From The Membership Circle Challunge on the Chain Entry Form IMTT Tourney Schedule March was a pretty exciting month for FRV. Ninety members and guests shook off the old and winter blues to attend our meeting featuring Spencer Berman and free pizza. Not sure whether it was Spencer or the pizza, but it was our largest meeting attendance in several years. We ended March with our Awards Banquet and Fundraiser. Again, we had record turnout with a complete sellout and some overflow of over 230 people. With a huge prize list of over $32,000 we were able to net over $20,000 for the club treasury. This will go a long way towards funding our club activities. Dave Van Doorn gave a nice presentation on Take A Vet Fishing and a Special Award was given to Diane Schneider, formally with Cabela s, for her generous support of club activities. A special shout out goes to all the sponsors that donated prizes to our event especially Alden Management Services, Inc which donated a check for $5,000. Thanks to all the Board members who donated their time and talents to make this event a success! Our membership continues to grow slowly but surely each month as new people come to our meetings and attend our events and find out what a great Chapter we are! On the news front, I hope you are paying attention to the ongoing battle over Muskie stocking in Minnesota. A local property owner on one of the lakes has recruited some state legislators to introduce a law allowing lake associations to determine whether a lake should be stocked or completely ban stocking. You can read about on the internet. Voice your opinion on this before a great Muskie fishery is destroyed. Locally a task force has been established to study the decline in Lake Shelbyville and determine what can be done to revive he fishery. And finally, I saw an interesting video on Facebook. A gentleman was ice fishing for walleye, when suddenly his Vexilar unit started moving towards the hole. He began pulling up the sonar unit and when he got it up to the hole a Muskie was hanging on. He got it through the ice and it turned out to be a 50x24 inch fish. That big girl just wouldn t let go! Every year something more unbelievable happens! I see that some of our members have been braving the cold temps and been out fishing. Hopefully we ll have some reports at our April meeting. We have our spring Challunge on the Chain coming up on May 19th. If you haven t registered get your application in as time seems to be flying by. There will also be an outing to Cave Run, Kentucky. If you re interested contact Dan Koniewicz. Our guest speaker this month is Rick Albers from Chaos Tackle. Hope you can attend and bring a friend! Till next month. Steve Kroll

8 P A G E 8 FRV MUSKIES INC. FROM THE MEMBERSHIP CORNER April! Where is the warm weather? It seems like the spring season drags-on and one day we wake-up to 60 degree temps. I am ready and I know you-all are ready. My boat is in storage and I plan to take it out around the 15 th. Most of us look forward to working on our boats, getting them ready for our first Spring-outing on the water, and then there are the die-hards, who have gone south to fish and they probably have been fishing the chain since the ice-out. No doubt they have already registered fish! Good for them! They are our inspiration! Speaking of inspiration, the past club meetings have been inspirational! I mean the attendance has been very good indeed. We must being doing something right as a club! It warms my heart to see good turn-outs, because we members on the board work hard to make FRV successful and your attendance is a testament to this. Sounds like I am getting a little sappy. OK I will stop. What we need is for more people to join the board, become part of the planning and decision making. It is not difficult or very time consuming. We need new ideas and your input. So come to a board meeting. They are held on the Wednesday following the general meeting at 6:00pm at Cabela s in one of the upstairs meeting rooms. As for Membership-please renew in a timely fashion, you might consider a 2 or 3 year renewal. Save a little money by doing so. We presently have 250 members and would like to increase this number to 280 members. You heard this from me before, bring a friend to the next meeting, and ask someone who likes to fish to come along. They will get something out of the meeting. We have good speakers and good members. Remember, I am always at the back to help with your renewal needs and I give away nice lures for renewing your membership in person. Frank Lucido Membership Director GOT PHOTOS?? It can be anything outdoor related, fishing photos, hunting, outdoor scenery, weather, sunsets, wildlife etc.. Any fish species is OK, it doesn t have to be just muskies! Please your photos to Rich Gallagher at rgallagher@awtlabelpack.com and we ll get it in the upcoming issues for you!
