Durham Shield (Under 19) The season s fortunes were paved in the first game with everything going right except the result. Hawkesbury hit but the weather came over with the opposition 1-2. This all came after the groundsman had been watering the pitch when we arrived. He hadn t been told there was a game on. Going into the second match, there was an air of confidence amonst the side, who believed they were capable of doing well in the competition. After bowling Northern Districts out for 189, Hawkesbury believed they would achieve the win. A bit of bad luck and too much flambouyance saw reality bite as confidence was overcome by the result. The third game pitted Hawkesbury against Fairfield-Liverpool at Don Dawson. Hawkesbury lost the toss and was sent out to field. The opposition was kept to a modest 145. This brought back team confidence and, with the result of the previous match in their mind, the batsmen took a more cautious approach. With Alex Bartley being the rock, the win was achieved four down. On Hawkesbury s return to Turnbull Oval, we were to face the eventual premiers Parramatta. After we slumped to 6-74, Evan Frost, with the help of the remaining bats, built the total to a respectable 167, giving the home side something to bowl at. With victory necessary to progress to the semifinals, Hawkesbury did well to keep Parramatta at bay, but they proved too strong, coasting to victory with just three wickets down. In the last round, Nepean 2 batted and were dismissed for 155. Hawkesbury had an achievable target for victory. After losing early wickets, Hawkesbury fell short of their run chase by 57. Commendable performances in difficult circumstances were were recorded by: Adam Carver 4-19 v Northern Districts Alex Bartley 62 not out v Fairfield-Liverpool Evan Frost 64 v Parramatta I thank Peter Harris for the help he provided at the beginning of the competition, Sharon Lawrence for scoring each of the matches, and Garry Drury for his assistance with barbecues at the beginning of the season. 15 Weblin Shield (Under 15) TEAM Bowen Gibbons (Captain), Jason Airey, Aaron Bayne, Clinton Carver, Anton Clasquin, Ben England, James Foster, Kasim Khan, Raza Khan, Jamie McDonald, Brian Murphy, David Wilcox Game 1 Hawkesbury beat Hornsby-Kuring-gai and Hills 169 After outstanding performances in both the trials, the Hawkesbury men were quietly confident about the day s play. Hornsby won the toss and chose to bat first. Hornsby got off to a good start at 2-50, before the Hawkesbury bowlers switched on and took three quick wickets to have the away team at The pressure of losing quick wickets took its toll on Hornsby which resulted with them being bowled out for 169. Wicket-takers for Hawkesbury were Jamie McDonald, Bowen Gibbons, Kasim Khan and Anton Clasquin with two wickets each. Hawkesbury started the innings with a small hiccup with the loss of an early wicket. From then on, it was all go as the Hawks blasted their way to their first win of the season reaching the total in the 38th over, with two partnerships of 60 runs and the loss of only three wickets. Honours with the bat went to Ben England (69), Aaron Bayne (56*) and Anton Clasquin (34). Game 2 Parramatta 263 beat Hawkesbury 85 and 9-64 Hawkesbury lost the toss and were given the new ball. It was a slow start for the Hawks, with the opposition cruising at after 47 overs. With the reality setting in that a run chase of more than 300 was a big possibility, the Hawkesbury boys pulled their socks up, along with their heads and claimed the next seven wickets for 53 runs, keeping Parramatta to 263 off 57 overs. An outstanding bowling effort by Jason Airey, with his first district five-wicket haul gave the Hawks momentum going into bat. However, that momentum only lasted for the 10 minute change over, with the Hawks consistently losing quick wickets to be bowled out for 85 after 25 overs. Ben England put up the only resistance against a very talented spin bowling attack by Parramatta, scoring a hard earned 40 runs from 23 overs. Parramatta took advantage of a disappointed Hawkesbury outfit and wanted the outright. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the second innings was even worse than the first, with quick wickets falling at regular intervals and the Hawks slumped to 9-64 before mother nature saved Hawkesbury from being beaten outright. Game 3 Hawkesbury drew with Gordon 2-26 Due to a week of rain, the game was transferred from Park to Kemsley Downs. The Hawks won the toss and batted first. Hawkesbury got off to a slow start, being 3-34 off 20 overs before Ben England combined with Raza Khan to revive the Hawkesbury innings, adding a handy 65 runs to the score before Ben departed on 56. The Hawks lost two more quick wickets to be from 50 overs. Raza then stepped up to the plate, along with David Wilcox, to take apart the Gordon bowling attack. The two of them added a much needed 60 run partnership in seven overs, with Raza smashing two towering sixes off the opening bowlers to score his highest score in district competition of 92 not out. Hawkesbury finished with 190 from their 60 overs. 15

The Hawkesbury bowlers knew they had to fire up from the start, and it showed with the Hawks picking up two quick wickets before the rain stopped the game. Game 4 bye Game 5 Hawkesbury 134 beat Northern Districts 75 and Hawkesbury lost the toss and bowled first. Hawkesbury were determined to finish the season with a win and were on their way when they had the opposition 5-19 from 15 overs. Northern Districts tried their best to decrease the flow of wickets but the Hawks attack was too strong, bowling Northern Districts out for 75 in the 30th over. Honours with the ball went to Clinton Carver 3-12 off six overs, Joshua Airey 2-7 off five and K.Khan 2-25 off five. Hawkesbury got off to a slow start before losing their first wicket on 27 after the 19th over. After losing two more quick wickets, Raza Khan and Ben England added an extra 30 runs before Raza was dismissed on 11. Ben combined with Bowen Gibbons to steady the ship and achieve first innings points by putting on a quick 55 run partnership before the Hawks were dismissed for 136. Honours with the bat went to Ben England with 70. With plenty of time remaining, the Hawks went for outright points. However, Northern Districts denied Hawkesbury the chance and batted out the rest of the day to finish Jamie McDonald, Clinton Carver, Bowen Gibbons, Kasim Khan and David Wilcox all picked up a wicket. Finally, I would like to thank the players and the parents for their support during this season as it has made this position much more enjoyable for me and the players involved. I would also like to thank Sushila England for her managerial services towards the team as it allowed me to focus more on the team s activities. Yours in cricket, Daniel Woods Coach 16

Moore Shield (Under 14) TEAM Jay Dyball (c), Rhys Alchin, Braydon Greentree, Russell Hitchcock, Gary Holland, Mitchell James, Matthew Jones, Mitchell Langham, Tim Macefield, Frank Maric, Chris Rankin, Daniel West The results from this seasons games do not really reflect the intensity and the willingness to play cricket for Hawkesbury. The boys should hold their heads high and eagerly wait for the coming season as the boys are growing mentally and physically for the competitions ahead at a district level. This year showed a few glimpses of things to come with some excellent bowling and some very mature batting. But we must not forget about the fielding. Sometimes there were small lapses of concentration, but 98% of the time, the extremely high level of concentration resulted in some extraordinary saves and catches. The one thing guaranteed with this side is the continual mutter of praise and encouragement the boys give to each other. The coming years are going to be big years for all the boys, with the transition from playing on a synthetic wicket every week, to playing on turf, and it is becoming a time for many of these boys to put their hand up and represent Hawkesbury at a grade level, as some are already doing. I would like to congratulate the boys for who they are, not just for cricket but the young men they are and who they are becoming to be. I am honoured to be associated with all the boys. I would like to thank all the parents and families that have supported the side this year, and to all the sponsors that have supported us and Hawkesbury cricket. Without you guys, there is no cricket side. Round 1 v Fairfield-Liverpool at Bounty Won by Fairfield-Liverpool Having played Fairfield-Liverpool in the previous weeks in a trial game and also knowing many of the boys from previous years, we went into this game very confident and in high spirits. Having won the toss and electing to bat, we were in a good position at 1-31 after 14 overs but then it was a bit of a collapse. The next nine wickets fell for 60 runs in 22 overs. Unfortunately, many of the wickets fell to bad choice in shot selection rather then Fairfield-Liverpool getting us out. With only three scores over 10, our bowling had to be tight and controlled. And it was. We were off to a great start having 2 for 1 after the second over with some quick bowling from Jay Dyball and excellent swing bowling from Tim Macefield. But with only 91 to defend, the runs were made easily by Fairfield-Liverpool in the 25th over. The highlight for Hawkesbury was the debut of Gary Holland who got 2 for 10 in his first match. Man of the Match: Gary Holland. Round 2 v Manly-Warringah at Killarney Heights Won by Manly-Warringah The boys came to this game with many things to prove and with a completely different attitude. With a disastrous start, losing Braydon Greentree in a run out and Jay misjudging one that went on to bowl him, we looked to be in early trouble, but Mitchell Langham (61) and Rhys Alchin (22) put on an excellent middle order partnership. Towards the end of our innings, Frank Maric made a very mature 26 playing with a superbly straight bat and as if he had been playing representative cricket for years, but this was only Frank s second representative match. Unfortunately, we were bowled out for 179 in the 55 th over. 19

Manly took well to our quicker bowling early, but the ground we were playing on made it hard for our bowlers on a longer run up. Our spinners did well with some excellent bowling from Daniel West who bagged 2 for 29 from 8 overs and Mitchell James who also bowled well to get 1 for 25 from 12 overs. We unfortunately lost on run rate as a massive storm took the chance for us to bowl well and finish on top. Man of the Match: Frank Maric. Round 3 v Newcastle at Bounty Washed out Round 4 v Georges River-Penshurst-St George at Olds Park Won by Georges River Having won the toss again at this picturesque ground, we decided to bat. The outfield was slow and a good score of anything over 150 would have won the game. We were 8 for 130 after 60 overs with Rhys Alchin on a mature 34, backed up by Chris Rankin on 11. Their bowling and the slow outfield made scoring runs difficult. Our bowling and fielding was at its very finest on this day with Braydon Greentree taking 5 for 36 from twelve overs and Mitchell James backed up his two excellent catches with 2 for 22 from 11. We were unlucky to go down as they passed our score with eight wickets down in the 53rd over. Man of the Match: Braydon Greentree Round 5 v Blacktown at Bounty Won by Hawkesbury This was a great day and enjoyed by all. Although it was our first and only win, we felt like we played this well all season. Jay Dyball (74), Mitchell James (67), and Braydon Greentree (36) all did well with the bat, bashing them all over the ground, displaying batting ability beyond their years and it was finished off well with Russell Hitchcock smashing a huge six to put the final nail in their coffin. There is only one way to describe our bowling: brutal. It was intimidating and quick and there was also a perfect wrong un. The pure size of Matthew Jones and Jay Dyball is enough to make many batsman know that when they are running in they mean business and that is what they meant. Matt finished with 1 for 7 off five overs and Jay finished with 4 for 11 off eight. There was also some screaming catches from Gary and Russell that made our day go by even more comfortably. They were all bowled out in the 31st over for 82. Man of the Match: Jay Dyball Jared Larnach Coach 20

Gee Shield (Under 13) TEAM: Edan De Mattia, Chris Haddad, Drew Hile, Matthew Kingston, Tom Lang, Josh McLean, Matthew McMahon, Kieran Meurant, Sam Mullens, Glen Napier, Lonny Nourse, Brett Sproule Unfortunately, we did not win any of our five inter-district games this season. We were beaten by some very strong teams in our pool but were competitive in most games. Game 1 v Sutherland After losing the toss and having to bowl, we had Sutherland 4-27 after 17 overs and looking good to dismiss them for a small total on a large field. From this point on though, Sutherland s fifth wicket partnership dug in and then launched a counter attack to end their 60 overs at 4 for 250. One batsman was 106 not out and the other 98 not out. We were always going to have difficulty chasing this total and lost early wickets against a steady bowling attack and some good catching. Sam Mullens dug in for 37 runs along with Lonny Nourse (51 runs), Kieran Meurant 21 and Drew Hile 19 put up resistance and we finished at from our 60 overs. Game 2 v Gordon Gordon won the toss and batted and with their first four batsmen making 50 plus runs each put the game beyond doubt with (60 overs). When rain ended the game after 52 overs of Hawkesbury s innings, we were Josh McLean batted well for 28 runs, but we were unable to score quickly enough to be in the game. Sam Mullens 26 not out and Glen Napier 29 also tried but Gordon was well deserving winners. Game 3 v Manly-Warringah Manly won the toss and elected to field on an overcast day following rain over the previous few days. Hawkesbury were in trouble early and scored slowly on the heavy field. Wickets fell regularly and runs were slow and Hawkesbury was dismissed for 70 runs in 42 overs. From the start of Manly s innings the match deteriorated with the weather and some dubious decisions allowed Manly to achieve the runs in 28 overs. Game 4 v Bankstown We won the toss and batted on a very slow field. Runs were hard to come by against a good tight bowling attack and enthusiastic fielding. Chris Haddad (28), Sam Mullens (20) and Glen Napier (14) batted well. In the last few overs Drew Hile (15 not out) made the Bankstown boys chase and be on their toes with quick running between wickets. Hawkesbury finished at (60 overs). Bankstown batted well and although our bowlers bowled tightly and fielded well, we couldn t restrict them and they passed the total after 49 overs (3-109). 23

Game 5 v ACT ACT batted and were restricted to 176 runs on Woodlands Oval. Some aggressive fielding and good bowling by the Hawkesbury boys didn t allow the batsmen to get away and this total was about 60 to 70 short of what should be expected on Woodlands. Unfortunately, as in other games, Hawkesbury didn t play to their potential and incorrect and rushed shot selection cost batsmen their wickets and disappointingly we were all out for 90 off only 37 overs. This ended a disappointing season and a season where the boys could not all perform on the one day in any of the five games. Even though we didn t play to our potential, the boys hopefully learnt and developed their skills and understanding of the game of cricket. There is a load of potential in this team and the players, and I urge them to work on their skills so next season may be more successful in results. I take this opportunity to thank the parents for their support and organisation of afternoon teas. Also a big thank you to Paul Mullens (Manager) for all his organisation and assistance with the team. Thank to our team sponsors, Entertainment Distributors Company and M & K Napier Constructions for their continued support of the team financially. It has been a pleasure to coach the majority of these boys over the past four seasons from U10s to U13s. Unfortunately, due to business commitments I will be unable to apply to coach the team next season but wish each of them well and will watch their development with interest. Thank you to Hawkesbury District Cricket Association (Juniors) Committee for the confidence you have shown in appointing me over the past four years. Stephen Hile Coach 24

Cawsey Shield (Under 12) Semi-Finalists TEAM: Brett Jones (Capt), Scott Heaney (Capt), Joshua Airey, James Dwyer, Matt Gooley, David Klineberg, Asher Larnach, Ben Leyshon, Dale McKay, Luke Power, Christopher Smith, Joel Tynan Round 1: Hawkesbury v Canterbury-Wests at South Maroota Hawkesbury won the toss and elected to bat taking up the challenge with vengeance. A good start to the innings by David Klineberg 29 and Matt Gooley 34 set the scene for Brett Jones to score an outstanding 102 not out. Canterbury-Wests had no answers to the Hawkesbury batting and chased leather all morning until the innings finished at after 50 overs. Canterbury-Wests lost a wicket in the first over of their innings and continually lost wickets trying to match Hawkesbury s run rate. The boys bowled well sharing the wickets with Scott Heaney 2-28 off four overs, James Dwyer 1-11 off four, Ben Leyshon 2-9 off four, David Klineberg 1-10 off four, Chris Smith 2-15 off three and Josh Airey 2-8 off three. Canterbury-Wests finished all out 126 a great win to the Hawks for the 1st round. Round 2: Hawkesbury v Bankstown at Smith Oval Hawkesbury started well in their innings with some good sensible batting against a tight bowling attack by Bankstown. Hawkesbury finished up at after 50 overs with good knocks by David Klineberg 23, Brett Jones 34 and Scott Heaney 47, a good effort considering the slow large ground. Bankstown s turn to bat saw wickets fall at regular intervals with some great bowling and fielding by the Hawkes. At 7-108, Hawkesbury were right on top when a massive thunderstorm hit the ground causing delay in play. Play was about to resume when another storm even wetter that the first stopped play again. Play resumed, giving Hawkesbury just three overs to bowl Bankstown out, a tall order but the boys just thrived in the pressure they found themselves in. A good spell of bowling by Scott Heaney 3-9 off five overs, Joel Tynan 2-8 off 4, Asher Larnach 1-8 off 4 and Josh Airey 3-13 off 3 saw Bankstown after 36 overs. Hawkesbury were on top all day with their batting and bowling but due to a shorten match the result was decided on runs scored per over faced and this left Hawkesbury at 3.16 runs per over and Bankstown at An unbelievably disappointing result after the boys played so well. Even the Bankstown coach and manager apologised for the result. Round 3: bye Round 4: Hawkesbury v Sutherland at South Maroota We elected to bat after winning the toss but didn t get off to a great start. At 3-80 things were looking better with Scott Heaney making a well earned 56 but at the fall of the tenth wicket we could only manage 111. An early lunch was had and the boys knew they had to bowl well to stay in the game. 27

What a start! Sutherland were 2-2 after James Dwyer s first over. Wickets fell constantly until the 31st over as they were The Hawks bowled well and tight but couldn t remove those last few wickets. At the 47th over Sutherland were 7-104, needing 7 off three overs to win. Feelings were tense among spectators and parents but the 12 s kept their cool and bowled Sutherland all out for 109. What a great bowling and fielding effort by the boys, an excellent team effort. Great bowling by James Dwyer 2-14 off eight overs, Asher Larnach 1-12 off 8, Josh Airey 4-7 off 10 and Matt Gooley 1-5 off 3. Round 5: Hawkesbury v Hornsby-Kuring-gai and Hills Hornsby won the toss and sent the Hawkesbury into bat. We never really got on top of the bowling with Hornsby bowling tight and fielding extremely well. Matt Gooley top scored with 23 valuable runs and the Hawks finished up at 107 all out. Just like the previous game the Hawks knew what had to be done and proceeded. What an excellent spell of bowling by the boys and just as good fielding. Hornsby all out for 95, another close finish but the boys seemed to enjoy and thrive on the pressure. Great spell of bowling by James Dwyer 1-15, Joel Tynan 1-12, Josh Airey 3-15, Asher Larnach 1-12, Dale McKay 2-20, David Klineberg Semi-Final: Hawkesbury v South-Eastern at Booralee South Eastern won the toss and elected to bat. The Hawks started well with two wickets in Ben Leyshon s first over. The boys bowled and fielded extremely well with James Dwyer 2-27, Ben Leyshon 2-15, Scott Heaney 1-15, Josh Airey 1-23, Asher Larnach 1-15 and Dale McKay South-Eastern were after 50 overs, a great effort by the boys to restrict them to this total. Our innings didn t start well losing three early wickets. Scott Heaney hitting a strong 38 and Ben Leyshon 21 improved our score but wickets kept falling. Matt Gooley and Dale McKay added a handy 29-run partnership to get our score to 7-99 but the Hawks were bowled out for 107. A close, but not close enough, result for the boys but full credit must be paid to them for the way they played the game. The season saw an outstanding effort by the Under 12 s to make the semi-final play off. Every one of the players fulfilled his role as part of a united team whether being batting, bowling or fielding. It is very pleasing to see this team grow and improve with each season and behind all twelve players are twelve sets of great parents, encouraging and guiding the boys all through out this rep season. Finally no team runs smoothly without a good manager, Tina Heaney, and special thanks to our scorers, Jim Gooley and Hugh McKay. Thank you for a great season boys. I have enjoyed every moment being part of this talented squad. Steve Jones Coach 28

Creak Shield (Under 11) TEAM: Brandon Hasick (c), Luke Abell, Mitchell Carpini, Chad Davis, Thomas Decent, Sam Green, Patrick Lawrence, Blake Smith, Troy Thompson, Toby Williams, Mikhail Wilson, Timothy Wilson The Hawkesbury Jack Creak Shield team went within a whisker of reaching the semi-finals after the team had been so successful in the Foster Shield in Only one controversial wicket separated the team from a semi-final position in a frantic fifth round match, and while the opportunity to protest probably existed, a team that loses two of its five matches really shouldn t be claiming such a right. Initial selections were undertaken at Deerubbun, with the team farewelling Lachlan Bruhm (age ineligible) and Ty Ogden. Both are wished all the best for the future. Their replacements, Chad Davis and Mikhail Wilson, fitted in well during our pre-season training routine at Breakaway, although this was curtailed from the previous season. The idea of a pre-season squad was shelved in favour of an earlier selection and working with the final team. Significantly, the enthusiasm and eagerness remained, and this important part of our program quickly showed that the development between 10s and 11s is marked by increased power and strength in all facets. The two trial games, which we had bumbled through the year before, again showed a need for more skill development. Fairfield outplayed us to win narrowly at McMahon, and Central Coast skittled us for 92 after an enforced move from the original marquee-covered ground next to our Gee Shield team. An opportunity for the boys to watch an older and more experienced team in action was therefore lost, but Central Coast made just 41 in 32 overs when it came to their turn. As things were to pan out, both our trial opponents reached the Creak semi-finals. Round 1 v Canterbury-Wests Sent in, Hawkesbury was only 1-21 after the first eighteen overs against a determined opposition when the button had to be pressed. From 2-50 at the half-way mark, Luke Abell (67) and Brandon Hasick (43) added 93 at nearly five an over, before a whirlwind finish in which 45 runs were added in the last five overs. The innings total of was a great result, considering the pressure that had been on the early batsmen. Chad Davis, in his first district match, faced only 19 balls in smashing 20 not out. In the field, Hawkesbury excelled, performing the nearly impossible by taking twenty wickets straight. Tiredness and fatigue is always a factor in chasing an outright. Fortunately for Hawkesbury, Canterbury-Wests buckled twice. Employing the age-old successful formula of a quick at one end and a slow at the other (most young bats don t play both well) Brandon Hasick then Toby Williams combined with Mitchell Carpini to rip through the first innings before tea, Canterbury-Wests making only 58. After tea, Sam Green stood up as spinner in no uncertain terms. He had five wickets in his first four overs, finishing with 6-34 and seeing Canterbury-Wests out for 68 with more than five overs left. Brandon Hasick s direct hit took the last wicket, and put us sole on top after just one round. 31

Round 2 v Manly-Warringah On a hot, blustery day, opening batsman Luke Abell made the highest score in the 15-year history of the Creak Shield when he smashed 154 not out against Manly-Warringah. His innings broke the previous record of 130 not out, obtained by a Penrith player in the season. Luke dominated the bowling from the beginning, punishing the luckless Manly attack. He was particularly severe on anything short, and he got plenty of that, hitting 21 fours in his 187-minute innings. His efforts allowed Hawkesbury to reach a mammoth Sam Green smashed 51 in only 43 minutes, hitting nine fours. It was a super knock. Tim Wilson, who made 34, was associated in a whirlwind 105-run partnership in only 54 minutes with Luke for the fifth wicket after Hawkesbury had slumped briefly to When Manly batted, they made 9-185, sixty more than had ever been scored against this team over two seasons, with opening bowler Patrick Lawrence cutting through the middle-order to take 4-9 from seven overs. Troy Thompson took 2-7 from five overs late in the innings. They were the only two bowlers, on either side, to handle the difficult weather and ground conditions: (temperature) hot, (wind) strong, (humidity) low, (outfield) fast, (ground) bumpy and hard. You know big runs are going to be scored when it s hot, strong, low, fast, bumpy and hard! On the other hand, you also know bowlers will do well when it s cool, calm, high, slow and lush! Round 3 v Central Coast Following the euphoria of the previous match and a confirmation of No.1 ladder position, the team came back to earth with a thud, experiencing defeat at the hands of Central Coast at McMahon Park. A parent working bee that commenced at 7 a.m. armed with brooms and a blow-dryer, got the ground ready after several days of rain, when it appeared that surface water and the McMahon Park committee might make play impossible. Hawkesbury, sent in to bat in wet conditions, made only 74. All batsmen found difficulty with the low skidding ball. Luke Abell, the previous week s hero with a huge score, managed just 17 before he misread a ball from the spinner, and was stumped. Reaching at one stage 1-41, the Hawks crashed badly, losing The final score was within hail of the 92 made against the same side in the trial, to which they had replied with just 41, but this day the boys from the coast were made of sterner stuff. When Central Coast batted, they were soon in trouble, later 3-38 at lunch, but they recovered after the break. Mitchell Carpini took 4-14 from ten overs. He had the batsmen in trouble frequently. Central Coast was bowled out for 122, but the competition lead was lost. Round 4 v South-Eastern Past Hawkesbury teams have complained of various shonks when playing this lot. We got done too. Hawkesbury suffered its second defeat in a row when it went down to South-Eastern. The Hawkesbury innings was interrupted for 35 minutes after six overs had been bowled at Rowland Park. The ground had not been correctly booked by South-Eastern and a senior match was due to be played on the ground. Proceedings were transferred to another ground. Luke Abell dominated the innings to hit 46 out of The rest of the batting was disappointing, after two early run outs sapped confidence between the wickets. The Hawkesbury bowling was disappointing, besides being down on its luck, and South-Eastern cruised home. Wicketkeeper Tom Decent contributed well for Hawkesbury, and impressed with a tidy display that allowed only one bye. 32

Round 5 v Northern Districts Hawkesbury secured a crushing victory over Northern Districts at McMahon Park but failed to secure the outright win needed to secure a semi-final berth. Just one wicket and seven runs lay between Hawkesbury and the semi-finals when the game ended. Hawkesbury 3-80 (declared) beat Northern Districts 46 and 9-41 with the visitors batting a different player in the 2nd innings. Northern Districts, sent in, were in trouble quickly. Blake Smith broke through early, taking two wickets in successive overs from the southern end. When Sam Green was introduced into the attack, he had an immediate effect. The off-spinner took 4-5 from 9.2 overs, to have the innings wrapped up in 42 overs in a little over two hours. Fellow spinner Mitchell Carpini took 2-7 from 10 overs. Hawkesbury sought quick runs, and made 3-80 in just 25 overs. Brandon Hasick hit 33, the highest score of the match. He hit two of the three fours scored on the slow outfield all day. Luke Abell made 20 not out to finish the season with 304 runs at an average of Northern Districts were 8-14 in the second innings with 18 overs remaining in the last hour, and miraculously saved the outright. We agonised over a couple of dropped catches, but an outright was not to be. Mitchell Carpini took 5-11 from 14 overs in the second innings. In the end, Hawkesbury made 3-80 from 25 overs against Northern Districts from 80 overs on the day. The Jack Creak Shield players were: BRANDON HASICK Our captain. This guy can play the game. He has an enthusiasm and feel for the game in the field that is well beyond his years. He was notably happier batting at McMahon this season. His running between the wickets still needs work. Brandon again provided the side with the fire of a genuine quick at number 4 in the bowling line-up, finishing with 7-55 off 33.1 overs, averaging just LUKE ABELL The accumulator. What a season! Luke made over 300 runs at an average over a hundred and broke the Creak Shield record score at 154 not out, although the Gordon captain made 150 not out and narrowly knocked him off for the Creak Shield batting award. Luke knuckled down, with a determination not seen previously and, relieved of the keeping responsibilities, had a ball fielding. MITCHELL CARPINI Spinner One. Mitchell won the award for the leading wicket-taker for the second year running. Backed by a group of energetic fast bowlers (few people realise cricket revolves around fast bowlers backing up good spinners) Mitchell claimed 14 wickets at an average of With conditions against Manly dreadful, he volunteered to take the tough end (and failed) but the ticker showed. Mitchell s batting was disappointing, considering his previous success, and too late it was realised he should be returned to the opening batting spot he had held so well. TIMOTHY WILSON The Aussie kid. Tim showed his passion for the game when denied an opportunity in the opening round. Asked the question, is it better for the team to win, or you to do well? Tim gave the right answer immediately. He missed out on a bat, but gave a great account of himself next time with 34 against Manly-Warringah in a century partnership. Tim was very much a big part of the team. THOMAS DECENT Pocket genius: some would say the brains behind the outfit. Thomas is a very special cricketer. As a wicketkeeper, he has magnificent hands and will, with experience, develop into a fine keeper. His value to the team, though, is even more enormous. In the field, constant enthusiasm. When we re batting, eager to keep the coach and manager informed of the score and situation at any time. 33
