Dis beslis nie die tyd om die gerei weg te pak nie! Volgens die antwoorde wat lesers verskaf het in ons leser oorsig wat in Desember op ons sosiale media gepubliseer is, is Die Oewerhengelaar/The Bank Angler baie gelukkig en veral dankbaar! - om so n positiewe bydrae te kan maak aan die vele fronte van ons plaaslike hengelnywerheid. Daar is weereens feite geopenbaar wat al lankal bekend was maar wat weer beklemtoon moes word soos byvoorbeeld dat karp by ver die gunsteling teikenspesie is (< 90%) gevolg deur graskarp, baber en moddervis. Insiggewend is die feit dat die Grootbekgeelvis nou meer aandag geniet as n paar jare terug, en wat nou saam met Bloukurper ge-ag word. Tesame hiermee is n baie groter gewaarwording vir goeie bewaringspraktyke ook te bespeur, wat wel iets goed vir ons sport is. Nog iets wat die oorsig uitgewys het is dat vrouens en veral die dogters in die gesin al hoe meer in hengel belangstel, n baie positiewe verskyning en iets wat georganiseerde hengel wel van notisie kan neem. Uit n redakter se oogpunt is die onderwerpe wat gedek word van kardinale belang want dit is die redaksionele resep wat maak dat lesers die eindproduk (die gedrukte tydskrif) gereeld koop dit moet altyd van hoë gehalte wees en n ontspanne kombinasie van inligting en vermaak aanbied. Van al die verskillende rubrieke en artikels wat gereeld verskyn is die Aaskombuis (dit het vroeër onder die titel Aaskliniek verskyn) by verre die mees gewild hoe dan anders, want hengelaars wêreldwyd is steeds op soek na n wonderaas as daar ooit so iets sal bestaan bygesê! Dan baie naby aanmekaar, sê maar gelyk, is Produktenuus, Produk-Oorsigte, Hengel Avonture, Venues en Hengel Ons Lewe. Ons wou ook weet of daar ander onderwerpe is wat lesers in die tydskrif wil sien, en ons was nie eintlik verbaas nie toe Kamp en Kampkos deur 65% van lesers genoem is. Dit sluit aan by die oorweldigend meerderheid van lesers wat kamp met n tent bo n woonwa of chalet verkies as hulle by die oewer oornag. Ander onderwerpe soos hengel met glanspersoonlikhede in die hengelwêreld (nie sangers of akteurs nie!), hengelvoertuie en eerstehulp word ook genoem. Wees gerus, ons werk daaraan. It is also the most influential factor when it comes to making buying decisions for tackle and angling related equipment. For me a most important question was: who introduced readers to recreational fishing? The overwhelming answer was a family member or a friend. This once again proves how important it is for each and every reader to introduce at least one person a child, a friend, whatever to our recreational fishing world at every available opportunity. That is the best way to grow participation in what is accepted and recognised as a socially acceptable outdoor activity for the entire family. Meanwhile enjoy your fishing, and as always, Take Care!
