1 Term one has been a busy, but exciting, one with the culmination of Harmony Day last week. MAY 2018 TERM 2 WEEK 4 Thanks to everyone who helped make our Harmony Day such a success: To the cooks - your food was delicious and plentiful; LEPSTo & the MCS students played game of football costume makers - thea friendly performers looked amazing;before the bell rang this morning. (insert) To the performers the acts showed your enthusiasm and were very engaging; To the families/community your presence in the audience was felt and greatly appreciated; and To the presenters, Telicia and Kade your hosting was fantastic. Special mention needs to go to Daniel for organising the food; William for teaching songs and dances to the students, as well as, providing costumes; and Sana and Sabrina for spending many hours making the Cultural Dancers costumes. Again, thank you everyone for making Menindee Central truly a focal point of our community. Your unwavering support for the school is something that the Shadow Ministers, Jihad Dib and David Harris, noticed and commented on. I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday and look forward to an exciting Term 2. Students are to return to school on Tuesday 1 May, Fiona Our boys who represented MCS at the Cobar Rugby League Carnival last week. More pics, full story page 5 and thanks to Ebony Browning.. 1

4 Back: Ebonie, Honey, Tyson, Cheyenne, Jessie, Albert:: Front: Destiny, Brandi, Malachy, Kevin: Last Friday we went to the Barrier Cross Country at the Broken Hill Racecourse. Twelve MCS students competed in their respective age groups. All of the students did their very best by challenging their physical boundaries against athletes from around the Barrier region. Our best performers on the day were Isiah who finished 4th in the Broken Hill Schools and 5th against the Barrier teams. Isiah s natural ability was noted by many around the grounds and they will be watching him very closely in future events. Jessie May and Honey also had great results finishing 10th and 11th in their age category. I am extremely proud of every student who competed on Friday and look forward to many more opportunities in the future. 5 Rugby League Gala Day, 2018 Cobar On Thursday the 10 th of May 13 boys went and played in the annual Rugby League Gala Day held in Cobar. Students included; Kade, Kyle, Braydan, Bailey, Jake, Steven, Kasey, Sinele, Jason, Richie, Tristan, Kadum and AJ with Daniel Fusi coaching the side. The students of MCS played four games in total. The teams that participated in the competition included Nyngan, Cobar & Menindee for the opens competition and Nyngan, Cobar & Bourke for the 15 s competition. Each team played three games with 3 points awarded for a win, two for a draw and won for a loss. Each game went for 15min and had unlimited interchange. In the first game we played Cobar. It was a very close match. We held them out of their end in defence and ran the ball well to get to ours. There were three tries scored, with the first one from Brayden, the second converted try from Sinele and the third from Steven. We won against Cobar In the second game we played against Nyngan. It was a well fought match. We had three try scorers they included Sinele & Steven with Brayden making two. Sinele and Steven kicked two to covert two tries. Nyngan s number three scored three tries in the same spot (on the wing). We drew The third game saw us come up against Cobar. We won We dominated this match & had four try scorers: Jake, Ritchie, and Kasey & Braydan with Bailey converting one of our tries. From our two wins and one draw we qualified for the finals against Nyngan. Our final match for the day was against Nyngan. It was a very closely fought match. In fifteen minutes nine tries were scored across the two teams. We had four try scorers with Bailey converting two tries. Try scorers included; Steven, Kasey, Sinele & Kyle. Towards the end of the game, Jake hurt his hand and had to be taken off the ground. In the last minute of the game Nyngan scored a try. They needed to convert the try to win the match. The kick was right in front of the uprights. They won. With a final score of We came second in the competition. Sinele received player of the match for the last game against Nyngan. MCS students showed great sportsmanship, shaking hands with the boys and between games sitting with the other teams in the grandstand. SPECIAL MENTION GOES TO: TRISTAN FOR RUNNING WATER THROUGHOUT THE DAY & TO KADUM FOR PLAYING FOR BOURKE IN THE SECOND ROUND OF THE 15 S Match against Nyngan. Kadum took the first offensive run hitting and driving hard into the defence. He was a valuable player for Bourke. Mrs Browning. 5

6 On Friday 19th May, 4/5/6 got to show what they have been learning in robotics. We got to go down to the K/1/2 room with all of the primary students. We showcased our coding skills, which included moving the robots, changing their colours, putting variables into the robots and also some voice editing. We are going to be going back down to K/1/2 in the coming weeks to keep showing what we have been learning. We are doing this as part of a peer support program and to show what the future of technology could look like. All the students loved the robots and got to have a go at controlling the robots around the room. Here are some pictures of how it went.. Brad Amos 6

7 There are several repeat offender dogs who are frequent to the school yard during the day. For the safety of our students, owners are being advised that if we cannot get in contact with you immediately the dog catchers will be called to come and take the animal away. This could result in a costly fine for you to retrieve your beloved pooch, so please ensure they are securely locked in your yard. Thank you. Front Office Staff. 7
