6 WET WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENTS Despite the best efforts of the sports department to push for games to be played where possible, it is inevitable that the weather will cause some games and training to be cancelled. Parents and students are encouraged to follow MCA Secondary Sports on twitter for the most up to date announcements regarding training and games. This can be accessed by both the internet and via most telephones and I encourage all parents and students to sign up and follow MCA Secondary Sport as this will be the first place that any announcements will be made regarding wet weather notices. Those with an iphone or similar can download the twitter app and receive instant updates directly to their phones free of charge. I encourage all parents and boys to visit the College web site and follow the links which explain how to create your own twitter account and follow us. PLEASE NOTE: boys/families should not assume that games are cancelled. If no notification has been given, players should attend their scheduled matches as usual. CROSS COUNTRY MCA Cross Country Coordinator: Pat Webster websterp@marash.qld.edu.au Regular Cross Country training has resumed this week and it has been wonderful to see such enthusiastic participation so far. In our first year as a whole-school 5-12 program, record numbers have seen over 260 boys take part in the program, and it is hoped that this eagerness will be maintained throughout the season. Remember it is not too late join our XC squad as we cater for all ability levels we train each Mon, Tue, Wed & Thu and meet at 6:45am at the Grandstand. Simply turn up or get in touch with Mr Fogarty (Head Coach) or myself for more info. 1. MCA XC WEBSITE & SMARTPHONE APP: In seeking a more efficient means of sharing information, we have developed an MCA Cross Country smartphone app & website. It is hoped that this will make it easier for both parents & squad members to keep up to date with the many and various happenings related to Cross Country and hopefully it might lessen the dependence on communication. The app is completely free, and it's been great to see over 80 parents and 95 boys sign up already. Please see below for instructions with how to: (1) access the website; and (2) upload the app. 1. MCA XC Website: Please use the following link to access the website: - this site works

7 seamlessly together with the smartphone app. To access the site, you will need to 'Sign Up' with Team App first by simply following the prompts once you ve done this, you will have access to both the website and the app. 2. MCA XC Smartphone App Please see over page for instructions explaining how to download the app. 2. PARKRUNS Parkruns will continue each Saturday of Term 2 (from Week 2) at from 7am. Own transport will be required for these runs. We will have the girls from Mt St Michael s join us most weeks so hopefully that can be extra incentive to take part. At all Parkruns, it is expected that boys wear the bumblebee AIC singlet so that we represent the College as a united group. Attendance is of course voluntary, and boys are certainly not expected nor permitted to forgo their other College sports to participate in these runs. Families are also warmly encouraged to come along and participate also. To participate in Parkruns, you need to register your details through the website the steps are as follows: 1. Visit website: 2. Fill our rego form: Follow the prompts and fill out the form with your details where it asks you to select your Running Club, please choose Marist College Ashgrove. 3. Print off barcodes: Once registered, you will soon be ed a page of six barcodes please save this document and print it. You will need to bring one of these with you every time you run (these are scanned post-race and your time will be ed to you later in the day). Note: If you would like me to laminate these for you, simply forward your barcode through to me (websterp@marash.qld.edu.au) and I will organise this and return it to you. 3. UPCOMING EVENTS: Please see the Season Calendar for the upcoming events - notable events next week are: Monday 27/4 Secondary Schools Cross Country Challenge, U12-Open only (event organised by Ashgrove Rangers bus transport is provided from the College) Friday 30/4 Primary Schools Cross Country Challenge, Dorrington Park, Ashgrove Years 5 & 6 only (event organised by Ashgrove Rangers bus transport is provided from the College) Saturday 2/5 (own transport required) Saturday 2/5 All Schools Cross Country Championships (this event is effectively the state championships for XC ideal for the Top 5 runners in each age group) Please see two pages over for the recently updated season calendar.
