1 RELOAD! Celebrating Our 25th Year July 2012 MEMORIAL Jeff Hunter The Albert Anglace Memorial Club Championships was shaping up to be quite a shoot. All the elements were in place for a high turn-out; honoring the man that started it all, perfect weather, the club championship, Father s Day, and we re shooting at the ultra-exclusive Mashomack Preserve. The shoot organizers were not at all surprised when 129 people showed up on June 17th. We finished registering and squadding the walk-ins by 10:00 and promptly gathered the group for safety. Club Treasurer, John Hachmann, read stirring words from Hal Lang, Bill Tracey s Wednesday Group, and Bruce Hoheb along with some very generous donations to the Juniors Program. Club Vice-President, Dean Anglace, thanked everyone for their support and prayers after Al s passing on behalf of Joyce and the entire Anglace family. We then honored Al with a moment of silence. The silence was broken with three reports from a cannon organized by Charlie Conger to honor his long-time friend. Charlie continued to honor Al and the Travelers with a championship level Travelers Tough course. I started on station two which was three pair of an outgoing quartering bird from the right followed by an incoming curling target on report. The quartering

2 bird was on the shooter s right side and rose as it jetted out to the sky. The incoming bird was coming off a hill so it was deceiving and by the time it got within shooting range it was also dropping. Fun stuff! Station five was equally challenging. The black teal rose straight up and then fell down almost the exact same path. As Bob Schrager stepped out of the box, he told my squad to shoot it on the left and strode away to the next station. I watched the show-pair and at it s apex fell off to the right. I looked at Howard Weiss and we both shrugged our shoulders and I asked for another show pair. Sure enough, back down on the right side. Station five s report was a high incoming black bird against an azure sky. The Traveler s Tough peg of the day was station ten. The first bird was a rabbit on the other side of a pond as a crossing target. The pond was maybe 35 yards across so there was a little distance and there was hardly any bounce on most targets. The report was a very high incoming bird high long driven bird. Eight birds later and we were happy with a bunch of fives! At the conclusion of our 100 targets, we traveled down the road to Copperfield s for lunch and awards. Donna Galotto brought a donated squad of four for the Pawling Mountain Open. The squad was filled by lucky draw with Steve Thomsen, Debbe Christensen, Gene Celentani, and Steve Andiorio. When all the dust settled, Christian Suter topped the field with a 95 to claim back-toback Club Championships! Good shooting Christian! Our next outing will be Summertime, Summertime" on July 15th at Orvis Sandanona. 3 SUMMERTIME, SUMMERTIME The Connecticut Travelers have always stressed that shooting should be fun and affordable. Instead of providing you with 100 targets every month in just another tournament, we strive to deliver interesting shoot formats and mix up the events so everybody stays interested. The concept of Simo Sunday, a course of all true pairs, was a Traveler s Original. We will continue that tradition on Sunday, July 15th at "Summertime, Summertime"...with a twist. Twenty-five years ago Al and six fellow shotgun enthusiasts went to Orvis Sandanona to shoot sporting clays. Through the years Orvis has been very good to us and we return to Millbrook every year like the swallows return to Capistrano. Orvis Sandanona has partnered with us to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Travelers by bringing you 125 targets and lunch at Copperfield's for the unheard of price of $75. How do you shoot 125 targets all as true pairs? That's the twist and it will be revealed on the day of the shoot. When The Frugalist sees a deal too good to be true, he usually starts looking for the fine print. There is a "catch"; we will gather for safety instructions at 9:30 instead of 9:45. So if you skip that extra cup of coffee and don't check your Facebook you'll be right on time. The entry form is attached and I hope to see you on the 15th! TRAVELERS TIDBIT We had a number of scorecards come in this month without a total on them. Please total your score and enter it on the bottom of your card. It saves time during the scoring process. 7 The upcoming CTTRAVELERS Monthly Shoot Summertime, Summertime Orvis Sandanona has partnered with the Travelers to host a 125 target shoot to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Sunday, July 15th, 2012 Orvis Sandanona Millbrook, New York DIRECTIONS: Taconic Parkway North to NY Rte. 44 East exit. Turn right off ramp and follow Rte. 44 to Rte. 44A on left. Turn left onto 44A and continue to club driveway on the left. (845) REGISTRATION APPLICATION Your application must be received on or before Wednesday, July 11th, Continental Breakfast opens at 8:30AM. Safety Instructions at 9:30 with a shotgun start following. A luncheon will be served following the shoot at Copperfield s Resturant (Right Turn out of O/S to Rte. 44. Right turn onto 44, 1.5 miles to Copperfield s) CTSCA Members: $75; Guests: $90.
