We put in the hard yards and put our bodies on the line. We dominated the first half, while dominated the second half. When it came to the end of the match, the score was 1-1, resulting in 5 minutes of extra time each way. Neither side could convert any circle entries into goals. The match was now to be decided on P-flicks. This created a lot of tension between the players as well as the supporters. We all managed to slot each of our P-flicks into the back of the goals. It is ironic that the player, an ex-rondebosch player, missed his P-flick, resulting in Rondebosch going forward into the finals. Well done, guys! Let's focus on this last match. To the first team players - "C but I". Chris Day v The RBHS 1 st XI were looking to end off an unbeaten 2 nd half of the league with a victory over arch rivals.

The game started at the customary high pace with both teams looking to get in front early on. were awarded a debateable short corner after about ten minutes and converted, taking the lead 1-0. However, RBHS didn t panic and were soon creating chances of their own. Before half time, Chris Day scored a well taken goal set up by Byron Anthony and the teams went into the break on level pegging. The second half continued at a very high pace. RBHS started to come into their own and created chances. Another questionable short corner was awarded, which led to a well taken goal, giving them the lead. As the time wound down, RBHS started to dominate the game but were unfortunately not able to score. The game ended 2-1 to. A disappointing result for the side, as after a good season, it was heartbreaking to lose a game to our rivals, especially for the Matrics. However, with the knockout final ahead, there is still a lot to play for in the season. U19D v No match report received at time of publication. v Fairmont (WP U16 Knock Out) This knock-out game produced a good game of hockey with Rondebosch running out deserved winners 3-0. The U/16A side was determined to follow the other two Bosch sides into the finals of the knock-outs but Fairmont did not make it easy for the Bosch side. Rondebosch dominated most phases of the match but a vastly improved Fairmont side defended with heart and despite losing, came out of the match with much credit. Rondebosch generally distributed the ball well and after some good build ups, Craig Schoeman found the back of the net with a well drilled shot from a set phase. Having changed sides at 1-0 down, Fairmont tactically looked to counter with scraps of possession by playing the direct river ball. The one chance they had, was well shepherded by Jason Giger in goals. Rondebosch kept creating from the midfield but did not always take use of their opportunities. It was left to defender Kieryn Thompson, to take the few 11

minutes of opportunity up front, to score from a bouncing ball in the circle. This put the match beyond doubt. Zubayre Hamza was rewarded for his good work rate on the night with a cracking shot from the top D, after Ross Compton had created the penalty corner with some good skills. This was the last move of the match, against a very game Fairmont side. Mr. Lloyd Nel (Coach) v This was a typical derby encounter with both sides pulling out all the stops to claim the advantage over the other. Rondebosch played the style of hockey that has characterized the side this season. In the first ten minutes Rondebosch absorbed great pressure and it was the typical counter after great defence that sent Zubayre Hamza on his way to score the first goal, showing good individual skills to beat the goalkeeper. Rondebosch s pattern of play became more fluent and it was turn to absorb pressure, however they countered strongly in a five minute passage of play and lack of defensive marking in the Bishop s centre resulted in a Bishop creating, to cause a scramble in the circle and a short range shot gave Jason in goals, no chance. The team proved once again that here is a bunch of guys who rise to the occasion and the last five minutes of the half it was only Rondebosch. This pressure earned a penalty corner after some good work from Craig Schoeman. Kyle Herring stepped up and what he always gets right at practice he did in the match, dragging, to earn a well deserved goal. Rondebosch changed sides in the ascendancy, (2-1). The second half was a tense affair with both sides being equally matched. and Rondebosch had the same amount of penalty corners but Jason once again had a good game with a brilliant save, to deny the Bishop s SA representative, a goal. Rondebosch links started working well and the last five minutes Rondebosch took the game by the scruff of the neck to kill any hope of making a come-back. Final score Rondebosch 2, 1. The Bishop s coach, gracious in defeat, complimented the boys on having deserved it more than on the day. Rondebosch meet for the third time in the final of the knock-out. Both sides have the skill and it will be more a matter of who is more mentally focused and plays consistently to the game plan. There are a few areas that the boys have to sharpen up on at practice this week. Mr. Lloyd Nel (Coach) U16B v RBHS U16B vs U16B Saturday, 21 August 12

Venue: WPCC We dominated possession for most of the first half and had quite a few shots at goal - it was only a matter of time until we scored. Our first goal came from a well placed pass from Justin Kraak which surprised the defenders and found Craig waiting inside the D. The goalkeeper started running out but was too late and Craig pushed the ball under him and found the backboard. We knew that one goal was not enough and the team kept their concentration. Eventually, a mistake from in the D brought us a short corner. We decided to go for a drag flick and it turned out to be a good choice. Justin took the drag but with the keeper behind the ball, Riaz ensured us the goal with a good deflection into goal. Half time came with us two goals up. The second half continued in the same way as the first, with us dominating possession. started to play a little harder and our defence was tested but kept the ball out of the D. was awarded a short corner and unfortunately they found the goal. We kept our game up and the defence denied another goal until the final whistle blew. The whole team played very well and really deserved the victory of 2-1. Goals scored by: Craig Thomas and Riaz Sader Caelan Curry v No match report received at time of publication. U16D v No match report received at time of publication. U16E v Bye v Fairmont (WP U14 Knock Out) No match report received at time of publication. v No match report received at time of publication. v U14b had a fantastic game against, our last of the season. We started with real determination and were keen to avenge our 1-0 loss in the 2 nd term. After 15 minutes into the game we had shown great skill and teamwork 13

and were rewarded by going 2-0 up. This seemed to ignite the boys and they took control and got a goal back. Bosch turned at half time 2-1 ahead. Shortly after the break scored to level the scores. We feared the worst when shortly thereafter scored again to go 3-2 ahead. But our boys never gave up and with some determined play and fine skill we scored again to level at 3-3. The ebb and flow of the game made for a very exciting final minutes. scored after some poor defence on our side and moved 4-3 ahead. A few green cards on each side meant both teams had to fight hard to maintain composure. With 2 minutes to go we earned a short corner and Ewald managed to convert to level the scores at 4-4. Bosch then threw everything at with the hope of getting the elusive winning goal. On full time we were again awarded a short corner, which was well taken, but missed the left-hand post by 5 cm s. At the end 4-4 was an accurate reflection on the best game of the season. Well done to our boys and coaching staff. Alistair Corder (Parent) U14C v No match report received at time of publication.
