Dit juig en jubel oral waar rivier en spruite weer sterk vloei en damme hul vol kapasiteit bereik het, en daarmee saam is daar dankie gesê vir die Hoër Hand wat ons gebede beantwoord het. Ons moet egter nie ophou om ons beskikbare water sinvol en suinig te gebruik nie om water te mors bly uiters onverantwoordelik en is eintlik n misdaad teenoor jou mede landsgenote. Net om die verbysterende en magtige krag van water uit te lig, is die feit dat Vaaldam binne net n week van so 70% tot 100% gestyg het! En vir almal wat die pad na Bloemhofdam toe ry was die tonele van vloedwater wat oor die toegangspad na die dorp spoel iets ysliks om te aanskou *Lesers wat fotos of videos van die vloed het, word gevra om dit vir ons in te stuur (editor@thebankangler.com). Seeing as how this is our April issue, some readers can be excused for thinking that somewhere in its pages lurks another April Fool s Joke, but no, I have something even better, namely the news that Drone Fishing is now in the country, is being practiced at both freshwater and saltwater venues and is indeed producing noteworthy catches. And it is no joking matter! For sure there are detractors who maintain that using a drone to take out bait and groundfeed is unsporting and so on, but at the same time use either a canoe or a bait boat to do exactly the same. As Gary McDonough notes in the first in his series on drone fishing (see page 54) As with all new technology, there is a sprinkling of skepticism in the air and a new debate amongst purists as to whether or not this is real fishing But as he explains, the advantages of having an aircraft to take out your bait far outweigh the criticisms. In any event I can foresee that somewhere in the not too distant future we will see gatherings of drone anglers on the banks, either in a purely social sense or more probably competing in drone tournaments. It s definitely another technological development that takes freshwater bank angling to another level don t be left behind! Having said that however, I must state that I still regard the ability to cast as a fundamental and an essential skill that is at the heart of our freshwater bank angling. Nevertheless, technology will continue to enhance (or is that invade?) our lives, and it is just up to the individual to decide what technology he or she wants to use. Dis nou as jy nes ek!- n gewigtige saak met die stand van die maan het!
