1 RELOAD! Celebrating our 28th year. May 2015 DOUBLE TAXATION Bill Beinert What a welcome back from my month in the Sunshine State! T-shirt weather, 2 great courses, 200 birds with no waiting, and still home for dinner! It was enough to make you forget to hate the IRS. My hat is off to the genius who devised this double-header. It worked perfectly. With half the Travelers spending the morning at Dover Furnace, and the other half at Ten Mile River Preserve, then swapping courses after a fine lunch at Dover Furnace, there was virtually no wait time at any station. One-Hundred Twenty-three Travelers and guests showed up for the event. Eighty-one of us shot both courses, while Thirty-seven elected to shoot only Ten Mile River and five only Dover Furnace. Congratulations to Christian Suter for taking HOA on both courses (96 at TMRP and 89 at Dover Furnace). Dover Furnace was clearly the tougher course, with a median score of 66, compared to 76 at TMRP. Ed Przybyski, Ken Clark, Carl Ranieri and I started the day at Dover Furnace. Thanks to Ken s golf cart and skillful speedy driving, we made our way through the course in record time. I wish my shooting would have set a similar record. The birds were tough. The station that stands out for difficulty was Dover Furnace #15. This 3 report pair station started with a bird thrown from high on the hill to the right, crossing and falling all the way my guess is that few of us even dusted it followed by a fast left to right low crosser. In fact, only two people got all six on #15; Phil Steinkraus and Shotgun Diva Grace Callahan. Station #13 at Dover was also a toughie (at least for me- I rarely get to taste rabbit stew). A high quartering incomer from 60 yards out headed into the trees on the right, followed by a fast outgoing rabbit from the right. Lunch was served early at Dover Furnace (a last minute change, I understand) and offered steak, pork, chicken, rice, potatoes, salad and corn

2 bread. All were delicious. A ten minute drive took us over to Ten Mile River Preserve, where the beautiful scenery complemented the beautiful (and more forgiving) birds. It was more shoot, drive, shoot, drive, shoot. Who could ask for anything more? (Well, I could ask for a repeat of this double-header next year!) None of the stations were super tough, but if you don t like chandelles, station 5 left you grumbling. Our thanks to the staffs at Dover Furnace and Ten Mile River Preserve for their great work providing a wonderful shooting experience. Dean and Danielle Anglace sacrificed their time to run the whole shoot while 123 of us got to play. This will be a traditional format shoot with a continental breakfast before the shoot and 100 targets. 3 JUNIOR CLINIC RAFFLE The Junior s Instructional Clinic last year had eighteen CT Travelers receiving expert guidance from Tom Fiumarello and Paula Moore. This year we are going to offer another clinic for Juniors early in the Summer. Tom Fiumarello has graciously donated a 10 bird guided pheasant hunt at T-M-T Preserve to be raffled off in order to raise funds to help offset the cost of the clinic. We will be selling raffle tickets ($5 each or 5 for $20) at the May shoot and draw the winner at the awards ceremony after the shoot. We appreciate your support at our May event. Turn right off ramp and follow Rte. 44 mile to Rte. 82. Turn left onto Rt. 82 and proceed approx. 14 miles, passing through the town of Stanfordville. Look for a sign post on the left with the green private road sign Daniel s Way. The club s entrance is one mile past this sign on left.
