1 Hilton College Interim Sports Newsletter Weekly Newsletter ISSUE 01 November 2015 Sports wrap Cricket Our boys played against Westville on Saturday. Westville proved to be too strong across six of the nine matches played. However, it was very pleasing to note the outstanding performances of our 1st XI, 15 A and 14 A teams who secured fine wins. The most notable performance was undoubtedly the under 14 A team who became the first team this year to beat their very strong opponents. Scoring 272/6 was never going to be easy and nor was defending that total given the strength of the Westville under 14 team. I was delighted with the boys determined effort in restricting Westville to 258/6 thereby securing a 15 run victory. The senior inter-house cricket final will take place on Wednesday afternoon, with Pearce having beaten Newnham in the junior inter-house event last week. Water polo This weekend saw Hilton College host Westville Boys in the water polo pool. With the exception of the first teams who did not play, both of whom were away at the St Stithians Stayers Festival, the matches were pretty evenly contested and the results reflected as much. It was however, only our 2nd team and under 15 A teams that were able to secure wins on the day, with Westville presenting as strong opponents. Ryan Griesel has been included in the KZN U16 water polo team to participate in the national tournament in December. Basketball Our basketball teams played against Westville on Saturday and endured a tough day on the courts. The first team put in a good performance in going down narrowly to Westville whilst the under 14 A team pushed their opposition hard in a very close match. The Junior inter-house competition was held on Monday and congratulations go to Lucas who beat Falcon in the final. The Senior inter-house competition was held on Tuesday and congratulations are extended to Falcon, who beat McKenzie in the final. Golf The annual golf dinner took place last Wednesday and the following awards were presented: Inter-House Longest Drive: Junior Winner Longest Drive Senior Winner Longest Drive Junior Stroke play Champion: Senior Stroke play Champion: Gordon Grieve Cup for School Match play Champion: School Match play Champion- Back draw: Harvey Douglas Shield for Douglas Cup MVP: Emerging Golfer Award : Attitude, Belief and Commitment Award: Shillaw Trophy for Winner of the Order of Merit: Pearce Michael Makris Rourke Lauryssen Michael Makris Guy Waterhouse Guy Waterhouse Vuyo Mondi James Rex Mbongeni Malinga Chris Woollam Guy Waterhouse
