1 RELOAD! Celebrating Our 26th Year October 2013 IMPORTANT CHANGES Please take note of the new Junior s Ammo Policy and the September 2014 date change below. NEW JUNIOR S AMMO POLICY Dean Anglace Starting with the Octobershutzenfest at Fairfield County Fish & Game Protective Association, Juniors are going to need to bring their own ammunition to each shoot (at least for now). We are all aware that times have changed with respect to gun ownership and ammunition possession. New York and Connecticut have led the way in these new restrictions and our normal operations got caught in the crossfire. We understand that these laws are still being worked on, but we must run our organization with the laws currently on the books. Starting October 1st in Connecticut, every transfer of ammunition must be accompanied by a background check. The same holds true as of January 1st in New York. These new laws create a vexing situation for continuing our tradition of giving Juniors ammunition on shoot day.

2 We feel that the cumbersome nature of the respective laws coupled with the severe penalties involved make it impossible to continue giving Juniors free ammunition. However, we wish to continue the tradition of providing Juniors with the opportunity to shoot as reasonably possible. Therefore, our compromise is that we will be providing a Dick's Gift Card in the amount of approximately four boxes of ammo to every Junior on the day of the shoot. The Traveler's Management realizes that this new policy shifts the burden of supplying your Junior, but we think this is the best way to continue our traditions and still comply with the law. SEPTEMBER 2014 DATE CHANGE The September 2014 shoot will be held on September 14th instead of September 21st. We changed the date to accommodate one of our partner clubs. The shoot will continue to be our Small Gauge Championship at Ten Mile River Preserve. SMALL GAUGE CHAMPIONSHIP Jeff Hunter Small Gauges in September? Yes, we made a small change to the schedule last year and decided to switch the Small Gauge Championship to Ten Mile River Preserve. Sunday, September 15th dawned a crisp morning for our shoot which eventually warmed to a very pleasant day. Considering Mid-County was holding the Empire Cup the same day, we were expecting a lower turnout. We were pleased that eighty Travelers and their guests chose to shoot the exclusive Ten Mile River Preserve course with us. We know that Tommy Comolli can set awesome 12 gauge targets, but could he find that special mix of challenge and distance yet still have everything hittable with a.410? Station seven was one of the first separator stations. A trap teal was launched from maybe 10 yards directly in front of the shooter. The bird went away from the shooter with a slight curl to the right. The report was a crossing target about 25 yards away and flying left to right. No big deal for a 12 gauge with a 1 1/8oz load of #7 1/2s, but quite a challenge for 1/2 oz of

3 number 8s. The vistas over station twelve were amazing. In fact, you could get mesmerized by the view and lose sight of the target! The first bird was a battaue that was quartering away from the shooter. If you waited until the battaue showed some face, it was a good 35 yards away. The small gunners had to decide if they were going to take it on edge or let it get out there and hope the #8s would do the job. With the.410, I decided I had a better chance on edge and my confidence overruled my ability. Stonehenge, or station 15, was a report pair of bunnies running downhill from left to right. The targets danced in between rock structures that brought them in and out of a shooting window. Those who like to shoot bunnies did pretty well. Those who don t, didn t. The TMRP chefs continue to provide us with world class fare. Our lunch was a full spread of gourmet dishes and great service. As many of you know, fellow Traveler Steve Thomsen s daughter passed away after a horrendous car accident. The Thomsen family established the Carly Thomsen Art Scholarship Fund in their daughter s memory to benefit a student in the Rocky Point School District. The Traveler s donated a flat of Remington STS ammunition and a custom embroidered Traveler s vest to be raffled off to raise money for the scholarship fund. We raised $1,000 through the raffle to donate to the scholarship fund. We thank all those who bought tickets and supported this worthy cause. Our thoughts were with Steve, Dolaina, and sister Paige on Sunday. At the end of Route 25 Expressway (5.2 miles) go right on Route 111 North (toward Monroe). Go 4.8 miles to left onto Wheeler Road. Go 1/4 miles to left onto Hammertown Road. Go 0.7 miles to the club driveway on the right. DIRECTIONS from I84: Take Exit 11 (Newtown). Turn right at the end of the exit. Go to traffic light (Route 34), turn right (toward New Haven). Continue on Route 34 (2.5 miles) to blinking light. Turn onto Gary s Plain Road. Go.5 miles, straight at the stop sign onto High Rock Road. Continue 1.9 miles under RR bridge and turn left onto Hammertown Road. Go.7 miles to club driveway on the left.
