I have heard nothing but positive remarks/comments and am very honored to be a part of such a wonderful organization. There have been some requests to make it an annual celebration... hmmmm... Thanks to Diana and Bill Bailey for hosting our past cruise over Memorial Day to Pleasant Harbor. It was a fun filled and relaxing time. Our upcoming June cruise is close to home and should be lots of fun. Hope you can make it. Please keep July 16th open for the Commodore's Picnic. Because of all the activities that we have had the last few months, we will be combining the Commodore's Picnic and the Junior Officers Event. Plans are in the works (more details to follow). How about a Hawaiian Cowboy theme? Annual Dues are now due. Please send your renewal to the atten- tion of John Watson or bring to the next General Meeting on June 9th. Dues must be current in order to vote for the Flag Officers/Executive board for and voting will be at our June meeting. I am very pleased that we do have a full slate to present for your vote. Thank you to J.R. and to all that have stepped up to help with the operation of our club. With Mayvember now behind us, I'm hoping for a full month of June and not Junuary! Sending sunny thoughts... 2 P a g e 2 N a u t i c a l L i n e s.although we had the coldest May on record, BVYC members proved we can still have fun! Celebrating the BVYC 40 th was a success. Thank you to Commodore Noreen for having the vision for the celebration and Bob Kalmbach for spearheading the details in pulling it together. Many people stepped up to help which created a great atmosphere for all who attended. We received two applications and completed both readings for membership in May. Lisa Katsirubas applied for a single membership. Jonathan and Carolyn Thomas is Lisa s sponsor. Brett, Kristin, Logan and Lark Stafford applied for a family membership. Art and Carol Kovarnik is the Stafford s sponsor. Look forward to their installation in June. Don t be shy when it comes to making all our new members over the past 12 Months feel welcome. (As an opener ask Brett why one of his mooring lines is so short) SaraNell and I took advantage of reciprocal moorage in Pt Townsend on May 23 rd. What a great experience. It is assigned by the Boat Haven moorage office and includes electricity. (Check out the details in our reciprocal binder) We did this the night before our haul-out, which was an experience. Bob Kalmbach commented on how nice our bottom looked when he saw us leaving Pt Townsend. If you have not provided me or one of the board members with a 5 X 7 color photo of your boat we need it. Cheers to you! Clark Jelley, Vice Commodore (S/V Frolic) Rear Commodore Report WOW! What a great start to our Spring and Summer Boating Season! Between the awesome cruises and gatherings some of our members have actually found the time to work on the "honey-do" projects with our wonderful clubhouse. A real shout out to Bob Kolmbach for his able plumbing skills applied toward re-piping the sink drains, finally something that won't leak every time we jostle it a bit. We had a great turn out for our Five-Year attic organization effort headed up by Noreen. If you think YOUR attic is challenged you would have loved what we found! In recognition of the club s 40th Anniversary, a barrister was purchased. Thank you Ron and Noreen in your time and effort in finding a place for this beautiful piece of furniture and all the rearranging that went with it. Ron also added coasters to the podium to make it a lot easier to move around. Thanks to these ambitious shipmates as well to the number of unnamed members who contribute day-to-day to make our club a gem in the Puget Sound. Saturday, 18 June we will have our annual (late) Spring House cleaning for the Clubhouse. I encourage all to jump in; Many Hands Makes Light Work. We plan to go from 9:00 am to Noon. John Watson on Scorpio will be your Fleet Captain. You can contact him on Channel 68 or phone, prior to docking. Cost for moorage: boats under 28 foot, $10 a night with $2.00 electrical; over 28 foot, $20 a night with $2.00 electrical. They prefer you write a check, but they will take cash. Envelopes at the dock. Friday night you will be on your own; however let s meet on the dock for cocktails and light hors d oeuvers around 4:00 pm. For those who like to shake your booty til the wee hours, The Silverdale Bistro has a great disco on Friday nights, and excellent martini s. Saturday you will have your choice of taking the grand walk along the Clear Creek and check out the flora and fauna, or maybe bird watching. Another option for a fine Saturday afternoon is taking your dinghy down to Oyster Bay and just hanging out in the sun. A pot luck dinner is planned on the dock, say around 6:30 pm. Bring a dish from your roots to share. Sunday morning at 10:00 am, Monica s bakery in Silverdale will provide several quiches for our breakfast on the dock. Bring a dish to compliment the quiche or maybe a bottle of Champaign and orange juice. Oh the possibilities! Hope to see you all there! Thank you, John Watson

4 Page 4 N a u t i c a l L i n e s As the saying goes let the GOOD TIMES ROLL and WOW did they for those attending the weekend long BVYC 40th Birthday Celebration. Friday evening we saw over seventy people attending the all invite social. Featuring an enormous collection of fantastic food, good company and a great time for all. Saturday s dinner drew 79 people for a remarkable menu of New York steaks, marinated chicken breast, potato salad, tossed Green Salad, baked beans, Rickie Rolls (thanks Rick Galasyn) cake and cupcakes and yes as usual no one went away hungry which is probably why we are known by many as the Brownsville Yacht and Eating After dinner to everyone s enjoyclub. ment next up was the Kitsap Quartet singing an array of romantic, delightful songs and even one slightly embarrassing song (ask Carolyn Thomas about this who is now known as Little Red Riding Hood).. Next up was our own local group of musicians made up of some very talented folks from the marina playing for our enjoyment. This group played a wide range of music from fifties to current songs testing the pavilion floor with dancers doing everything from the Boogaloo to I m still trying to figure out what it is called or what they were doing but they all were having a great time (sorry neighbors we didn t mean to keep you up that late but we were just having to much fun to quit).

5 P a g e 5 N e w s l e t t e r T i t l e Sunday morning s breakfast drew a hungry crowd as the consumed 20 pounds of sausage, ten dozen eggs, 25 pounds of pancake flour, five gallons of orange juice and untold gallons of coffee. Thanks go to all those that helped make this a great event: Commodore Noreen Leblanc for the celebration idea, great gift baskets that where raffled off and just helping out all weekend. Clark and SaraNell Jelley for sending out invitations, press releases, taking reservations, numerous phone calls, decorating for Fridays social, raffle items and so many other things I can t think of them all, thank you thank you! Ron Smith for cooking, cleaning, hauling and picking up supplies, Carl and Sue Pedersen for taking care of the games, Bill and Diana Bailey for chairing Sunday s breakfast, Art Kovarnik and Bob Stevens for arranging for all the food, cooking, hauling, cleaning and those many other things you two did. Barbara and Art Shieck for stepping in and helping where needed, Carolyn Thomas for decorating the pavilion, Chris, Jodi, Jeremy and Rebecca Fitchet for loaning us the warmers and helping out everywhere. I know I ve forgotten many that helped make this event special, you didn t go unnoticed and your help was greatly appreciated!!!! Famous Pleasant Harbor Eagle Lark Stafford Red Neck Windchime Bill s favorite Rainier Beer Memorial Day Weekend Cruise to Pleasant Harbor We had an enjoyable cruise to Pleasant Harbor over Memorial Day weekend. The weather was a little cool but we were able to enjoy a couple of potlucks outdoors. Bill and I were able to forage enough clams and shrimp for hors d`oeuvres which was a big hit. The boats that attended were: Last Waltz, Reely R's, Blue Velvet, Great White-Brett, Kristin, Logan and Lark Stafford; soon to be new members, Frolic, and Honky Tonk. By car we had Bob Stevens, JT & Carolyn Thomas, JR & Tina Leaman and Lisa Katisurbas, also becoming a new member. The Stafford family had a boat problem but were determined to make the cruise arriving at around 11:00pm with all of us waiting to give them a hand with their lines. The PH staff went all out to make our weekend enjoyable and with 3 yacht clubs they had their hands full. They put on a scavenger hunt, no one could find the blue crab then we found out that someone stole it. They shuttled us by van to Shrimp Fest, and a beautiful waterfalls nearby. They even delivered ice to the docks and picked up trash, kudos to the crew. Shrimp Fest was fun everyone found something to eat and there were lots of booths to check out and I think it was the first time any of us had attended the event. We also had a big winner in the Belt Sander races, it was Lark Stafford age 7 who won 1st place in the children's group and won $15.00, good for her. Bill and Diana Bailey Honkey Tonk
