3 U19A - CAPE CRICKET FESTIVAL This really is a great way to start the year as it ensures that the new team is strenuously tested right from ball one! We ended up losing the toss in the first four games of the festival which provided us the opportunity to work on our ability to chase targets effectively. The first day saw us take on Garsfontein, who were bowled out for 200 in 66 overs. Douglas Cox (5 for 32) and Lehan Botha (4 for 20) bowled with great discipline on a good batting surface to frustrate the men from Pretoria. Justin Broad played superbly in the run chase, eventually falling for an elegant 107 off just 130 balls. However, the target was reached for the loss of just four wickets with 16 overs to spare. Northcliff was next and the day followed a similar pattern. Some superb fielding, as a collective unit, and two great catches by Gabriel Gad meant that the Northcliff batsmen struggled to gain any ascendency in the innings. Steven Reingold s 3 for 44 was the pick of the bowling and Northcliff ended on 182 all out. Reingold topped off a good day with 41 with the bat. Then Broad (77 not out) and Daniel da Costa (37 not out) saw us home for an eight wicket win in just the thirty-fifth over.

4 Day three served up another disciplined performance with the ball. Good lines and lengths were the order of the day and that resulted in St John s College struggling to score, even though they occupied the crease for their full 70 overs, ending on 172 for 9. Guy Sheena returned figures of 3 for 45 in 20 overs. Broad was again in sublime form and ended 81 not out off 95 balls. This time it was Botha who added the support with a fluent 47 to take us to another eight wicket win. Day four saw a lacklustre effort in the field in the morning session and the Noord Kaap top order made us pay to be 94 for 1 shortly before the tea break. The Grade 10 spin twins, Sheena and Jordan Collier, then settled in to good rhythms and started to exert some pressure on the batsmen as wickets began to tumble. Increased energy in the field helped to strangle the batsmen for the remainder of the innings that saw Noord Kaap stumble to 164 all out in the forty-sixth over. Our openers, Reingold (55) and Botha (89 off 104 balls) made short work of the run chase to see us record a nine wicket victory in the thirty-third over.

5 The last day saw us finally win a toss and bat first against Pretoria Boys High School in a 40 over game. Our top order did not make the best use of the opportunity to bat first, with only Da Costa s 48 getting past the 30 mark, and we eventually finished on 181 for 9. The match remained in the balance right to the very end, with Daniel Moriarty (3 for 35) and Botha (3 for 30) being the most successful of the bowlers. Botha showed great maturity in the final over to ensure that the Bosch boys snuck home by four runs to end the week with five wins out of five. It was pleasing to see how the players grew during the week. If they can keep up this growth pattern, 2017 could prove to be another fantastic year for the boys playing under the banner of the Bosch tree!

6 U15A SOMERSET COLLEGE FESTIVAL ST STITHIANS (60 0VERS) - 7 January 2017 This festival is always a great start to the season for all U15 teams. With great fixtures lined up, it didn t make it any easier to play St Stithians on the first day. We won the toss and elected to field first. We bowled St Stithians out for 164. Our stand out bowlers were Reese Scheepers, 4/25, and Jacques Duminy, 3/20. This was never an easy game but RBHS showed some real guts and passed the score in the fifty-ninth over with Scheepers making 32 runs. Rondebosch finished on 165/6 to win by four wickets. PAARL GYMNASIUM (50 overs) - 8 January 2017 Rondebosch elected to bat first and made 250/7. Quinn van Oordt made 75 of those runs, Aneeq Gamieldien 40 and Cameron van Rensburg 39. This was a very good batting display from RBHS. Paarl Gymnasium never had momentum during the game as we restricted them with good bowling and good field placements to 200/8. Rondebosch won by 50 runs.

7 SOMERSET COLLEGE (T20) - 9 January 2017 RBHS won the toss and elected to bowl first. On a very small field, RBHS did a very good job to restrict Somerset College to 88/7 in 20 overs. Our best bowler was Duminy with 4/19. Rondebosch passed the score with ease, making 93 without loss. Scheepers made 56 not out and Van Oordt, 31 not out. Rondebosch won by 10 wickets. WYNBERG BOYS HIGH (T20) - 9 January 2017 Rondebosch against Wynberg is always a difficult game, especially playing in a T20 where anything can happen. We lost the toss and were sent in to bat. We lost our captain with a very unfortunate run out and we never recovered, only making 122/6 in 20 overs. Wynberg won the game, 123/7, but the boys put up a great fight. Wynberg won by three wickets. CENTURION (45 overs) - 10 January 2017 For the last game we wanted to make up for the loss against Wynberg and to play some good, positive cricket against Centurion. Rondebosch won the toss and made 247/5 in 45 overs. Our best batsmen were Van Oordt with 98 runs and Scheepers with 45 runs. Centurion was bowled out for 119, so Rondebosch won by 128 runs. This was a good team performance!

9 EUROLUX RPL 2017 The RPL took place for the fourth year running and it was as good as ever. Ten teams participated in the annual event, on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 January, with the most important objective being to have as much fun as possible. There was some very good cricket played over the two days with lots of big sixes, great bowling and some superb fielding on show. The eventual winners of the tournament were Nick Robinson s team who defeated Justin Broad s team in a nail-biting final - eventually triumphing by one run off the final delivery!

11 This year saw us host a concert on the Friday night and Richard Stirton royally entertained the 1500 people who attended. The event was kicked off by our very own, massively talented gig band, led by Mr de Kock who set the tone for a wonderful evening with a wonderful 45 minute set. Richard s superb voice, coupled with his humble nature, endeared him to the large crowd and his own obvious enjoyment was infectious. It was really a wonderful evening and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We are very grateful to Richard for giving up his time to assist our fundraising efforts! A special mention must go to Robert Gad who invested a huge amount of time into the organising of the event. His meticulous nature and eye for detail meant that the event ran beautifully on the night - well done and THANK YOU to Robert.

13 Another highlight of the weekend was the appearance of Graeme Smith for the biggest six hitting competition, which was eventually won by Gabriel Gad. The former Protea captain sponsored large amounts of Biff s Big Six firewood, charcoal, briquettes and firelighters and also presented the prizes for the competition.

15 This is really a great way to kick-off the school year - to stand and watch the integration that happens between the new Grade 8s and the senior members of the teams is intensely gratifying and is one of the reasons why the cricket community really has developed into one homogenous group. 21 U15A vs MENLOPARK (50 overs) Reece Scheepers: 54 runs Rondebosch won by 34 runs After a very busy week of cricket, the boys had one final game against Menlopark. Playing on cricket A was a great treat for the boys. Sunday morning was a bit cloudy and it was drizzling so the decision to bat or to bowl first was a big discussion within our team. We finally decided that we wanted to bat first. The first couple of overs were tricky with some great bowling from Menlopark. RBHS was 5 for 2 in five overs. We recovered to make a decent total of 180/7 after 50 overs with some great batting from Reese Scheepers, 54 runs, Jacques Duminy, 34 runs, and Cameron van Rensburg, 34 runs. The game seemed like it could go either way, but RBHS showed great fight. Some good fielding and three run outs and the game got away from Menlopark. We bowled them out for 142/10. Our bowling unit did a great job, though a special mention must go to Max Stead with figures of 2/16 and four maidens in 10 overs. RBHS won by 38 runs. Well done boys! U15B vs MENLOPARK On Sunday 15 January the U15Bs played touring side, Menlopark on Lower Desert. Menlopark won the toss and elected to bat. This proved costly as Rondebosch bowled them out for 110 in 23 overs. The wickets were shared amongst the bowlers. Rondebosch got off to a steady start as Peter Hart and Steffan Brundyn knocked off the runs. In the end Rondebosch eased over the finish line with eight wickets remaining. A special mention must be made of Hart who made his first 50 of the season!
