O O U R S P O N S O R S What a fantastic weekend for the club; our first Development game of the season against the newly-formed South Birmingham Hawks and a stunning performance by the First Grade to grind out a W away to reigning Champions Northampton Demons. Firstly, I want to thank everyone involved in getting the club to where it is this season. To get circa 35 guys at training every week and to field two full squads on a Saturday is a huge achievement. It is a real testament to the staff and players of this club and shows a great desire to move forward. On a personal note, I also wanted to add how proud I was to coach the Development side last week. It was my first experience of coaching and at times, it showed! Thanks to all the lads who turned out for me and the club, even though the game ended in a narrow 4 point defeat, I am proud of all of you. I m sure we ll get our revenge this week! I am also incredibly proud of the First Grade lads for one of the most resolute performances I have seen in a Dragons shirt. A tight game, played by two solid sides was never going to be any different. Finally, massive thanks to Mark and Tracy Slater for their David Bailey-esque photography skills; the photos and videos that you provide were and will continue to be such a massive help when reviewing the action. M A N Y T H A N K S T O C O A C H E S C O R N E R After two relatively easy wins to start the season, last week we came up against a very well drilled side in Northampton.

With the game on the line, we held out around 6 sets being tested all across the park and the guys showed a real urgency to not let them score.

Danny Gover also deserves a mention being his first hit out for the season and topping the tackle count with 28.

This was just what we needed and we got the test we were after, narrowly coming away with the win. The most pleasing aspect of this win would have to be our goal line defence. With the game on the line, we held out around 6 sets being tested all across the park and the guys showed a real urgency to not let them score. Tyronie Rowe rightly received the man of the match and his stats proved that with 19 carries for 165 meters. Danny Gover also deserves a mention being his first hit out for the season and topping the tackle count with 28. This week we come up against an unknown challenge in Buxton Bulls and our Development side playing against South Birmingham Hawks, with both sides playing at home. Team selection is strong in both sides and it will be a great opportunity for myself and Sloppy to cast our eyes over the whole squad in action. 4 M A T C H R E P O R T T H E S Q U A D The Coventry Dragons produced a display of resolute defence and opportunist attack to seal their first ever victory over the Northampton Demons...and cement their lead at the Midlands Premier League summit. Both teams went into this one with a 100% record this season, with the Demons holding an unbelievable unbeaten streak stretching back almost 2 years. The game began as many expected, a tight encounter with very little in the way of scoring chances. Dragons forwards Tyronie Rowe and debutant Danny Gover looked keen to impress and got through a lot of early work. A couple of mistakes started to creep in and some slack defending led to the Demons taking the lead and converting the try. The Dragons weren't on the back foot for long and levelled through the tireless Tyronie Rowe, smashing through the Demons backline to score; Mark Hyslop stepped up and coolly converted. Both teams began to create chances and an opportunist kick from Dean Thompson almost created a chance for Chris Prempeh. Northampton were again to take the lead, a quick break and expansive attack led to a try in the corner. Within minutes, the Demons scored again, some tired defending allowing the score. The Dragons dusted themselves down and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck, A great kick from Dean Thompson following a high tackle on Tobias Rochester-Bremmer allowed an attack 15m out from the Demons try line. Some quick thinking from Player/Coach Mark Hyslop created room for him to stroll through for a try, which he himself converted. HT The Demons came out determined in the second half and claimed the first score to extend their lead. After this, the Dragons camped in the Northampton half with an extended period of pressure. This paid off as Ben Kearney completed a sweeping move to score a debut try. The game remained tight until Captain Dean Thompson took the ball from the back of the scrum, jinked his way across the Demons backline and scored. Hyslop again converting. The Dragons held a slender 2 point lead until the dying stages until Player/Coach Mark Hyslop produced a moment of magic, picking up the ball 10m out, dummying two players and drop kicking to seal the win.
