PETER S Saturday 28 May AIC Round 3 Rugby and Football v ST. PETER S FROM THE HEAD OF SPORT Last Saturday we hosted Villanova College in Round 2 of AIC sport for the winter season. This was our first major home game of the season and was a great success with new initiatives such as the ground announcer for the 1 st XV and the fantastic use of the television outside the canteen to display information. On Friday afternoon our Chess teams completed a 4-1 result their competition matches, which continued their great start to the season. In rugby we were successful in 10 of the 13 aggregate matches with our 1 st XV putting on an impressive performance in winning In football we had a strong weekend in the aggregate competition winning 5 and drawing 3 of the 12 matches played. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the football round was our 1 st XI s emphatic 5-0 victory over Villanova with an impressive second half display. Well done to all teams on a great start to the season and a special mention to those teams who played in higher competitions than their own team s actual competition. This is always a tough task and one that numerous Ashgrove boys have done for many years. ROUND 3 This weekend our major opponents are Padua College who are traditionally tough rivals in both rugby and football competitions. Please check the draws listed below carefully and make sure you arrive at your playing venue no later than 30-45mins prior to the commencement of your game. Coaches will relay this information to all students. The 1 st XV rugby match promises to be an entertaining game and one that could have a great impact on the premiership. Defending premiers Padua College will certainly come ready to put in a big performance and we encourage as many supporters as possible to turn up and cheer on the teams. Game details are below. UNIFORM Only BLUE shorts are to be worn on the sporting field when representing Ashgrove. No other colours are accepted. When you represent your school in sport you are on public display and the image of our players and teams is important to the reputation of our school. Coaches have been asked to keep an eye on this for our weekend of sport. FINDING INFORMATION It is very important that all boys are checking the newsletter and the links on the school website for information regarding each weekend of sport. We have the 74 teams participating in the 2015 AIC rugby and football seasons and as a result we always play several different schools and different venues. In an ongoing effort to provide sporting opportunities for all of our students we often have teams who will be in competitions where they play an opposition or a school more than once throughout the season. This is part of being the largest school in the AIC competition and we would rather see this occur than our boys not play at all. Therefore, sporting draws must be checked carefully each week to take a note of game times and venues that may change week to week. 1 ST XV RUGBY ASH 1 st XV vs. PADUA 1 st XV 2.15pm, Field McMahon Oval Marist College Ashgrove, Frasers Rd, Ashgrove 1 ST XI FOOTBALL ASH 1 st XI vs. PADUA 1 st XI 12.30pm, Field Hayden Oval Marist College Ashgrove, Frasers Rd, Ashgrove **ALL SUPPORTERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO TURN OUT IN GREAT NUMBERS TO SUPPPORT OUR TEAMS!!
