were successful in defeating Orange in a closely fought contest. Izac bowled extremely well and took two key wickets with his accurate outswing bowling. Congratulations go to Izac for a fantastic end to an excellent season. Mr Cant Cricket Presentation The End of Season Cricket Presentation will take place this Saturday, 16 March on the Junior School Oval. The morning will begin at 9:00 am with a friendly match between the boys and their parents. This will be followed by a presentation to all of the players and coaches. Players should wear their normal cricketing attire. The morning should conclude around 10:30 am. Infants children involved in In2cricket will also be having their presentation after their regular activities on Watson Oval. Mr Cant Kids looking to have some fun over the holidays? Lots of fun, laughs and great coaching! Bathurst Tennis Centre Autumn Holiday Clinic First week of school holidays Monday 15 to Thursday 18 April 9am 1pm each day Ages 5-15 years Phone or From the REGISTRAR Mr Michael Hissey It has as usual been a very busy few weeks in the office of the Registrar. The annual ACER scholarship examinations were held on Saturday 23 February and a record number of students sat for the various levels of scholarships available. Guided tours of the College and interviews of interested families have continued on a daily basis and last weekend was spent at the annual Independent Schools Expo held in the gothic magnificence of the McLauren Hall at Sydney University. With the charming sounds of the carillon bells echoing across the quadrangle in the background, many interested families stopped by for a chat and information. Please mark in your diary the following events which are coming up: Tuesday 26 March at 7.00pm Dr Miller will be hosting An Evening with All Saints at the lovely Cowra Japanese Gardens. An open invitation is extended to our Cowra District families and friends to spend some time with the Head of College in a delightful setting. 5 Evans Crown Equestrian Event Eight girls from the All Saints College equestrian team represented the school at the Evans Crown Horse Sports Day held at Lithgow Pony Club on Monday, 11th March Teagan Miller, Year 8, acted as team captain and led the Junior School students well. Teagan demonstrated very good leadership by encouraging the younger students and leading by example. All girls rode beautifully and represented their school like champions. There were many ribbons won. Perhaps most notably was Megan Redpath who won the overall point score as well as being selected by the judges for the Citizenship Award in her age group The Citizenship Award is given to the rider who shows great sportsmanship, manners and enthusiasm for the day. The highlight of the day was the girls performance in the grand parade where they rode out as a team in pairs carrying the All Saints College banner. They looked amazing and held the formation like true professionals. Well done to all the team members - Teagan Miller, Jakiya Whitfeld, Isabel Hamer, Claudia Cunningham, Indiana Whitfeld, Sara Reynolds, Megan Redpath and Millicent Cupples. They were great ambassadors for our school. Mark Whitfeld Millicent Cupples at Vaulting Competition
