U19A vs BISHOPS An overcast morning and a slightly wet outfield greeted the Bosch boys at the Frank Reid Oval for their final game of the season. Having played against Bishops twice in the past month, in limited over formats, and a win for each team, the full day fixture was a fitting end to the trilogy. After losing the toss, Bishops went in to bat and a strange occurrence transpired with the first two balls of the game being bowled illegitimately costing five runs apiece. A strange scoreboard beamed 10/0 after 0.0 overs. However, debutant, James van Rensburg, soon settled into a good line and length at a lively pace as he picked up the first wicket. His opening partner, Douglas Cox, was steady as ever as he got the ball to move both ways picking up a wicket in his first spell too. The captain then turned straight to the spin twins, Daniel Moriarty and Guy Sheena, in a double change and they started to extract more skid than spin off the Bishops track and made some crucial breakthroughs.

It was an innings in which wickets fell in clusters, making it difficult for the hosts to gain any momentum. Moriarty and Sheena accounted for five wickets between them as they kept the run rate down in another display of mature spin bowling. Captain, Jesse Christensen, then bought back the strike bowler van Rensburg who wrapped up the lower order finishing with 3/29. Bishops was bowled out for one run below their century in the fifty-first over. Walking into bat, openers Hamza Saloojee and Gabriel Gad were greeted with a moving ball from one end and a spinner opening the bowling from the other. The skiddy new ball proved Saloojee s undoing early on. Then Gad was joined by Christensen who moved the score to 30 before a dab from the captain deflected a bit fine into the hands of slip. Justin Broad entered the arena full of confidence and the two Grade 10s played with defiant defence and mixed aggression as we wheedled the deficit away.

With victory insight Gad was caught and bowled for 37. He showed terrific signs of application and hunger to bat for such a long period of time. Broad and new man, Daniel Da Costa, surged towards the finish line but as was the case all day, a cluster of wickets fell leaving Rondebosch six down with seven runs to get. Nic Giger, on debut, struck the winning runs to go with his excellent catches and a run out in a day, which I am sure he will remember fondly. Rondebosch grasped victory by four wickets and completed the season on a winning note. JACO ZEEMAN

WRAP UP FOR THE SEASON It has been a busy and successful term of cricket, with many exciting moments and excellent achievements by our teams. Runs, wickets, catches and run outs - we have seen it all - often sitting on the edge of our seats as the game drew to a close. We ended the 2015 season with a memorable cricket dinner attended by 1 st, 2 nd, U15A and U14A players and parents. It was a wonderful farewell for our matric players, and we would like to thank Kim Commins and her team for the outstanding effort - the evening was enjoyed by all. We would like to make special mention of those who donated prizes for our auction at the dinner: Gary Kirsten pullover JP Duminy jersey - arranged by JP21 Foundation JP Duminy Cap Mark Boucher wicketkeeping gloves Steenberg Golf Estate 4 ball voucher Westlake Golf Estate 4 ball voucher Fancourt Golf Estate 4 ball voucher Blue Lemon Hair voucher Stellenbosch Academy of Design & Photography - Photography course Fabulash voucher Wanderlust locket Wanderlust voucher Mark Nathan Physiotherapist treatments Rippons - fielding stumps Vinturi wine aerator and Corkcicle wine cooler

2016 saw the start of a busy cricket term. First up was the annual RBHS RPL - this event, in its third year, is a wonderful way of bringing the players together in a fun environment - players from all age groups are teamed together and play in a 6 a side format. Brightly coloured shirts, sponsor gazebos, biggest sixes, boerie rolls on the braai, good music and delicious pancakes made for a fun event. Thanks to our resident DJ for the weekend - Peter Henry who kept us entertained, and to Jive for keeping us all hyrdrated. A huge thank you to each and every parent and supporter who helped at the cooldrink stand, behind the braai, in the kitchen and setting up the event - it was great to see such enthusiastic help and support from the RBHS cricket community. An event such as this one would be impossible without input from our sponsors - we would like to say a special thank you to our sponsors for their generosity, support and involvement in this event - one we are hoping will become an annual feature on our cricket calendar.

U19B vs BISHOPS It was a very overcast morning with a fair amount of dew. The boys arrived ready for a good day of cricket. Max Pike won the toss and elected to bat first. We didn t get off to a good start with the first wicket falling off the first ball of the game. We kept our heads up and pushed on with George Williams-Sales and Kyle Smith putting on a good 74 run partnership in very difficult conditions. When Smith lost his wicket, after the first drinks break, as usual we lost another two quick ones. Williams-Sales did well to put on his 40 runs. Joffvre Duminy did well, sticking it out while wickets fell around him. Duminy and Mike Mavovana put on a good 43 run partnership with Mavovana scoring a quick 27 off 18 balls. The highlight of the innings was by far the 52 runs scored by Duminy. We ended the innings on 211. We came in to bowl and it was clear Bishops was in no rush at all with the first 10 overs only producing 14 runs. It was tough going out in the field and bowlers were unlucky not to pick up wickets. Bishops eventually ended up on 163/7. Duminy picked up three wickets. The match ended in a draw. It was a good term of cricket and we are proud of the boys and their achievements. We are looking forward to Term 4. Thanks to all the parents for their support and Granny Joan for all of her Marmite scones.

U19C vs Bishops U17A The last game of this half of the season was finally upon the Kings, who were raring to go against arch-rivals, Bishops. With both teams sporting some impressive results this year, such an epic encounter was made even more special and fitting as it took place as a day-night clash on the Frank Reid Oval. Unfortunately, Devon Arendse found out the hard way that tails does sometimes fail: Bishops won the toss and elected to bat. This, however, was the last thing that Bishops was to win as the Kings went out and dominated all facets of play on what was the most perfect Friday evening. Whilst Jordan Child, Cal Smid and Ryan Leatherby all did their bit to keep the runs down - including taking a pair of wickets each - it was veteran off-spinner, turned legspinner, Josh Isaacs, who stole the show. Bamboozling the Bishops tail-enders with a quality spell, Isaacs ended with figures of 3/6 after six overs. Bishops ended on only 74, all out. The Kings s chase was less than impressive, however, it did allow for almost every team member to have their part in the match. A wobble up front, with the loss of Devon Arendse, Richard Burger and Robert Gillett, Bishops seemed on track to cause an emphatic upset by limiting the Kings to even less than the required 75. However, Joshua Venter, Khaleel Tayob and, towards the end, big-hitting and in-form batsman Thomas Shand showed their worth and took the Kings within inches of victory. In the end, live wire, wicket-keeper, Gareth Probert, hit the winning runs to take the Kings to yet another impressive three wicket victory. This marks the end of the first half of the season that thus far will long be remembered for all the right reasons. The Kings remain unbeaten. Captain, Devon Arendse, and his mighty men can be very pleased with their efforts with some spectacular and edgeof-the-seat results.

U19D vs BISHOPS U19C It was very competitive from ball one! Games against Bishops are always a spectacle as both sides put in their all for the occasion. Bishops won the toss and decided to bat first. They posted 138 all out after 35 overs. Their decision proved beneficial for Rondebosch as the team displayed discipline and urgency in the field. The chief destroyer was Tom Wall with figures of 3/19. In reply, Rondebosch got off to a shaky start losing early wickets. However, consolidation and patience throughout the innings paid off. Rondebosch fought hard for a four wicket victory. Damian Sparks made the most runs with 53. In the end, it was a perfect climax to a very good first half of the cricketing year.

U19E vs BISHOPS U19D After a great Thursday practice the boys were ready for the big derby day on Friday. Rondebosch won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket which offered a little bit for both batters and bowlers. They got off to a flyer with Gary Strybis (32) and Millo DeGoede (36) putting together an opening partnership of 64, playing risk-free cricket. Strybis then departed which brought Kyle Gracey to the wicket. Gracey added 28 runs off just 17 balls, hitting the ball to all sides of the field. Rondebosch ended up scoring 156/7 with some vital contributions made by the tail. This being our highest team total, Bishops would need a miracle to chase down this mammoth total against our vicious, formidable attack. From the start of the first over, till the end, Rondebosch were always ahead of the game. Bishops, needing more than 10 an over for most of the game, eventually crumbled. This was a result of some great bowling all round, though mention must go out to Josh Stredder (4/11 in four overs) and Gracey (3/5 in two overs). Bishops ended on 74/9 in their allotted 20 overs. The Rondebosch U19E won yet again, but this time by 84 runs. I am so proud of the boys for their unbeaten season and for backing ourselves to achieve it! U19F vs BISHOPS Bishops scored 116 all out after 19 overs. Ben Bristow took 4/23 in his four overs. When it came to our turn, RBHS scored 82 runs for the loss of nine wickets after 20 overs. We lost the match by 34 runs.

U15A vs BISHOPS Playing against Bishops in any sport is always a test for RBHS. Our aim for this week was ending the season on a high note. Saturday morning, with no sunshine and a lot of cloud, looked like the perfect time to bowl. We won the toss for a change and elected to bowl. After some good bowling all round the game was still in the balance at tea with the score on 65/2 in 25 overs. We had a good chat with the boys and our second session in the field put us back in the pass. With some great bowling from Lehan Botha, Aidan Rooke, Luke Delmulle and Kyle Lesch we bowled Bishops out for 105 just before lunch. Our best bowler was Lesch with 3/6 in three overs.

After some power batting and great stroke-playing from Keegan Mountjoy and Cole Walbrugh, we got the runs in the twenty-third over to finish 107/3. Mountjoy was the best batsman with 49 runs. RBHS won by seven wickets. This was a great and positive end to our season.

U15B vs BISHOPS Bosch capped off the first half of the season with a dominant performance over traditional rivals, Bishops. After winning the toss and electing to bowl in the overcast conditions, Bosch earned themselves a breakthrough in the second over with no runs yet on the board. Bishops struggled to get the ball off the square and, in an attempt to score at more than three runs per over, lost wickets at regular intervals. Luke Pillay (3/17 in seven overs) was magnificent in the middle overs and Tyler Siebert (3/4 in 1.4 overs) wrapped up the tail with relative ease. Bosch s reply didn t set the world on fire, but the low target meant that the scoring rate did not need to be high. Bosch eased over the line with 15 overs to spare, unfortunately losing three wickets in the process. Well done gentlemen on a successful first term! I look forward to picking up where we left off in Term 4. U15C vs BISHOPS RBHS won the toss and elected to bat first. Playing 35 overs, they scored 204 runs, with a big total of 89 runs put up by opening batsman Aidan Wittels. Then RBHS bowled Bishops all out for 76 runs. The bowlers were outstanding allowing only four extras with the ball. Bowler of the match was Mustapha Dawood who took 4/21 in seven overs with two maidens. RBHS won by 138 runs.

U15D vs MONUMENT HIGH SCHOOL The U15D team played Monument High School on Saturday at Rondebosch. After losing the toss we were put into bowl. The innings got off to a decent start with our opening bowlers bowling some good line and length. They were on fire and never let the batters rest for a second. Our bowler of the match was Stuart Van Wyk, who got season's best figures of 5/2 off three overs. Monument went on to score 38 all out, setting Bosch 39 for victory. Bosch got off to a flying start and never let their foot off the gas. Paul Rossouw and Oliver Wakeford got the team over the line easily, with the former getting 33 not out. Bosch reached the total after four overs, ending on 41 for no loss. We won by 10 wickets. Our Man of the Match was Stuart Van Wyk. We ended off the first part of our season with a bang! I m sure we can continue the good form in the fourth term.

U14A vs BISHOPS This was a good end to the first half of the season. Reese Scheepers won the toss and sent Bishops in, with the influencing factor being the heavy cloud cover. It was a very disciplined seam attack and Scheepers opened the bowling with extreme pace. He sent the opening batsman on his way after numerous play and misses. Callum Whitson bowled particularly well, in support, and his eight overs only cost eight runs. He was rewarded with one wicket. Max Stead (2/30) also put pressure on at one end but Bishops showed good discipline generally with the bat. It was an interesting position with each team fighting for advantage and with good bowling and batting disciplines on both sides. Bishops was 110/4 at lunch and the pressure created by the seamers gave the spinners a good platform. James Prowse (2/28) got the breakthrough with a good, diving catch by Stead. Sam Bovim (3/20) got a grip from one end to create problems for the Bishops batsmen and he broke through to capture Bishops top batsman. Stead compounded Bishops problems to change from seam to legspin. Between the three spinners seven wickets were captured and Bishops was 138 all out.

A tribute to the Rondebosch spinners is that Bishops tried to create the same impact by bowling the majority of their overs with spinners. Peter Hart, on debut, opened the batting and did his job to face 70 balls and set it up for the middle order. Quinn Van Oordt, Scheepers and Cameron Van Rensburg got Rondebosch close. Scheepers batted with great maturity to reach 49. A quick flurry of wickets in the middle order did create some pressure but Neill Marais played a valuable cameo of 18 not out. He and Kian Davis absorbed the pressure to take it home for the Rondebosch side at 140/7. Rondebosch won by three wickets. This was a good response from the side and there is some exciting potential coming through. I look forward to the next half of the season. U14B vs BISHOPS It was a lovely morning when the mist was thick and the conditions for cricket were just perfect. Bishops won the toss and put Bosch into bat first. Rondebosch started off nicely but lost quick consecutive wickets just before drinks, leaving us at 50/4 after 18 overs. We ended up scoring 118 with Alexander Young scoring a quick 39. What a pleasure to watch! We came into bowl and bowled far too many wides. Bishops eventually got to our score with four overs remaining. It wasn t fun losing but we re very proud of the boys and overall it was a great season.

U14C vs BISHOPS It was another great day for cricket on the last afternoon of cricket for the term. Bosch captain, Matthew Stone, won the toss and elected to bowl first. Despite a slow start the Bishops boys hit some nice shots to get the scoreboard ticking. Although wickets were falling, some drop catches helped the Bishops boys reach a respectable total of 86 in their 20 overs. As the pitch looked good for batting the Bosch boys were confident that they would chase down the target. The Bosch innings got off to a woeful start as two quick decisions and two lazy shots led to Bosch s downfall as we were four wickets down for six runs. Despite the best efforts of Ross McDonald and Ryan DeLucchi, the score was out of reach. Bosch was bowled out for a disappointing 42. Nevertheless, the U14C team had a great season winning four of their six games. Well done boys! U14D vs BISHOPS Bishops won the toss and elected to bat first. Our best bowler was James Ritchie with 2/5 in three overs. Bishops was all out for 69. Rondebosch replied with 73 runs for the loss of two wickets, to win the match with four overs to spare. Our top scorers were Keenan Delmulle (26) and Mehul Jaga (17).
