U19A RBHS 12 STELLENBERG 31 The first game back after a lengthy break, against a very good Stellenberg team, is always going to be tough. Unfortunately, despite a lot of encouragement and programming, as a squad we did not return in a fit enough condition to play to our potential, which in this brutal league is a bare essential. I also perhaps trained the lads too lightly on the Thursday prior, because, from the start, Stellenberg looked fitter, hungrier and brought more intensity. It did not help that we gave away two intercept tries, from the first of which we probably would have scored. This left us trailing by 12 points after seven minutes. We fought back well. A brilliant chip and regather by Thoubaan Gabriels and an excellent conversion, from the touchline, by Ross Stone brought us back to within five points. We then dominated most of the rest of the half and played some really decent attacking rugby; but, again and again, at key moments our individual execution let us down. Sometimes, it was the smallest of things - but it cost us. Then, with two minutes to go in the half and after numerous phases, the Stellenberg flank broke through our midfield. He outstripped our back three defenders to give them another converted try and a 19-7 lead.

We managed to slightly lift our intensity levels and did score first through an effective maul. With the score at we had a chance. But we struggled to capitalise on opportunities, often getting too lateral on attack and on defence we got too tight. On one such occasion, their fleet footed fullback out paced us and scored under the poles, mid-way through the second half. The boys continued to fight bravely but, after another turnover ball late in the game, Stellenberg s flyhalf had a free run into the corner to make it On reflection, we definitely did not pitch with the same level of intent and perhaps a warmup game would have actually helped or at least an intense physical practice on the Thursday. But, if you take the two intercepts out of the game, then it was not all one way. We were not good enough and we are angry at ourselves; but, after analysis and a team meeting, we are looking positively at Paul Roos. We have victories of our own in mind and I am convinced that we will get them. TRIES: CONVERSIONS: Thoubaan Gabriels, Troy Fisher Ross Stone MARK LINDENBERG

U19B (Soldiers) RBHS 26 ELTHAM COLLEGE (UK) 13 On Thursday 17 April, we hosted the tourists from South London on the Tinkie Heyns Field. The visitors boasted a powerful pack and were willing to run at every opportunity. So, it took the Soldiers (rusty from the June holidays) some time to find their feet. The Englishmen went ahead 3-0 with a penalty in the second minute and their tails were up, but once the rhythm settled, it was plain sailing for the Soldiers. Two quick scores by Aidan Rooke (12) after seven minutes and big Bryan le Roux (4), five minutes later, laid the foundation. The accurate boot of Paul Ige (3) added the extra points taking the lead to 14-3 at the break. Eltham came back with a penalty but, 10 minutes later, captain Reece van Eden (7) went over to stretch the lead to The visitors were now determined to show their mettle and tested the Soldiers defence through continuous attacks. They eventually scored five minutes from the end. With the conversion successful, they only trailed by six points (19-13) and knew that a converted try could win it. The Soldiers were just as determined to protect territory and, after an up field charge, Chulumanco Mputing (1) delivered the perfect cross-kick into the enemy goal area. Their fullback fumbled, which allowed nippy Caleb Starr (14) to dot down. Oliver Daffarn converted to seal the win at TOP GUN (MAN OF THE MATCH): Reece van Eden JOHANN GERBER

U19B (Soldiers) RBHS 20 STELLENBERG 22 The Soldiers started their defence against the invaders from the north in grand style. Mihlali Mgolodela (8) ended a storming run along the touchline with the first try after just six minutes. This was closely followed by Jamie Lamprecht (5) four minutes later. The normally reliable boot of Paul Ige (3) could not convert and, as it would prove later, was a crucial factor. Up 12-0, the Soldiers continued to defend well against an attack from Stellenberg that was becoming increasingly difficult to hold at bay. Their big pack even managed a heel against the head, but could not capitalise on this gain. In the twenty-first minute, Caleb Starr (15) rounded off a fine movement in which most forwards and backs handled the ball. Oliver Daffarn (10) added the extra points to establish a comfortable 17-0 lead. However, just before the break, Stellenberg finally scored to reduce their deficit to at water bottle time. There must have been some serious talk by the visiting coaches during half time as they managed a converted try, almost immediately after the restart, to draw level at Inspired by this comeback, they furiously attacked and tried their best to snatch the game away from Bosch. Now, the Soldiers had to rely on their defence. Here, the white headband of Jay Reiback (2), the red scrum cap of Campbell Slater (4) and the black scrum cap of Lamprecht were visibly prominent. They were ably assisted in the back by Tiaan van Loggerenberg (13), Aidan Rooke (12) and Daniel Wells (11). Getting the lead back was crucial so it came as no surprise that Daffarn opted to go for posts three minutes from the end to take a slender lead at Then, disaster struck right on time, when a Stellenberg sniper sneaked through to snatch the game at The Soldiers were unlucky. They played the better rugby, but, once again the old cliché, that the game is not over until the fat lady sings, had the last laugh. TOP GUN (MAN OF THE MATCH): Jay Reiback JOHANN GERBER

U19C RBHS 0 STELLENBERG 24 After a long holiday, and very little training, we knew that it was going to be a tough game against Stellenberg. We got off to a very slow start and, unfortunately, that set the standard for the rest of the game. We made far too many mistakes and our handling errors really cost us, especially when getting into good positions on the field. Our decision making was not the greatest, nor was our ball retention, and this was easy to see. We had some positive periods but it came down to who wanted it more. We started to claw our way back into the game and were more fluent in the end, but it was just not enough. We lost the game and have a lot of hard work ahead of us before our match against Paul Roos. U19D (Force) RBHS 7 STELLENBERG 31 After a long break, we could see that the boys were still in holiday mode. They were keen and eager to get back to rugby practice in the week and dominated the practice sessions. However, when it came to game time, clearly waking up on a Saturday wasn t something that they were used to doing. The boys were fast asleep in the first half. It took a thrashing of 21 points to zero to wake them up. The second half came around and we had finally woken up. The boys started tackling and rucking properly and we managed to score seven points. We dominated possession and territory and put a lot more set-pieces together. We could not win the game as fatigue had definitely set in and affected our gameplay. We went down Physicality is a big issue among certain members of the team and we plan to rectify that this week in practice. WHALEED WILLIAMS

U16A RBHS 13 STELLENBERG 14 Stellenberg came to Rondebosch with a lot of intent, but the U16A team were up for the fight and came out playing very smart and accurate rugby. Kian Davis controlled the game well, from flyhalf, and took Bosch out to a six point lead with two well-taken penalties. Lukhanyo Vokozela was prominent with ball in hand; and a good phase of play saw Davis break the line to score under the posts and take Bosch to a 13-0 lead at half time. The second half saw a strong response from the visitors who put a lot of pressure on at scrum time. An untidy ball at the back of the scrum saw Stellenberg s scrumhalf dart over for a try. Bosch defended the now six point lead bravely, but a few errors allowed the visitors numerous opportunities to attack from setpieces in our half. Five minutes from time they took one of those chances and another excellent conversion saw Bosch fall behind for the first time in the match. A customary late surge by Bosch resulted in a long range penalty opportunity, which fell agonisingly short to end the match Perhaps it was not the result the boys were looking for; but there were many positives that they can take into what will be a big challenge out in Stellenbosch this coming Saturday. PIETER BENADE

U16B RBHS 0 STELLENBERG 33 Saturday the 21st of July saw the U16Bs come up against Stellenberg. After last year s poor performance and narrow loss, we knew that if we minimised our mistakes and stuck to our structure we would be able to right the wrongs of Unfortunately, none of this happened; we struggled to stick to structure and tried to force 50/50 passes. Every four phases or so we would be miles behind the ruck and get blown up for holding on. Sometimes, this even happened off the set-piece! We didn t miss many tackles initially but, when you give the ball away constantly and are forced to defend for 70% of the game, missed tackles are inevitable. Positives to take out of the game were the set-pieces - I think the forwards did well there but, unfortunately, we never really got out of first gear. We are going to need to come to practice this week with a better work ethic, focus and character. Obviously the sun still shines, it was a disappointing performance and the boys know that, but we are here to have fun playing rugby. I m sure the guys will put in their best efforts this week, having some good laughs along the way. Our focus this week will be holding onto the ball. MICHAEL PALFRAMAN

U15A RBHS 12 STELLENBERG 10 A beautiful winter s morning greeted the boys on Meadow B as our U15A side took to the field to face Stellenberg. The visitors had disposed of the Wynberg U15A the week before, and were keen to add another Southern Suburbs scalp to their collection. In the end, it was not to be. The Bosch boys pulled through in injury time to win by 12 points to 10. However, it was no spectacle and both sides produced an error-ridden performance. From a Bosch perspective, the fact that we played badly but still managed to win speaks volumes. Our boys were uncharacteristically lethargic and we were guilty of numerous unforced errors. Instead of showing patience on attack, we forced play, resulting in numerous changes in possession. Accuracy was a major problem and we let ourselves down with aimless kicking and simple bad handling. This was compounded by our inability to win our own lineout ball, which in all, made for a very frustrating morning. Stellenberg started strongly, scoring early and taking a welldeserved 7-0 lead. This seemed to fire up Bosch and, through constructive play, we put the opposition under pressure in their 22 m area. Connor Davis got Bosch on the board with a classy break from a middle of the field set-piece. Then, Nur Gabriels added the conversion, 7-7. Stellenberg continued to threaten the Bosch defence and, from a penalty, they regained the lead. We trailed 10-7 at the break. The boys gathered over water clearly not happy with our performance. A major concern was the high error rate and lack of intensity in our play. In the second half, Stellenberg continued to dominate proceedings, in terms of territorial field position and the possession stakes. With time running out on the clock, our fate looked sealed. However, Bosch launched one final sortie into the Stellenberg half and the pack, again working hard to secure the overlap out wide, allowed Jibreel Obaray to cross over in the corner. Credit to the Bosch boys for fighting to the end as the win was secured well into injury time,

Valuable lessons have been learnt from this encounter. We know that we will have our work cut out, come Saturday, up against Paul Roos, away from home. Our thoughts are with the Obaray family with Jibreel losing his grandfather last Friday. TRIES: CONVERSIONS: Connor Davis, Jibreel Obaray Nur Gabriels NEIL TEUBES U15B RBHS 24 STELLENBERG 12 The first game back after a long break is always going to be scrappy and the team that pitches with a better attitude gets the result. This proved true as Bosch, eventually, came away deserved winners on a day in which very few Bosch teams tasted victory. After a long time off there was an emphasis, in the week s build up, on basics and fight in the contact. While it did take longer than we would have liked to wake up in the first half when the rust was off the Bosch defensive unit put up an impressive display. Bosch s main threat came at maul time, off which we won many penalties, which gave us good field position and a try. With only a slender lead at half time, the game could have gone either way. But a mature performance by the boys, led by newly converted fly half, Ben Wall, who put in a spectacular shift, ensured a comfortable victory. Muhammad Galvaan was another standout player, with a few scintillating line breaks and a long-range try coming from the left-winger. Overall, it was a good performance for a first game back; but a lot of hard work is required before the daunting task of a trip up to Paul Roos. BYRON BOWES

U14A RBHS 3 STELLENBERG 7 On Saturday 21 July, Rondebosch hosted Stellenberg High School in the first official traditional fixture of term three. Stellenberg's stocks have risen in recent years, which almost certainly guaranteed a tight, physical encounter. Although the U14A fixture acted as the "dew - sweeper", the match certainly heated up the contest for an epic day of schoolboy rugby. Rondebosch kicked off first and Stellenberg opted to test the Rondebosch defence. We took a while to hit our straps and were found slightly narrow on defence on a couple of occasions. Due to the wet field, handling errors from both sides meant that neither side could round off their opportunities. The sheer physicality of the match meant that, in spite of going into the half time break scoreless, all and sundry enjoyed the contest. Rondebosch came out of the blocks with more intensity and purpose in the second half. Thanks to the educated boot of Jacques Jooste we definitely had territorial dominance and could play the game in the right areas of the field. Unfortunately, for the first time this season, our lineout did not function well and we lost many key lineouts in great attacking positions. Our scrum was also put under pressure and thus limited these opportunities even further. Jooste knocked over a penalty for a short-lived 3-0 lead, before the Stellenberg right winger beat a couple of defenders, retrieved his own grubber kick and scored a phenomenal solo effort. The score read 7-3 to the visitors. The final quarter of the second half was spent in the Stellenberg 22. Rondebosch threw hammer and tongs at their opponents, but just could not cross the whitewash. We came very close on a couple of occasions but, as the final moment of the game saw us held up over the line, it just was not our day for the fairytale finish. Stellenberg clinched the 7-3 victory. PENALTIES: Jacques Jooste JACO ZEEMAN

U14B RBHS 14 STELLENBERG 29 The boys met at 8.30 to cheer on the U14A team and realised that they were going to be in for a tough match. After the warm up the boys took to the field, ready for a big game on Lower Desert A. We didn t have much possession in the first half and spent a fair amount of the half in our half of the field defending. The score at half time was 12-0 to Stellenberg, however, we were not out of it. In the second half Nkosinathi Volmink produced an individual piece of brilliance! He ran in a 70 odd metre try under the poles, after beating three or four defenders and showing that his pace was to not be reeled in. The score was then Connor McTavish made a massive tackle on a Stellenberg player and the momentum was starting to shift. However, after a few mistakes with the ball and on defence, we let through a few tries and the game was all but over. Liam Clavaux scored a good consolation try after picking up from the back of the scrum and powering his way over. The Man of the Match was Volmink and the biggest tackle of the game went to McTavish. DEREK MITCHELL U14C RBHS 12 STELLENBERG 20 The cliché goes that it doesn t matter who wins or loses but it is how you play the game. On this particular occasion, I mean this not so much in the sense that we played amazing rugby and were unlucky to lose. I mean it more in the sense that we acknowledged that we have not placed winning as our ultimate goal. We are focused on improving the boys basic skills and understanding of the game in order to equip them with the skills needed to enjoy senior rugby. To that extent I believe that the boys are working hard and are improving. Given the supplemented strength we faced on Saturday, I firmly believe that the boys acquitted themselves and the school in an excellent manner and can be proud of their efforts to come back into the game. Keep working hard boys. The rewards and the results will come. TRIES: Robert Walker (2) CONVERSIONS: Nicholas Owen DAVID VAN DER LINDE

U19A RBHS 17 PAUL ROOS 44 After a poor performance against Stellenberg, we had a team meeting to discuss our concerns. After this, we had a much more focused training week. Playing, arguably, the strongest school boy team in world rugby, who had just beaten a good Wynberg side 74-14, certainly helped to focus the lads! We had set our own goals for the game and it was not all about the score board for us. After a really motivating and meaningful jersey handover by Clinton Van Rensburg, we hit the maroon monster and did not stop hitting them. Our defensive line speed and double tackles put them under enough pressure to completely unsettle their attack. Our lineouts were functioning well and we stole their first two throws, which rattled them. Our attack was more organised, but we still lacked composure at key moments. We kicked the ball away when we could have pressured them a lot more by keeping it in hand; and we forced a crucial offload after we broke their line with a sweeping set-piece movement, which resulted in them gathering possession tearing downfield and camping on our tryline. Eventually, they scored right in the corner, but not before we displayed the most impressive tryline defence that I have witnessed this year. From their first try Jaco Barnard kicked off with a nice hanging kick right against the touchline. This was followed up by a good double hit and drive into touch by our pack. From this lineout we put together seven more patient phases before Ra ees Sallie crashed over their line.

The one key area where they had an advantage was their super strong scrum, which had earned them an early three pointer. Their second try came from a tighthead and an attack up our blind. But, again, we struck back after a great buildup and a clever floated pass over the top by Ross Stone to Dalvon Blood. He raced into the corner to make the half time score to them. We had placed them under huge pressure in the first half, which certainly gave us some confidence; but we knew they would come back much harder in the second half. And that is exactly what they did. They pushed the ball a lot wider a lot earlier and upped their tempo. We were caught far too tight around the rucks, which meant our outside defenders were in trouble. They scored in this way directly from the half time kickoff. Then they scored a few soft tries into the blind off a scrum and a lineout. We were just not concentrating and got our system wrong again, offering them the space and numbers on the touchline. Credit to our boys though, they never dropped their heads or their intensity in the tackle. They remained determined to end on our terms. That s exactly what we did when Conor van Eden chipped over their approaching backline off a scrum. The ball bounced over the desperate hands of Ross Stone and into Van Eden s allowing him a free dive under the poles with Stone converting. This was a much improved performance against probably the best school boy team in the world. We will take a lot of positives from this into our final three games. 24 U19B (Soldiers) RBHS 12 PAUL ROOS 26 Ten minutes into the second half, the Maroon Machine was 26-0 up and the home crowd was eagerly awaiting a cricket score to be posted. But the Soldiers responded with their never give up attitude and, for the rest of the game, the Stellenbosch boys had to defend against 15 blue shirts who only knew two phrases: attack when you have possession and defend like hell when they have the ball. As a result, the home team saw two tries scored against them and could not break through the Bosch barricade. There were many standout performers. In the heavy artillery, burly Paul Ige (3), lanky Jamie Lamprecht (5), fiery Jay Reiback (2) and captain Reece van Eden (7) were in the forefront with storming drives and hard tackles. While in the cavalry, centres Tiaan van Loggerenberg and Aidan Rooke stopped attackers in their tracks; and flyhalf Conor van Eden, winger Dan Wells and scrummie Ishma-eel Safodien shone on attack. Keegan Bezuidenhout (6) got through an immense amount of work through tackles, stealing balls, driving forward and generally making sure that the Soldiers remained focused. If ever there was an unsung hero, it was this man who punched way above his size. Once again, playing as a team, playing for each other, superb gees and dogged determination led to excellent rugby by a team that makes its coaches justly proud. 25 U19C RBHS 11 PAUL ROOS U19D 48 We always knew it was going to be a tough fixture away at Paul Roos. It was a fresh morning and the boys knew the warmup was going to be vital to the outcome of the day. We got off to an amazing start scoring a try in the first 30 seconds. Capitalising off an early Paul Roos mistake, Keegan Stewart picked the ball up and ran through to score an incredible try. Unfortunately, we were unable to convert the try, leaving us 5-0 up. We were then put under pressure in our own half and conceded a penalty. The Paul Roos kicker took advantage to make the score 5-3. We bounced back with Yasin Hartley converting two penalties to take the score to The boys confidence grew as the game went on. Unfortunately, just before the half time whistle, we conceded a try and went into half time only one point up, The second half got off to a bad start with Paul Roos scoring an amazing try to put them ahead. The team tried as hard as they could after this; but there was just no answer to the constant attack - and the pressure kept building. We had our opportunities in their half, but converting was just too difficult. We kept leaking tries and just could not stop them with regular substitutions. It was an awesome first half but we can t play a game of one half. We lost

U19E (Flyers) RBHS 24 PAUL ROOS U19F 10 This was our first game back this term as Stellenberg were not able to host a 5 th team. As coaches, the lack of match practise was certainly foremost in our minds. So we had a hard week s worth of training. Come match day the boys were eager to claim their first elusive win over a strong Paul Roos U19 age group. With our new general in command, Ryan Leatherby at flyhalf, this was, undoubtedly, the strongest side that we ve put on the park all season. We started the match like a house on fire with Leatherby brining great width to our game. Our star players from last season, Julian Banks and Gareth Probert, dominated the upfront battle against a very physical Paul Roos pack. Great interplay between forwards and backs culminated in the Flyers best team try of the season with George Du Plooy finishing off expertly in the corner on the team s behalf. The second try was a breathtaking solo effort by Banks who ran it in from the halfway line. But our Man of the Match went to our newcomer and French signing, Theo Collet, who was everywhere on the park. His work rate and pure determination to play for the Boschy tree, on debut, left him a Flyer for life and a player to watch out for in the remaining three games. Paul Roos scored a soft lineout try on the stroke of half time. The second half started poorly with a lapse in concentration leading to another soft try for Paul Roos. However, on the day, the Flyers were too classy for a strong Paul Roos side. With the final score 24-10, this was, without a doubt, the Flyers best win of the season. With three games left in the season the Flyers are on the verge of something wonderful. For this special group of players in the squad the sky s the limit. We look forward to playing against a strong Wynberg 4 th team. This could be our toughest fixture of the season; but the boys are most definitely up for the challenge. KYLE GRACEY

U16A RBHS 16 PAUL ROOS 26 Taking on the Maroon Machine out in Stellenbosch is never easy but the U16A side was up for the challenge. A week where preparation was disrupted by illness and injury was made all the better when the side that ran out left nothing in the locker room. A tight opening 15 minutes saw no movement on the scoreboard; but a few errors in defence saw Paul Roos score a long range try and, along with a few penalties, they raced out to a 16-6 lead at half time. It was very much a case of believing we only needed two tries to get back in the match, instead of preventing the dam wall from breaking. Bosch gained ascendancy early in the second half with Kelian Cattaneo darting over in the corner. The forward pack started to assert themselves on the tiring opposition. Replacement hooker, Lukhanyo Vokozela scored after a remarkable 30 metre lineout drive. Scores were locked at with mere minutes to go. Paul Roos were awarded a penalty, moments after the kickoff, which was converted to restore a three point lead for the hosts. A five minute period of relentless attack by Bosch, who opted to go for victory instead of a draw, saw players being stopped mere inches from the tryline. This prevented what would have been an unlikely victory. Cruelly, moments later after a lineout error, Paul Roos crossed for their second try to put the game to bed. PIETER BENADE

U16B RBHS 8 PAUL ROOS 17 The boys ran out onto a cold Paul Roos field on Saturday 28 June. The first half saw us camped within the opponent s half. Despite conceding a try early on, we managed to put it behind us and cross over the line ourselves - Corbett Strydom muscled over in the corner. Hlomla Ncana gave us a narrow lead, through a well taken conversion just before half time, to make the score 8-5 at the break. Unfortunately for us, it was a game of two halves. The same pressure we had placed on Paul Roos they piled back on us. The boys did very well to defend and absorb pressure but, in the end, it was too much for us. We conceded two late tries, shattering our hopes of a win. The boys put in a massive effort in terms of attitude, unfortunately we just weren t clinical enough on attack. 31 U15A RBHS 7 PAUL ROOS 43 We were taught a rugby lesson in Stellenbosch on Saturday by the maroon machine. A wayward pass into our own in-goal area set the tone for an indifferent morning from a Bosch perspective. Credit to Paul Roos for the way that they played. Their hunger was evident from the kickoff and, for 50 minutes, they contested every breakdown, lineout and set-piece. Our scrums were probably the only highlight of the day as we more than held our own in this department. Our kicking out of hand let us down and chips into nowhere resulted in two Paul Roos tries. Paul Roos got a 14 point cushion from Bosch errors, which left us with a mountain to climb. They attacked relentlessly and added a third try within 15 minutes, On half time, Bosch had Paul Roos pinned in their half and appeared to have scored. The referee saw it differently and awarded Bosch a five metre scrum. From this set-piece, Paul Roos took a tighthead and scored an 80 metre breakaway try, Harsh words were spoken over water, as we clearly were not performing to our potential. However, it was not to be as Paul Roos continued where they had left off, adding a further three tries in the second half. At the death, Bosch did score a good try after a great break by Connor Davis. Nur Gabriels added the conversion from the touchline to make the final score, The Bosch boys will have to show some character, dig deep and come out fighting against Wynberg, next week. 32 U15B RBHS 27 PAUL ROOS U15C 8 Last weekend, the Bosch boys took on Paul Roos in Stellenbosch and it turned out to be the highlight of the season thus far. We had a late 11 o clock start, aided by perfect weather conditions. The instructions to the team were to stick to the outlined structures and simply have fun. We had the best week, in terms of preparation, and the boys grafted really hard at training. This was a game that they really wanted to win. One of the key factors on the day was our defence. For it is through the defensive efforts of a side that they display their attitude. Our boys defended like true warriors. Our driving maul has been another key strength this season. From a penalty five metres out, we got on the board through Adam Campbell doting the ball down behind the tryline, 5-0. The second try, was just simple basics and we were able to expose Paul Roos out wide. The backs showed their class, allowing Muhammad Galvaan to score in the corner, Paul Roos managed to sneak in a penalty, opting for the points from right in front, On half time, Paul Roos managed to score making for a two point game, The message at half time centred around controlling the possession and backing ourselves on defence. From a lineout we scored again, this time through quick thinking by Zeeshaan Galiem. He opted to go blind and put out a flat pass to Galvaan on the wing, The boys realised that the game was theirs for the taking. As Bosch held onto most of the possession in the second half, penalties started coming our way. From a brilliant set-piece, Michael Stronach managed to break the line to score under the poles, With three minutes left in the game, Bosch got a penalty and Galvaan found a good touch, five metres out. The forwards again set the maul up, allowing Adam Campbell to score his second try, Credit really needs to go to the whole side. They all played for the jersey and sealed a great victory for Bosch. 34 U15C RBHS 51 PAUL ROOS U15D 0 Saturday will be a great Rondebosch rugby memory for this group of boys as they arrived to play their first fixture of the term against the powerhouse of schoolboy rugby. Paul Roos are always a formidable opponent, so beating them in Stellenbosch, in such an emphatic manner, was no small feat. The boys controlled and dominated the game from the first few minutes. Michael Wright-Joubert scored a brilliant 60 metre try, using the pace for which he has recently become known. Josh De Lucchi and Tristan Arends each scored a try while Thomas Joubert and Ben Barney Cowan each scored a brace of tries. Nicholas Wessels was impressive with the boot to aid the team in amassing 51 unanswered points. A mention must be made of the boys not conceding any points, despite a spell of significant pressure on their tryline in the second half. Joubert was awarded Man of the Match for the second consecutive fixture. JACK PURCELL

U15D RBHS 13 PAUL ROOS U15E 24 The venue for this phenomenal encounter was Paul Roos Oval 1 field. Bosch began really well, scoring two early tries through wingers Razeen Gamildien and Connor Peddie, which took the score to The boys defensive efforts were outstanding and they managed to prevent Paul Roos from scoring on multiple occasions. We clearly had the upper hand against the hosts early on. However, the Bosch side struggled to convert any of their possession into points. Due to our silly mistakes, Paul Roos was able to score two tries and convert one of them. At the break, this made the scores in their favour. The second half was tightly contested with both sides showing amazing character on defence, neither allowing the other to score. Newcomer, Ben Day, showed great leadership and heart throughout the game, setting up numerous attacking platforms for the rest of the team. With 10 minutes to go, James Nel slotted a penalty to give Bosch the lead. With the scores locked at 13-12, anything could happen. Paul Roos showed patience and good skill to cross over for another two tries taking the win right at the end. It was a very disappointing result for the U15Ds as I felt that we were our own enemies on the day. Despite the result, it was really good to see the boys play right up until the final whistle. It is also extremely positive to see that they enjoyed themselves on the field as that is what we strive for each week. We look forward to what the next few weeks have install for us. We have the talent and skill to get that Triple Crown. TRIES: PENALTIES: MAN OF THE MATCH: Razeen Gamildien, Connor Peddie James Nel Ben Day ZAK SALLIE

U14A RBHS 20 PAUL ROOS 0 On Saturday 28 July, Rondebosch travelled to Stellenbosch for what has always proven to be one of the toughest encounters on the rugby calendar. The U14As played the proverbial dew sweeper and thus were greeted with a cold and dewy Doornbosch field. Bosch were looking to bounce back from last weekend s tough loss, but getting the result at the schoolboy rugby powerhouse that is Paul Roos is never an easy task. The boys were extremely excited for this epic contest. Rondebosch received the kickoff and, after some patient play by the forwards, were awarded a penalty just behind the halfway line. Captain and flyhalf, Jacques Jooste, put his team deep into the opposition 22m to set up a rolling maul. The maul, being something of a weapon for the u14as this year, saw Jamie Ricketts, having just made the switch from backline to forwards, crash over in the corner to make it 5-0. No more points were scored in the remainder of the first half; but some brilliant defence and tactical play by Rondebosch meant that the boys went into half time with a well deserved 5-0 lead. After just three minutes in the second half, Bosch again piled on the pressure with a brilliant scrum, which led to eighth man, Gareth Blackmore, crossing the whitewash to put Bosch into a 10-0 lead. It was a great start to the second half! With eight minutes to go, it seemed that the dream of a Bosch victory was finally starting to become a reality. Some slick handling by Jooste saw a skip pass find winger Josh Wilkinson who finished brilliantly, beating two defenders on his way to score in the corner.

It seemed as though Paul Roos couldn t quite exit their 22m, as the educated boot of Jooste kept the pressure on time and time again. With the final whistle beckoning, Bosch wanted more. Another brilliant maul by the forwards ended in a fourth try of the day, scored by elusive tighthead prop, Mark Mansvelt. The score read It was a complete and dominant display with Bosch the deserved winners on an unforgettable day for the boys and all involved. Congratulations to everyone! 39 U14B RBHS 30 PAUL ROOS U14C 0 We had a good training week and we pleaded with the boys to back themselves and stay away from N1 fever. Our match was played in near perfect rugby conditions at, arguably, the home of SA high school rugby. We started off perfectly, dominating in the set and loose play, and enjoyed good possession. Paul Roos could not live with our intensity and structures, and the Bosch Brigade scored three wellworked tries in the first half. Our kicker left his kicking at home, but we led 17-0 at the break. The coaches gave the boys a good HT team talk and we knew that letting this one slip would be disastrous. There was no need for concern as the Bulldogs upped the tempo even further in the second half, leading to another two tries and a penalty. We scored 30 unanswered points. It was massive. The belief in our ability was there for all to witness.

However, the biggest smile came from the Bulldogs unwavering defence, late in the match, when Paul Roos camped on our tryline and Bosch were determined to satisfy our objective of not letting the Maroon Boys score a single point on their home turf. Well done boys! We can take a lot from that solid physical defence - and Nkosinathi Volmink, what a tackle! The Big-Lick tackle award this week goes to Liam Clavaux - what a hit. Our weekly Tornado Award goes to Lihlumelo Ncwana for a superbly mobile and physical all round performance, which included one try. As we move into our last three matches, with a Triple Crown at stake, we have earmarked this week as massive in preparation for a good Wynberg side at Lovers Lane. Without stating the obvious, it s payback time, big time. TREVOR KING U14C RBHS 19 PAUL ROOS U14D 31 At the beginning of the season I would never have predicted that I would be upset at having failed to beat Paul Roos. Having been up at half time, and with the score with 12 minutes to play, our chance at grabbing a victory was real. We dominated the first 10 minutes of the second half, but we just could not find a way to finish off our pressure and this allowed Paul Roos to score two late tries. Both tries were scored from their own 22, which highlights the fact that we really were pushing for the win. At the end of the day this was an improved performance. The boys really need to take some of the belief from this showing into the final three derby games of the year. TRIES: Robert Walker (3) CONVERSIONS: Andrew Botha (2) DAVID VAN DER LINDE

U19A RBHS 22 WYNBERG 24 We had another very focused week of hard training and felt confident going into the Wynberg game. It was fantastic to have Zain Davids handing out the jerseys and nailing some key aspects that the Blitz bokke focus on, which are so relevant to our team. We started poorly by missing the first two tackle attempts, but recovered well to put some good phase play together. This led to a well-worked try for debutant, Daniel Wells, in the corner, which was converted by Ross Stone. Then, just three minutes later, after an excellent exit kick by Stone and a great chase by Wells, he then pressured the Wynberg fullback into an error, after a quick throw in. Wells grabbed the ball to dive over for his second try! For the rest of the first half, both teams showed resolute defence and the play was to and fro. But, what concerned us was that the Wynberg territory game was controlling our position a lot more than was comfortable. We were also struggling to exit as clean as we would like. We had one more opportunity deep in their half but knocked on. However, after a strong scrum on their feed we earned a three pointer in front of the poles, which Stone knocked over. Wynberg had also earned the same a few minutes before resulting in a 15-3 half time lead for us, but with a long way to go.

We were aware of the need to score first in the second half. From the kickoff, Johan Strauss ran an excellent hard line to punch straight through their defence and carry us deep into their territory. But a forced off load gifted them possession and, after a good kick downfield and recovery of possession, they eventually broke our tryline defence to score in the corner and convert. Off our kickoff, we again made three errors that allowed them to end up attacking deep in our half. They eventually converted the sustained pressure into another seven pointer. Then we had a good opportunity when captain Justin Reynolds got to within a metre, released got up and dived over the line. The touch judge gave it the thumbs up but after talking to the ref the try was disallowed. Ten minutes later, after an excellent maul and a beautiful weighted pass from Johan Strauss, Jordan Collier stepped outside his man and offloaded to Thoubaan Gabriels who ran a great line, onto his shoulder and then outpaced the desperate defenders to score under the poles. Jaco Barnard converted this time. The score was with about ten minutes left. My message was to not force anything so that we could maintain our pressure.

We had one more clear two on one opportunity when all that was required was a pass for a definite try. This would have put the game beyond Wynberg s reach but, unfortunately, as can happen in the moment, the pass was not made and we succumbed to Wynberg s better control of field position. They finished by scoring in the corner and, once again, converted to give them a two point lead. We had a few more minutes but could make nothing of it. It ended three tries apiece and the frustrating part is that it s the fourth game that we could have won but for a few poor decisions or executions. But on the whole our inability to control territory was the end of us. We will work hard to rectify this and end on a high when we play SACS and Bishops. 46 U19B (Soldiers) RBHS 17 WYNBERG 22 If ever there was a game that will be forgotten and committed to the deepest depths never to be raised again, it was this loss to the lads from Lover s Walk. Wynberg were first on the board with an unconverted try; but the Soldiers dominated the rest of the first half through some excellent runs - including one from the back from Keegan Mountjoy (15), Paul Ige (3) and captain, Reece van Eden (1). The scores were soon levelled when Jay Reiback (2) went over for his, by now, regular try, closely followed by a brilliant intercept from Oliver Daffarn (10). With Ige converting, the Soldiers went ahead 12-5, which was also the half time score. Up to this point, it had looked as if all cylinders were firing and that the second half would end in a successful invasion of the Hawthornden. But Wynberg had other plans. Three minutes after the restart, they levelled with a converted try. Four minutes later, they intercepted a Bosch pass to score under the posts and go ahead Playing catch up is never easy, but Mountjoy rounded off a movement to score in the corner. Ige missed the conversion but at there was still hope. Unfortunately, over eagerness crept in, passes were dropped, turnovers conceded and heads were lost when tempers started flaring. Wynberg defended their turf with all that they had and, three minutes from the end, took a penalty shot at goal to seal it at Up front, Matthew Cohen (7) won some excellent lineout possession, tackled hard and played his heart out. Reiback was his normal active self, centres Tiaan van Loggerenberg and Aidan Rooke let no one past them, Mountjoy brought attack from the last line of defence and scrum half, Marius Bluteau, sent his line away smoothly. A disappointed blue team walked off the Hawthornden. But it was immediately decided to enjoy an off Saturday, regroup and make sure SACS are sent home packing when they come and try to claim the Tinkie. 48 U19E (Flyers) RBHS 33 WYNBERG U19D 7 The boys headed into the month of August with the blissful sensation of knowing that we had just beaten Paul Roos. Needless to say, every boy rocked up to practice on Tuesday with a smile on their face. It turned out to be a messy start to the week as higher teams needed our players due to injury and other commitments. Nevertheless, Thursday came and, with a few positional changes and some new signings, the Flyers were looking stronger than ever. From the start, we got it into the boys heads that it wasn t going to be easy as we were playing a team above us. From the getgo, they never let us down. They showed great tenacity on attack and hunger on defence. We scored the first five points of the game by means of slick hands and unselfishness from the backline, which allowed our right wing, Liam Steyn, to dot down in the corner. It was only a downhill battle from there for us, the lads never lacked in concentration and showed flaring rugby all around the park. Great tactical kicking from Rhys McBeth led to most of our tries; and a special mention must go to Timothy Kelly for finally scoring the intercept try that he s been dreaming of all season and for securing not only our lead, but also a hat-trick. The Flyers have a very well deserved rest this weekend, though also good time to prepare for our remaining two games - the two teams which are, arguably, our biggest matches of the year. 49 U16A RBHS 18 WYNBERG 27 Having come close to stealing a victory against Paul Roos a week earlier, the boys were keen to use that momentum and topple the highly fancied Wynberg outfit. Playing on the Hawthornden at 10 am, the scene was set for Bosch to upset their hosts and record a famous victory. As the first half transpired, things seemed to go exactly according to plan for the brave U16As. Using the rolling maul effectively, and Kian Davis finding great field position, Bosch raced to a 10-0 lead. This was through prolonged pressure, which led to a try by William McDonald, and a conversion and penalty by Davis. However, Wynberg fought back, against the run of play, to close the gap to 10-5 just before half time.

Having squandered one last opportunity just before the break, Bosch still felt they were playing good rugby and had enough in the tank to put their hosts under more pressure. However, if ever there was a game of two halves, this was it! Bosch only managed to score eight points in the second half, through a try by Sebastian Bauriedl and another penalty from Davis. Wynberg, however, managed to rack up four tries, which amounted to 22 points, and secure a well fought victory. Bosch simply struggled to get into the game in the second half and, with Wynberg having more possession and opportunities to unleash their backline, it made a difficult half for the men in blue and gold. Having been so comfortable at half time, it was a disappointing finish from Bosch. With two fixtures left, this team will no doubt keep working hard and keep striving for that derby victory against one of the Southern Suburbs rivals. JOSH CAREW

U16B RBHS 5 WYNBERG 21 After a loss in the first game of the season, the boys ran out onto the field looking to put in a better performance against Wynberg. After a good start to the game, Wynberg broke the deadlock. We looked solid in defence but unfortunately conceded penalties for offsides and holding on, while on attack the boys would put in a solid string of phases only to lose composure when we got anywhere near to the tryline. The highlight of the first half came close to the break where a breakdown in a Wynberg counterattack resulted in Hlomla Ncana running in a 60 metre try, giving us real hope going into the second half. The second half, although not clinical, was a gutsy performance from the boys; I m extremely proud of their hard running, determination, and a huge defensive effort. But alas, for all that effort, we had very little tangible evidence of a tight, fiery game, simply because we couldn t take opportunities. About the end result I will say this though: it s strange to walk off a field having lost by 16 points, with 15 boys grinning from ear to ear, sharing stories of camaraderie, bravery and teamwork. It made me feel as though we as coaches had done our jobs well. TRIES: Hlomla Ncana MICHAEL PALFRAMAN

U15A RBHS 22 WYNBERG 15 Wynberg clearly fancied their chances, opting to have a crack at Bosch on their 1 st team field. Bosch, however, were eager to put the Paul Roos disappointment behind them and were fired up for the encounter. Much hard work had gone into practice, in the preceding week, and the anticipation was palpable in the Bosch warmup. The boys in blue started strongly with Daniel Kalell and Damian Lewis prominent in making inroads with powerful carries. Max Orgovanyi beautifully put Jibreel Obaray into space and our flyer outstripped the defence, touching down in the left hand corner. Orgovanyi nailed the conversion from the touchline, 7-0. Wynberg came back into the game after a period of sustained pressure, eventually scoring from a lineout, 7-5. Bosch continued to carry the ball at every opportunity and Connor Davis got us close with a classy break. From the next set-piece, Nur Gabriels ghosted through untouched to score near the uprights. Orgovanyi again added the conversion, Wynberg opted for points from a penalty, 14-8, which was cancelled out by Orgovanyi, on half time, Over water, the conversation centred around pressurising their set piece and continuing with our attacking game. We were heavily penalised throughout the match and a final penalty tally of 14-4, in favour of Wynberg, certainly kept them in the game. In the closing minutes, Wynberg scored a well-worked try to bring them within four points, However, Bosch was not going to let this one slip. Connor Davis, playing with a sprained ankle, scored in the left hand corner to make the final score Bosch fully deserved the win and we look forward to hosting SACS on our main field, in a fortnight. 53 U15B RBHS 7 WYNBERG 19 Last weekend, Bosch took on Wynberg in a traditional derby game. We did not get the outcome that we wanted and Wynberg fully deserve their victory. They were hungrier on the day and the Bosch boys let themselves down. Playing Wynberg on their home turf is always difficult - and the home side certainly lifted their game. The first half was a very scrappy affair and the Bosch boys lost their structure and composure. Unfortunately, we could not keep our cool and that is how they dismantled our team. Wynberg were first to score from a lovely set piece, picking and going until, eventually, our defence cracked. Carlos da Costa got Bosch on the board with a piece of individual brilliance, scoring under the posts for Muhammad Galvaan to convert, 7-7. In the second half, Wynberg just wanted it more. They utilised every opportunity that came their way and scored two further well-worked tries. From a Bosch perspective, it was a very disappointing outcome and it is back to the drawing board. We have a break this week before taking on SACS at home. Hopefully, the boys can turn it around and get the win. TRIES: CONVERSIONS: Carlos da Costa Muhammad Galvaan KEENAN KLEINSMITH

U14A RBHS 12 WYNBERG 11 On Saturday 4 August, Wynberg hosted Rondebosch for the return fixture of this famous Southern Suburbs derby. Having lost to Wynberg by a comfortable margin back in April, the Rondebosch U14A boys were keen to show just how far they have come as a team this season. An eight o clock kickoff on the Silverhurst C Field, in the pouring rain, meant that a real war of attrition would ensue and that it would be very close on the scoreboard. Wynberg struck the first blow as they kicked a penalty to take an early 3-0 lead in the third minute of the match. Rondebosch struck back, six minutes later, as our much lauded rolling maul pushed Wynberg 15 metres back before Graeme Pedegana dotted the ball down to make it 5-3 in our favour. A bit of a territorial battle brewed in the middle stages of the first half. Rondebosch seemed to keep the ball better and continually probed with the rolling the maul. Wynberg capitalised on a dropped ball in the midfield and ran nearly 80 metres to take an 8-5 lead going into the interval. As in the first half, Wynberg converted another penalty into three points, pushing their lead up to With the loss of captain and flyhalf, Jacques Jooste, Rondebosch changed tactics slightly and decided to monopolise possession and keep it in the forwards. Wynberg did not have any answers to the Rondebosch rolling maul as we mauled them close to the line once more. Pedegana crashed over for his second try of the day in the thirteenth minute of the second half, before stand-in kicker, Jamie Ricketts, slotted the conversion to give Rondebosch the lead for the first time in the match, Wynberg did not see much of the ball or possession in the second half. Rondebosch earned a penalty straight after the try and decided to kick for touch and use the maul, yet again. Wynberg could not legally find a way to stop our maul as we earned penalty after penalty taking us closer to their line. The final whistle blew and Rondebosch won by one point.

The score line does not necessarily tell the full story of the match. Rondebosch showed huge character and composure to cope with the loss of three players in the game, due to concussion. A dominant, disciplined display by the Rondebosch pack and starving Wynberg of the ball really did mean that they did not threaten our line often. Congratulations to all of the boys and coaches! Thank you to everyone for their support of the U14A team. TRIES: Graeme Pedegana (2) CONVERSIONS: Jamie Ricketts JACO ZEEMAN

U14B RBHS 7 WYNBERG 19 We had our best training week of the year and we were ready to repay Wynberg for putting 50 points on us, at home, in our first match of the year. We started off perfectly sharing possession with Wynberg. Against the run of play, Bosch scored a lovely break away try from a chip kick. We led 7-0. Wynberg fought back and scored a 50/50 try on the corner flag line. It was 7-7 at the break. Wynberg rallied and came strongly at us throughout the second half with aggressive forward play and fast skilful backline play. They made full use of the penalty count and scored two more tries to end with a 19-7 victory. We had improved significantly from the first match - but that s scant consolation because on another day we all agreed that we could have beaten them. We also had to contend with three of our players playing for the A side due to unfortunate concussions at various stages of their match. The Big-Lick tackle award this week goes to Matthew Williams. Our weekly Tornado Award goes to our mongrel hooker, Joshua Berry, for a superbly physical defensive performance where he tackled way above his weight all match. As we move into our last two matches, we have a bye week in which to regroup before SACS pays us a visit. We will need to be at our best to beat them again. However, our boys don t really realise how good they are when it all comes together. TREVOR KING

U14C RBHS 0 WYNBERG 33 The return fixture against Wynberg is always the first opportunity of the year to gauge our progress. At first glance the scores in the two games were very similar. However, in terms of performance, they were miles apart. In the first game, Wynberg mistakes kept the score lower than it otherwise could have been. On Saturday, we fought manfully throughout and forced Wynberg to score good tries. We kept the ball much better on attack and held our structure in a way that seemed impossible in the first game. Sometimes we have to admit that the other side was very good. To give some context, the Wynberg coach, who has coached U14C for many years, told me that he believed that some of his players would play A team in another year, but that their depth is simply excellent this year. My only hope is that the boys understand that in order to catch these guys up, we have to work so much harder than we already are. Because it would really be a shame if we weren t trying to catch them up. The only way to make Boschie great again is through hard work and determination. DAVID VAN DER LINDE

U19A RBHS 29 SACS 24 In our last home match, the lads, for some inexplicable reason, just did not pitch up. We had a fantastic training week with less load and volume but short bursts of high intensity. But in the warmup I could see that most of them looked asleep! I warned them to do something to wake up before kickoff. However, we did still start with a fantastic maul try, which Connor Van Eden (back from a bronze at the Youth Touch Rugby World Cup) slotted from the corner. Our lineouts were operating so well but, other than that, we looked lethargic. We almost could not do anything without mistakes and in contact and at the breakdown we were soft. So, we allowed SACS to strike back with two tries, using their very dangerous game of inside runners and unexpected pick and go s through the ruck; even though we had prepared well for this. To give credit to SACS, they have had a tough season in our very competitive league but actually play a lot of very good rugby and are threatening in all areas.

Then, at 12-7, one of our players tipped one of the opposition, after the referee had already awarded us a penalty. Although in the past we have seen a yellow given against us for worse, on this occasion a red card was dealt, which was understandable. Perhaps the player was just frustrated. It can happen to all of us - but it cost us. With about 20 minutes still to go in the first half, and now playing with 14 men for the rest of the game, the situation was grim. Then it got worse as we let SACS score twice more - the last one just at half time. We went into the break trailing After a stern half time conversation, from the kickoff we recovered the ball and played like a different bunch of animals. Like the beasts I know that they can be. It was not pretty, and for some reason it was not even particularly well-constructed, but it was crucially a lot more brutal, energised and a lot less error ridden. We scored first and we needed to go do so again, which we did and Van Eden slotted another vital conversion from the corner. At 24-19, we needed another one without them scoring. As obvious as it sounds, any score by SACS, with us only having 14 men, could just take it a reach too far. As we knocked on off the kickoff, SACS got their opportunity as they attacked on our line over the next five minutes; but the lads stood firm and defended their Bosch legacy. Certainly, one of the things that the boys have proved this year, besides the fact that our defensive system works, is that they are very competitive and are not prepared to just lie down. We earned seven points by not allowing SACS to score; and then went on to score seven of our own through a chip and regather - a 14 point swing and a two point lead at 26-24, with just under 10 minutes left.

This time, we exited from the kickoff and went right down to their line to earn a penalty with two minutes on the clock. The boys decided on points to give us a five point lead. The only issue now was the kickoff. We couldn t give it to SACS as that could offer them one final opportunity. They went with a switch kickoff but crucially knocked on in the contest. Now, with time up on the clock, it was just one more big scrum with hooker, Jay Reiback, who had done very well scrumming at tighthead for the last 20 minutes. It was a genius idea from Charlie Post to bring him on early in the second half for David Ige, who was struggling with an injury. Reiback offered a significant and much needed energy injection. We held our breath but the scrum, the strike, the pass and the clearance were all clean. The final whistle went, ending what was probably one of the biggest comebacks on the Tinkie Heyns. I was so proud that the boys showed what they can achieve. My last wish for them is that they turn on for both halves, against our biggest rivals, and thereby prove to themselves what they are capable of as a collective over 75 minutes. Unfortunately, our tackling let us down and executing final phases of set-pieces was our downfall in the end. The boys fought hard and, regrettably, we could not come away with a win this weekend. 65 U19E (Flyers) RBHS 24 SACS 7 This was our penultimate match of the season and the last home game. The Flyers aimed to end on a high note on the hallowed fortress field that has become a bit of a second home to many of the boys. We started superbly and in the first five minutes had all of the possession and territory. However, one set play later and our general and star player of the season, Joshua Venter, suffered a horrific leg injury breaking both his tibia and fibula. He went down like a house of cards and before anyone even knew what had happened that was his season over. Seeing a fellow Flyer break his wings just before Bishops was enough to bring a few players to tears. However, after a lengthy delay due to the injury and a field change, the game was back on track and the Flyers played for Venter. We dominated the first half and went into the break with a comfortable 17-0 lead. The second half was a scrappy encounter and, with the SACS team knowing that the game was lost, tensions started to rise. Credit must go to our utility player, James Probert, for keeping his cool after receiving a head butt that would ve sent most players into a psychotic rage. Probert has been a fine asset to the Flyers side this season. His self-discipline was commendable and exemplifies the Flyers values. Tries were exchanged, later in the second half, and the final score was 24-7 to Rondebosch. It was another good win for the Flyers and we remain unbeaten for the second half of the season. The Man of the Match award went to Joshua Van Rhyn for a workmanlike performance. His physicality and ball carrying ability has contributed immensely to the Flyers success this year. With one last game for many of the boys in the blue and gold jersey, against the old enemy Bishops, there is plenty to play for. 67 U16A RBHS 34 SACS 14 After a few weeks of showing glimpses of the sort of performance that they might be capable of, last week the U16A side put in a solid 60 minutes at a pace and intensity that SACS could not match. Having lost 16 of their previous 16 Southern Suburbs matches since joining the High School, time was running out to register an elusive win before joining the senior ranks. The forwards, who have been the strength of the side over the last couple of weeks, controlled the lineouts and scrums. Constant defensive pressure got us good field position, which led to an early try by Lukhanyo Vokozela. Shortly afterwards, Ferdi Erasmus touched down after a 50 metre run, before Will McDonald scored from a five metre lineout drive to take Bosch into a 19-7 half time lead. A penalty by captain, Kian Davis, who was controlling the game nicely with his boot, put Bosch three scores clear. A clever crosskick by Davis saw Thomas Probert score in the corner. The touchline conversion took the score to Although SACS struck back with a try of their own, the game was put to bed when Hlomla Ncana sprinted 35 metres to score in the corner, taking the score out to It was a convincing win and something that many feel was deserved to a group of very hardworking boys. 68 U16B RBHS 21 SACS 24 The past week was a good one in terms of training. Although the long weekend knocked us a bit, we ended the week well. The boys ran out confidently against SACS on Saturday and it showed. We spent plenty of time in the opposition half and looked like the more dominant team. Unfortunately, a few lapses in concentration meant that we conceded as often as we scored - the teams trading tries throughout the game. The boys put in a good performance, working hard for every metre. The final 10 minutes were extremely exciting: Bosch on the attack three points down, looking as if they would break through. Unfortunately, it wasn t to be, as SACS held us out to the last minute. As coaches, we are really proud of the way that the guys have progressed this season. They take ownership of their own performances and have bought into a performance over result ethos. We are hardly ever discouraged at practice and we ve only won three games this season - that s crazy. The boys are full of banter and laughs and almost always try their best in matches. As we approach this last game I expect the boys to be fired up; we want to play well against Bishops. 69 U15A RBHS 22 SACS 15 An opportunity to play on the hallowed Tinkie Heyns field beckoned and a beautiful spring morning welcomed the boys in blue onto the park. Bosch started strongly, immediately taking the fight to the opposition. From the start, we put SACS under pressure; we dominated both the territorial and possession stakes for most of the first half. The Lorimer brothers were prominent, making early inroads into the SACS defence. From a set lineout move, captain, Cameron de Kock, got us close and Johann Lorimer got over the line for Max Orgovanyi to slot the conversion, 7-0. SACS almost immediately, replied with a penalty, On the day, the Bosch set-pieces functioned with precision. Our statistics at the end of the game indicated a 100% lineout record (11/11), and we won four tightheads against the SACS scrum. The entire pack hunted brilliantly as a unit and, after an excellent build up, Brandon Jones crossed the whitewash, On half time, we were caught napping, with no pillars and post in position at a ruck, which allowed a SACS forward to score, The talk over water centred around pressurising the opposition set-piece and being more patient on attack. A wayward chip, however, allowed a change of possession and SACS hacked the ball up field to score under the posts, At this point, our dominance in the game certainly did not reflect on the scoreboard. However, the Bosch boys took control up front with Dani Kovacs and Daniel Kalell leading the charge. After a period of sustained pressure, Kovacs got over for Orgovanyi to convert, There were some beautiful moments in the game, but not quite the complete picture. Bosch will have to be at their very best in taking on Bishops in the final encounter of the season. 70 U15B RBHS 17 SACS 5 After a tight affair in the away game earlier this year, the Bosch team knew that they would be in for another tough game. The SACS team, after losing the first game, came out with a point to prove, which was evident from a strong showing in the first five minutes. After this, Bosch started to come into the game and dominated possession. They boys had a few chances to score but, unfortunately, could not get the basics right and mistakes stopped them from crossing the line. As the game went on, Bosch identified the space at the back and started to pepper SACS with box kicks. This tactic worked well and soon we were on the scoreboard. We continued to dominate territory and possession; but mistakes still crept into the game and the boys struggled to turn the dominance into a comfortable lead. We scored late in the game and looked to have sealed the game but, once again, we let this lead slip, which resulted in a nervy, final few minutes. The boys showed a bit of mettle and Muhammad Galvaan went over the line, after another box kick, to secure the win. It was a good victory, which has set a solid platform for Bishops week. BYRON BOWES U15C RBHS 54 SACS 0 The U15C team had a lot to prove coming up against a SACS side that narrowly beat them 7-5 in the previous fixture. Rondebosch was all over SACS in the first half, scoring within the first minute and entering half time 36-0 up. The second half started in the same fashion. Rondebosch stormed to half a century of points, before the game was called short by 15 minutes. Try scorers included Ben Cowan (2), Michael Wright- Joubert (2), Tristan Arends, Nicholas Williams and Josh Ancketill. The Rondebosch U15C team go into their Bishops fixture in a rich vein of form, having scored 180 points without conceding a single point. JACK PURCELL

U14A RBHS 20 SACS 6 On Saturday 18 August, Rondebosch hosted SACS for the return fixture of this highly anticipated Southern Suburbs rugby derby. The U14As had their work cut out for them as we went into this fixture having lost a couple of players to injury and having enjoyed a whole week of rest after a physical encounter against Wynberg. SACS kicked the ball straight into the hands of loose forward, Graeme Pedegana, off the kickoff. The pace and power that Pedegana possesses saw him charge down field and get close to crossing the whitewash. A couple of phases were put together before tight forward, Mark Mansvelt, crossed the tryline. Jacques Jooste slotted the conversion to give us a 7-0 lead in the third minute.

Jooste coordinated a well-worked exit play, which was followed by an excellent kick chase line from the Rondebosch men. SACS struggled to exit properly and kicked the ball straight into the hands of elusive fullback, Matthew Readhead. He stepped his way through the SACS defence before drawing and passing to winger, Josh Wilkinson, who crashed over in the seventh minute to give us a 12-0 lead. A few failed exits and lineout executions saw SACS fight their way back into the match with powerful one off forward runners. They earned two penalties that were converted to close the gap to 12-6 in the seventeenth minute. Rondebosch hit back after a couple of well-worked phases, which saw the ball shift to winger, James Palmer-Owen, who dotted down to make the score We had one more chance in their 22m area before the break, but failed to secure the lineout and went into the break with an 11 point lead. The second half was a frustrating experience for the Rondebosch men. Fantastic defence earned us the ball, but execution errors in key moments meant that we could not put together the complete performance that we were looking for. Jooste slotted a penalty with five minutes to go, which effectively put the game beyond doubt. The final whistle blew with Rondebosch victors at In spite of a fantastic result, the boys were not overly chuffed with their execution. 74 U14B (Bulldogs) RBHS 24 SACS 17 We were very ready to get a double over a very good SACS team on a beautiful, rugby morning, on our home ground. We started off perfectly with a magnificent run from our 15, Nkosinathi Volmink, from deep to score under the poles. We led 7-0. This was followed up with a team try after a tap penalty and we led 12-0 at the break. SACS regrouped and came strongly at us throughout the second half. They scored three devastating tries to lead with only three minutes left on the clock. It was now serious do or die time and an inspired team talk by the coaches followed. We then witnessed a magnificent comeback! Our plucky number 10, Joshua De Villiers, was very instrumental in getting the Bulldogs over the whitewash two more times in only three minutes. We had secured a victory. We achieved that without a few of our usual players and enduring injuries and replacements during the match itself. It was truly a thing of beauty to witness the strength of character from the boys - we coaches beamed with pride. The Bulldogs watched the Mike Tyson video on Friday after our session, and our training week motto for the SACS match was Believe and boy did our team do that in bucket loads. Well done gents! The Big-Lick tackle award this week goes to Big Joe. Our weekly Tornado Award goes to Volmink for yet another inspired performance. But the victory goes to each and every boy. We have a week to look forward to as we move into our last match of the year against Bishops on their iconic Piley Rees field. What a treat. Surely now, our boys realise just how good they are when it all comes together. TREVOR KING

U14C RBHS 15 SACS 46 Conditions for running rugby were perfect on Saturday. Unfortunately, SACS ran the ball very well and much better than we managed to. It is important to be realistic as SACS do have a very strong and athletic team who often beat us for pace on the outside. We also have to acknowledge that, while the teams attacking structure has improved immensely, too often we turn the ball over in contact through soft carries and poor ruck aggression. Our intensity on the field is something that has let us down all season. I hope that the final game against the old enemy will be enough motivation for the boys to get out there and improve on this aspect of the game, which is just so important. 79 U19A RBHS 10 BISHOPS 10 We had a fantastic buildup week and had some really good plans in place. We felt confident that we could end on a high. This confidence culminated in a meaningful jersey hand over by Josh Carew. He spoke about the Spanish explorer who had to make a decision to turn back with his 600 men or stay and fight against thousands to take the land. The explorer told his men to burn the ships so that there was no option of turning back. We used this theme of burn the ships for the game. We had to leave it all out on the field for 75 minutes, just once, which was something that we had struggled with for most of the season. I asked the boys to make themselves proud when they looked in the mirror at the end of the day.

The message from Charlie Post was to kick into the corner and obviously play in their 22 metre; the forwards were determined to pressure their lineouts. We did not quite stick to the game plan in terms of the kicking, but we did have opportunities to convert pressure to points but, at key moments, unforced errors just cost us. We were determined to stay upbeat. But then, off some positive Bishops play, they managed to sneak over in the corner again, when we did not defend the blind off a breakdown. This was another area that we have struggled to get right this season. The conversion missed, but this try hurt as they were playing into the wind. We continued to fight and got a well converted three pointer by Conor Van Eden in very challenging conditions. We followed this up a few minutes later with burly prop Seth Christian punching over from close range. Again, the conversion in these circumstances was not at all easy; but Van Eden nailed it to make it with one minute left on the clock.

From their kickoff, we held possession around the half way until Thoubaan Gabriels found some space down the touchline. He chipped over the cover defence, outpacing them, then managed to nudge the ball away from the touchline with his foot and into the dead ball area. Then he was pushed by the Bishops fullback before he could really chase down the ball. I have been asked many times if it wasn t a penalty try, I am not sure. Some referees would have given one but it was hard to say if it was a certainty. A yellow card for cynical play was a certainty but none was given. We kicked to touch and set up a maul which went down, I expected a penalty advantage for collapsing but none came. Again it was a tough call and to be fair it was not totally clear if they dropped the maul. But on we played. Again, the referee kept screaming to Bishops to take their hands out of every ruck. Again, we thought we may get some advantage - but none was given. The match ended when SA Schools flank, Mihlali Mgolodela, drove over the line. Some people started to celebrate, but the referee blew held up and game over. Everyone had contributed well. Captain, Justin Reynolds, and vice-captain, Johan Strauss, were immense all day and outplayed their opposition but it was not quite enough.

It was a strange way to finish. It felt odd. We felt a bit robbed; but, after reflecting, I guess it was our own unforced errors more than anything else that cost us the victory. However, we had given it our absolute all and needed to accept that that was enough for a draw on this day and not a victory. Thanks to each boy and parent for all of their effort in what was a challenging season in many respects. Virtually every game that we played was against very strong opposition. Some highs included playing a fantastic warmup game to unofficially outscore Outeniqua; winning all of our games at the St Stithians Festival; and playing some brilliant rugby to smash Maritzburg College. We caused a big upset by toppling Drostdy at home and the lads staged probably the biggest come back on the Tinkie Heyns by beating SACS with 14 men. The lows were narrowly losing to Bishops last term and to Wynberg by two points this term. But life lessons are learnt through highs and lows. I wish all of the Grade 11s all of the best next year and hope that they will carry some of the lessons learnt through to next season. To the Grade 12s, I hope that you will cherish some of the special times that we have had and carry forward the life lessons. Don t stop playing this great game because if you do, you ll have regrets when you re too old to play anymore. 88 U19B (Soldiers) RBHS 3 BISHOPS 9 The Soldiers season ended on a disappointing note in wind and rain on Piley Rees. It was a game where excellent defence by both sides, in extremely difficult playing conditions, resulted in no tries being scored and all of the points came from penalties. The Soldiers went ahead 3-0 after 19 minutes when Oliver Daffarn (15) put one through the sticks. This was also the score at the break and, sadly, the last time Bosch put anything on the board. Bishops replied with three penalties in the second half to take the win. It is not that the Soldiers did not try. Up front hard work by the tight five and some great tackling and foraging by the loosies was noticeable; while the midfield was, as usual, a solid wall of defence. Fifteen dejected Soldiers left the field. But, while the match and the score will be soon forgotten, the camaraderie, gees and friendships formed during the year will long remain. TOP GUN (MAN OF THE MATCH): Chulumanco Mputing JOHANN GERBER U19C RBHS 10 BISHOPS 14 With this being the last game of the season and a disappointing past two weeks, the boys were really keen for a good game. Having Jonathan Swanepoel back after his Water polo tour, we were hoping for some positive play. The first half started with both teams testing the water and really scared to make a mistake. The rain did not help, especially when the backline was looking to throw the ball around. We kept constant pressure on Bishops, but a lack of concentration and a really tough call led to Bishops scoring a try and going 7-0 up. We kept the pressure on and our forward dominance showed with great pick and drives. Eventually, we broke through for Swanepoel to score our first try. We went into the break 7-5 down.

The second half got off to a scrappy start and we conceded a try, From that point on, we took control of the game and we put all of the pressure onto Bishops. Our mauling was amazing and we pushed Bishops around the field. This led to our next try by Keagan Stewart, making the score for the last seven minutes. We kept the pressure on Bishops but we were just unable to cross the line for that winning try. By far this was the best game of the season with the boys all putting their bodies on the line. GARTH QUAITE

U19E (Flyers) RBHS 22 BISHOPS 0 Bishops, as always, was our last game of the season. A win and nothing less would take us from a good season to a great season. Without a doubt, the Flyers fielded their strongest side of the season and preparations were well made, with the boys really bringing their dedication and heart to the practises in the week. But on derby day anything is possible and, in slightly wet and windy conditions, the classic rugby cliché of Who wants it most? would determine the outcome. We started well and the educated boot of Rhys McBeth gave us the territorial advantage that we needed early in the game. It came as no surprise when Bishops tried to run everything out of there half. But dog-like defence from stand out player of the season, Joshua Van Rhyn, and the thief at the breakdown, Gareth Probert, working in tandem left Bishops struggling for both territory and possession. In the wet and windy conditions, the Flyers kept the ball tight amongst the forwards and all of the hard work at breakdown that we ve done during the season finally started to pay off. We stuck 15 phases together and, eventually, Ammaar Andrews crashed over the tryline. First blood was drawn, which gave the Flyers a much needed confidence boost against a strong Bishops 5 th team. As conditions worsened, the first half became a scrappy affair with plenty of knock ons. The Flyers led at the half time break, 7-0, but the game was still anyone s for the taking. In the second half, however, the Flyers started to flap their wings and, with the wind dying down on our backs, got more and more into the game. The cohesion between the forwards and the backs was accredited to our general at 10, Ryan Leatherby, who has brought great width and composure to our game.

The Flyers started to put on a show. Soon, they had their second try thanks to Joel Kruger who, once again, finished off a welldeserved team try. Then, within minutes, Flyers veteran, Andrew Allkin, sniped blind and beat two defenders before finally drawing and passing to late signing, Siyanda Ngxangane, who went over the line for a debut try. It was 17-0 with five minutes to play. With the game just about over, Probert made a telling intercept and ran a full 80 metres before he was roped in on the Bishops 5 metre. But, once again, the Flyers showed composure and class to steal the lineout for McBeth to score the try of the season on the buzzer. Three year veteran, Conor O Sullivan, in true Conor style, missed the kick in front of the polls to end the game at It truly has been a phenomenal season and we have produced some incredible results, achieving the Grand Slam and an elusive win over Paul Roos. We played 13 games, including a sevens match, of which we won 10, drew one and lost two. The Player s Player of the Season went to Probert, Player of the Entire Season went to Julian Banks and Player of the Second Half of the Season went to Joel Kruger. KYLE GRACEY

U16A RBHS 5 BISHOPS 15 The last game of the season against Bishops is always one of the highlights on the rugby calendar, and is often quite an emotional affair. With a good win against SACS just a week before, the boys were keen to finish their season on a high and topple an in-form Bishops outfit. With the conditions treacherous, which meant playing in the wind and rain, Bosch fancied their chances with the rolling maul and tactical boot of captain, Kian Davis, which had worked so well this year. When Bosch kept Bishops to only eight points in the first half, playing into the wind, spirits were high in the half time team talk; and a surprise upset was on the cards. With the wind at our backs now, the boys took to the field knowing that they d have their opportunity to get good field position and possession dominance. When Bosch seemed destined to close the gap having crossed the line, only for the try to be disallowed for double movement, it felt as though it just wasn t going to be our day. When Bishops scored again, against the run of play, to take the score line to 15-0, Bosch was racing against the clock in an attempt to score. Bishops, to their credit, defended like Trojans throughout the game, stopping the Bosch maul and tackling the Bosch attackers who came agonizingly close to scoring on numerous occasions. After extended periods of pressure, Kyle Blackmore managed to score a try to take the score to 15-5 with only a couple of minutes left on the clock. The game ended on 15-5, a match that Bosch probably deserved a bit more than the 10 point defeat. Whilst the result didn t go our way on Saturday, the growth and development of this squad has been immense throughout the year. The lads came agonizingly close on so many occasions and they definitely earned the respect of both opposition and spectators this season. I look forward to following the continued growth and development of these young men as they take the step up to senior rugby next year. JOSH CAREW

U16B RBHS 7 BISHOPS 45 For the last time in 2018, the boys took to the field in the hopes of getting a double over Bishops. I won t talk too much about the match here, unfortunately - it was dismal from start to finish. It was astounding to see us go out with such a whimper after a season of such progress and hard fighting even in loss. But, the fact is that we were utterly outplayed in every aspect of the game - they gave us the classic Bishops treatment like only they can. We did manage a try though, when Tristan Accom pounced on a mistake before half time. I feel bad for the boys; a win in the last half of the season would ve been fair reward for some decent performances. However, it wasn t to be, and we re all left looking back to that narrow loss to SACS thinking about what could ve been. (Bishops we ve probably forgotten about already, due to some PTSD related memory loss). We let ourselves down out there. But, as I ve said, the boys really enjoyed their rugby this season. It s been great being their coach and I m happy with the progress they ve made despite the hiccups. I wish them all the best for the future. 95 U15A RBHS 6 BISHOPS 17 Outscored by three tries to none, Bishops fully deserved their win on Saturday. Credit must go to the home side, as they were more clinical on the day. Bosch opted to play into the wind and rain in the first half, which meant that we had to control possession and keep the ball in hand. This was not to be. Bishops drew first blood, scoring after a defensive lapse, 5-0. Max Orgovanyi slotted a penalty to bring us back into the game, 5-3. From a Bosch perspective, it was a frustrating morning. We were guilty of building the pressure and then letting the opposition off the hook by losing possession. On half time, Bishops added a second forward try after a good line out maul, Over water, we laid out the plan for the second half. We wanted to use the wind to good effect and required greater domination up front. With the wind in our backs, we fancied our chances in the second half; but could only manage a further Orgovanyi penalty, With five minutes left on the clock, Bishops put the nail in the coffin by scoring a well-worked backline try, It was a disappointing last game for the boys in blue. To keep perspective though, it has been a very good season. The statistics indicate nine wins from 14 games with a draw and four losses. Much was learnt this season and the lessons banked. The boys have grown as a side and I am sure they are looking forward to their senior years representing Bosch. PENALTIES: Max Orgovanyi (2) NEIL TEUBES

U15B RBHS 9 BISHOPS 0 The last game of the season was upon us and it was the big one. Bishops is always a big game, but the second encounter always means a bit more as the winner comes away with bragging rights until the next year. After a heart-breaking last-minute loss in the first game, the Bosch boys were eager to get revenge. From the warm up this desire to win was evident and this carried on to the field. A deep kickoff and some passionate defence put Bishops under early pressure and mistakes eventually came, giving Bosch possession deep in their territory. Conditions were not conducive for running rugby and when, after an extended period of attack, a penalty was awarded in front of the sticks, Bosch didn t hesitate to take three points. This was smart rugby and the Bosch Intelligent Game at its finest. In the wet, the pack always has a big job to do and the Bosch pack were immense. They were dominant in every aspect of the game, providing front foot ball from set- pieces and in open play. A special mention must be made of the maul, which provided us with territory and the platform to play. The game continued to be scrappy with both defences standing up well. The second half continued in the same manner, with Bosch taking the territory or taking points from their penalties and Bishops trying to run at every opportunity. This was crucial in the end because, as hard as they tried, Bishops could not find a way to run through Rondebosch s resolute defence. The game ended 9-0 with all three penalties flying over off of the hooker Albertus Van Der Merwe s boot. Massive celebrations ensued to cap off what has been an amazing season. BYRON BOWES

U15C RBHS 10 BISHOPS 7 What a thrilling end to the season! The U15C entered the game in high spirits and in great form. The rain was pouring down and the boys were eager to seal the Triple Crown against their biggest rivals. Bishops were a lot better prepared for their home fixture and put up much more of a fight. Rondebosch took the lead early in the game by scoring a solid try, 5-0. Nicholas Wessels narrowly missed the conversion. Rondebosch spent the rest of the first half camped on the Bishops line without managing to convert their territory or possession advantages. Bishops started the second half well, rejuvenated from their solid defensive showing in the first. They scored and converted, 7-5. We continued to attack deep into their territory with the final whistle edging closer. Michael Wright-Joubert scored the winning try with four minutes to go - and the boys managed to hold on for a highly valued derby win. JACK PURCELL

U14A RBHS 15 BISHOPS 12 On Saturday 25 August, Rondebosch crossed Sandown Road to play our rivals, Bishops, in their own backyard in the final game of the season. The Rondebosch U14A team had it all to play for, as the infamous "Triple Crown" loomed large on a wet and windy morning on the Cemetery field. Jacques Jooste perfectly punted the ball into the Bishops 22 metre area straight off the kickoff. In these tough conditions, as one would expect, errors occurred in abundance as all and sundry were left frustrated in the first 10 minutes. Jooste knocked over a penalty to draw first blood. Rondebosch failed to exit effectively off the restart and a charge down had us pinned right in their 22 metre area. We held out for as long as we could and earned a scrum on their five metre line. Bishops took a tighthead and played the ball out to bulky centre, Bruce Sherwood, who dotted down in the corner to give Bishops a 5-3 lead in the sixteenth minute. Rondebosch probed and put phase after phase together as the Bishops boys defended resolutely. We were held up over the line and the referee blew the half time whistle as the visitors went in trailing at the break. Rondebosch struck back thanks to a period of sustained pressure. Giant loose forward, Graeme Pedegana, crossed the chalk with a strong carry five minutes into the second half. Jooste converted the try and the score read 10-5 to Rondebosch. Rondebosch tried to monopolise possession by keeping the ball in the forwards. As the penalty count reached 11-5 in favour of the hosts, it was once again Sherwood who shrugged off a first time tackler, after a quick tap in the Rondebosch 22 metre area, to score his second try of the match. The conversion was good and Bishops lead with six minutes left on the clock. It truly felt like Bishops had awoken a sleeping monster with their last try. The Rondebosch boys came out like demons possessed with the goal of winning this encounter. A big moment needed a big player and captain, Jooste, went on a rampaging 40 metre run, coming very close to scoring. The ball was worked wide and

substitute prop, Daniel Sweetlove, broke the line only to stop five metres short of the line. After the sustained pressure, it was tighthead, Mark Mansvelt, who stretched out his right arm to dot the ball down for the match winning try. Rondebosch won to secure the Triple Crown and effectively bury Bishops in the Cemetery in the final match of the season. The U14A boys had their fairytale finish to a magnificent season. 101 U14B RBHS 10 BISHOPS 5 On a cold and wet rugby morning, we were very excited and chomping at the bit to get a double over Bishops on the renowned Piley Rees A Field. Our time in the warm change room was memorable and the boys were ready to make the most of the opportunity. We correctly assumed that Bishops would pack their team with players who hadn t played against us last term - so a much better team awaited us. We started off well enough and were camped on the Bishops line for most of the first half, with the very strong wind and driving rain in our favour. We scored two unconverted tries. We missed chance after chance to score more tries because of poor decision making, poor passes and poor catching. The score at the break was 10-0 and the coaches were worried that it wasn t a sufficient lead. With the wind advantage being a massive factor, we told the boys that nothing else but intense defence would win it for us. Bishops took full advantage of the strong wind at their backs and ran very hard at us for most of the second half. Eventually, the Bosch dam wall broke and the boys in white scored a try right next to the poles, which, fortunately, was not converted. We tackled and defended like demons. Eventually, a fortunate mistake by our opposition in their 22 allowed us to launch wave after wave of attack. We camped on their line until the final whistle sounded with the boys in blue in ascendency. The relief and happiness was palpable. We had secured a 10-5 victory. It was so good to witness the strength of character on defence from the boys and everyone was relieved, happy and proud. Well done gents! These memories will last a long time. The last Big-Lick tackle award goes once again to Joseph Big Joe Mwandira. Our last weekly Tornado Award goes to one of our unsung heroes, Michael Anderson, for yet another massive performance in the lineouts and on defence.

We won eight out of 13 matches (62%), including a double over SACS and Bishops, and had a good win over Paul Roos. A big thank you to all of the players, coaches, parents and supporters. You have all contributed to a magnificent, memorable and very enjoyable rugby year. To the boys, it is so rewarding to see your unplugged and modest happiness. We are confident that many of you will achieve accolades and rewards as you continue your journey with Bosch rugby through the age groups. TREVOR KING

U14C RBHS 17 BISHOPS 0 It has been a long year. Perhaps for Bishops it has been even longer. Despite them managing a win in our first match, they had also had a torrid season. As difficult as it may be to believe, the weather was even worse than for the first game. The wind and rain made running creative rugby difficult. In these testing circumstances, however, the boys acquitted themselves far more manfully. We managed to put good line speed pressure on Bishops and scored some excellent tries from the resulting turnovers, with Shaakir Stellenboom and Robert Walker both running 60 metres plus for their scores. This was easily our most mature performance of the year and the boys did not let up their intensity and focus for a minute. I am extremely hopeful that, if the team remains together and continues working and playing as they have done recently, they will be able to turn around some of the results next year. Good luck boys! TRIES: Shaakir Stellenboom, Robert Walker (2) CONVERSIONS: Aluta Tunsi DAVID VAN DER LINDE
