1 RELOAD! Celebrating Our 27th Year December 2014 SALUTE THE COLORS Bill Beinert Key West may be warm and sunny, but it's 180 miles to the nearest sporting clays course, so I'm back in notso-sunny New York. Priorities are priorities. There was a nip in the air as we assembled, but the sun started to come out as we saluted the colors with the National Anthem. 109 shooters enjoyed the beautiful weather and some fun birds. Tommy Comolli and his staff at Ten Mile River ran an efficient shoot, though there were a few problems with some of the traps. My feeling is that most of the presentations were on the softer side, as evidenced by a high of 98 (John Carbone) and a median of 84. Two of the simos provided the most difficult targets of the day. Yours truly was first up on Station 14. The true pair had a bird coming from behind and to the left of the box, dropping about 20 yards out, while an incomer from the bushes out to the right quartered in low to about 15 yards out. I elected to take the incomer first, knowing I had a longer window for the other bird, even though it would be farther out. When I left the box with a 3, my squadmates saw the folly of my plan and took the outgoer early and managed to hit the incomer a few feet off the ground beating my score handily. Station 7 was the other tough simo. Both birds came from well to the left. One bird, from further back, was low and fast, the other higher and slower. Hard focus on the faster bird yielded better scores. Lunch was held at Dover Furnace due to the large turnout. I assume the food was up to standards, as I was unable to hang around for it. Thanks always to Dean and Danielle Anglace, the Travelers who did all the work to make this shoot a success. We would also like to thank Jim Muncey for giving

A note to all Travelers: I'll be writing most of the shoot reports from now on and I can't be at every station all the time. So if anyone has any comments or pictures they'd like to see included, please shoot me an within a day or two after the shoot so I can immortalize your (or a buddy's) outstanding (or amusing) performance: editor@ctsca.org. DECEMBER LOGISTICS Dean Anglace A little change every now and then is good. We visit Dover Furnace for the Mistletoe Mayhem & Christmas Party on Sunday, December 21st. Our Annual Christmas Party is an extravaganza of food, fellowship, and holiday cheer. Of course, there s shooting involved too! The festivities begin at 8:30 with breakfast at the Dover Furnace clubhouse. At approximately 9:45 we converge onto the course at Dover Furnace for 100 targets. Once shooting concludes, we retreat to the clubhouse for lunch, presentation of the Sporting Sportsman of the Year Award,
3 and a door-prize give away. Once again, we will be supporting the Toys for Tots program. Donations in the form of new, unwrapped toys or monetary donations will be appreciated. Our toy drives have made Christmas Morning magical for hundreds of children over the years. MEMBERSHIP UPDATE John Hachmann Your CTSCA membership renewal forms were sent out in early November. If you have NOT received your renewal form yet, please contact John Hachmann (johnhachmann@yahoo.com). Your membership renewals are due by December 31st! Getting your renewal in on-time saves the club money by reducing the costs of mailing. Lastly, if you have shooting buddies that are interested in joining the Connecticut Travelers, we have included a Membership Application in this edition. Share the best value in sporting clays with your friends! YEAR END WRAP-UP Jeff Hunter Isn t it funny how day-by-day nothing changes but when you look back everything is different C.S. Lewis I would like to take this opportunity to thank a bunch of people who have made the Connecticut Travelers organization run smoothly this year. First, I would like to thank all my Reload writers. Bill Beinert has jumped in and taken over the task of doing the monthly shoot write-up. He has done a tremendous job and I appreciate all his creative work. Carol and Fred Roesslein have done an excellent job on covering our spring and fall trips for the rest of the membership. Guest author, Lans Christensen, always comes through in an emergency. The contributions of all these people allow us to put out a consistent and well written edition of Reload. Bob Schrager and Gwyn Grant deserve special recognition for the work they do in organizing the Spring and Fall Trips. Bob starts planning these trips about a year in advance and a huge amount of planning goes into each trip. President Dean Anglace has taken leadership to a new level this year. While there are bumps in every road, I think the future of the organization is in good hands with Dean. Danielle Anglace has become a staple behind the scenes and continues to come up with good ideas that benefit the membership. And she likes to poke fun at Dean which is always a plus! Last, but not least, John Hachmann does an incredible job with generating, sending out, and processing of membership renewals. This is a monumental task in any year, but as many of you know, John has been fighting a mountain of injuries this year. I look forward to meeting more great people and shooting some phenomenal places next year!
