2 Welcome to Steppler Farms Charolais Bull Sale on March 24, This will be our 4th Bull Sale and our 40th year raising and selling Registered Charolais bulls. This year we offer 62 yearling bulls and 16 two year olds, which makes this sale the largest Charolais bull sale in Manitoba. All of the bulls are videoed and available for viewing at our website stepplerfarms.com. This year we are also streaming the bull sale live through Cattle in Motion. This will allow you to buy online if you can t make it to the sale or to simply watch the sale. If you wish to watch the sale, please get set up before hand to make sure you can make the connection. Our bull pen is selected each year out of our 400 registered cow herd. This enables us to offer a large consistent group of bulls to match our buyers needs. The majority of the cow herd weigh, in working condition, lb. In addition,we have selected females for their added calving ease, and have retained a group of females selected for their extra frame and performance. As you go through the catalogue, you will notice that the bull pen comes from two main sire groups. When we fi nd a bull that suits our standards, we use him a lot, both through AI and naturally. We begin our breeding season by AIing all the cows for the first 28 days to AI bulls that are mostly our own. Then these breeding sires take over in the pens. The two year old bulls offered this year were used as clean up bulls. You will also notice that I have marked some bulls as recommended for heifers. Now everyone has a different definition of a heifer bull, but mine is that the bull calves well-grown heifers with little to no assistance. If you want to use a Charolais bull on your heifers, there are some good candidates in the sale. The Manitoba Charolais Association hosted the National Show this fall and the promotional campaign was called Our Breed, Our Future. We ve placed Steppler Farm s ad on the back of our catalogue with our message, Now is the time to invest in your cowherd. The Cattle industry is our business. I truly believe that investing in sound genetics will make your cattle operation profitable. You get what you put into it. Don t sell your cows short by breeding them to the lowest birth weight bull you can find. Breed them to enhance their genetic potential. Remember, by today s market, every pound at weaning time is multiplied by $2.50. Our farm operation truly is our way of life and one that we love. But rest assured we are also in the business of farming; every hour we work is an hour invested into Steppler Farms to increase the bottom line. On a personal side Kate and I had a baby boy on September 21, We named him Brayden Thomas Steppler. Brynn is an excited big sister and she still runs our show! Once again, the sale features many ½ and ¾ brothers from strong cow families and the largest Charolais herd in Manitoba. Last year the Seminole sons proved how good they were. There are a number of them again this year, but the new kids on the block are by their new herdsire, Copenhagen. You will admire the thickness and width of rear quarter in this sire group. There are calving ease bulls and bulls that will add the extra performance you want from your mature females and the hair is excellent. If you need two-year old bulls the quality is also strong here. These aren t leftover bulls, but were held and developed slowly since weaning, to be bulls that will go out, work and last. The Steppler farm is a solid family operation. They are a diverse agriculture operation that has many facets but they all work together in the busy times for each enterprise. The cowherd has been developed over four decades and the same principles apply today. The cattle have to work for them and their customers. They have been here for years and will be here for years to come, so they want to make you a satisfied customer. 4 Adam and Amber were married October 11, 2014 Steppler Far s - For Years of Histor Steppler Charolais has reached a milestone in Forty years ago we registered our fi rst purebred Charolais animal. Now all these years later, we have evolved from selling private treaty breeding stock out of the yard to selling bulls each year on the farm in our sale barn. When we look back over the last forty years, we see enormous changes in the actual yard itself as well as within the structure of the farm organization and its diversity. Steppler Farms incorporated in 2008 after succession planning helped us to realize and put in place our dreams for the farm. We have always grain and cattle farmed but now Steppler Farms boasts a thriving state of the art 1200 hive apiary as well. The grain sector has expanded from an initial 800 acre land base in 1975 to over 3000 seeded acres. Adam and Amber, who works as a Vet Technician in Morden MB., are building a new yard site across the road from Ian and Sandy. Adam as grain boss sows cereals, canola, and corn for silage. These crops provide cash fl ow as well as honey fl ow and cattle pounds-a perfect symbiotic relationship between the three enterprises. This year we will sow soybeans, a new crop rotation for the farm. Adam seeding with the Seed Hawk zero till drill The Easy Arm Loader lightens bee yard work for Ian and his honey crew Ian s honey facility is now CFIA approved Apiarist Ian, Sandy and their fi ve children have built their farmyard a mile south on Ian s Uncle Wardie Orchard s farm site. There, Ian runs his honey facility and the place is a cloud of bees every summer. Ian annually markets over 150,000 pounds of honey through Bee Maid in Winnipeg. 5 Andre serves as Manitoba director on the Canadian Charolais Association board Andre Judging the Junior Beef Event at the Royal Kate and Andre showing at Brandon National Show Steppler 104A Reserve National Champion selling at Agribition to Dale McKay for $18000 Andre and Katie, who works as a physiotherapist at Boundary Trails Hospital near Winkler and Morden MB, reside on the original Steppler yard site where we fi rst lived. In this yard, Steppler Farms hosts the annual bull sale when the calving facility doubles as sale barn in March. Andre and Katie have elevated the Steppler Farms profi le by showing cattle for over ten years at MLE in Brandon and Agribition in Regina. For the last three years, Andre and Katie have also sold bred heifers through the No Borders sale in December. Andre has been asked to judge several cattle functions each year. This year, he judged at the CCYA event in Portage La Prairie, MB. Andre was especially excited when he was asked to judge the 2014 Junior Beef Event at the Toronto Royal where he had the honour of selecting two Champions out of 400 head. Geoff and his wife Sarah live closer to Miami on the heritage farmyard originally settled in 1915 by Pat s Uncle Harold Orchard. Geoff fl ies for Air Canada and Sarah works as a speech pathologist in the Winkler School system. We are very proud and lucky that the Steppler family farm is continuing through the commitment our four sons and their families have for farming and the land. Dan and Pat 5

In addition, Seminole is correct in every way and is perfectly footed with lots of hair and excellent testicle development. With Seminole, we won 2010 Supreme Champion Bull at MLE in 2010 as well as winning Grand Champion Charolais bull the same year. We used Seminole heavily in our breeding program and he now has a spot as the cornerstone sire at Steppler Farms. This year 37 sons and Seminole grandsons are on offer in the sale. Seminole s sons follow their father s footsteps with these curve bending stats behind them. Seminole s Breed Leading Stats: Top 5% for Weaning Weight, Top 1% for Yearling Weight, Top 3% for Milk, Top 1% for Total Maternal and Carcass qualities, Top 4% for Carcass Weight, and 5% for REA. And let s not forget the 1.7 BW EPD and a calving ease EPD of 63. The Seminole females are simply awesome, excellent udders and ample milk. The Copenhagen heifer calves were the first to cycle in our replacement pen and our 2014 show heifers were Copenhagen daughters. We are looking forward to having Copenhagen females in production. In conjunction with Andre, Dan, Pat, and their team at Steppler Farms, we have formulated bull development rations using the EMF Nutrition Blueprint Program. The Blueprint Program utilizes the study of Nutrigenomics to target animal health and production at the cellular level in order to unleash the full genetic potential of the bulls. We have focused on testicular development, rumen health, and vitamin/mineral nutrition to ensure fertility, performance, and longevity of the bulls in the new owners herd. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made. Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer s decision is final. Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Purchaser s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured. All two year old bulls must be delivered as soon as possible. Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made. Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. A $50 discount will be given if purchases are picked up sale day. Delivery in Manitoba is Free. Saskatchewan, Alberta and northern Ontario $100. Southern Ontario and eastern provinces $250. Bulls will be delivered across the International border for $500. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer s risk. STEPPLER Guarantee: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right Terms & Conditions and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. The purchaser must have the animal vet checked and if a problem is detected, the animal must be returned to Steppler Farms at the purchaser s expense. No incidental expenses such as feed, care, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to so prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement F.O.B. ranch or location of origin, or a sale credit of the actual price to be used at the next year s sale. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfillment of all guarantees and representations.
