We had over 40 volunteers, too many to mention everyone. Once again the event was a great success with a lot of kids and parents. Thanks Captain Mike. As we go through August we have the 24 hour tournament to look forward to and the New Member/ Member Fishing Clinic on the 22 nd. With the heat it s time to fish early morning If you missed July's meeting you missed a lot of..sugar, Sugar And More Sugar. We had our annual Ice Cream Social, with lots of yummy ice cream and wonderful toppings before the meeting and then during break we said farewell to our President Chuck G. and Vice President Chuck R with a Thank You For All Your Hard Work- cake. by: President Chris Davy or late afternoon, be sure to read Captain Jim s forecast to get an edge on what s hot when it comes to catching. This month is also time to start getting ready for the Inshore Tournament Sept. 26 th. I would love to see a big member turn out. Remember the fees go to good causes and it only takes one bait, and one cast to win. Help spread the word to get as many anglers as possible. See ya on the water. Chris Davy, President Other October Events 10th Surf Tourn. 17th Annual Picnic 26th Directors Meeting 31st Kayak Tourn. All general meetings are held At 7:30 pm the first Tuesday of each month at the VFW Post 47 Old Kings Road N. in Palm Coast

Whether in a boat, on the pier, or from the surf; fishing should be busy. From a boat the targets will be tarpon, sharks, and large jacks. All of these species can be found behind the shrimp boats as they dump their by-catch. When the shrimp boats are not active just run the beach looking for pogy pods (there will be plenty to choose from). Once a pod is spotted it will not take long to discover if there are fish underneath, so slowly approach and have live bait ready or use your favorite large artificial bait. Angler looking to get in on the action from the pier can also get shots at tarpon and sharks, in August. Pompano, flounder, bluefish, and drum will be found around the pier and from the surf as well. Offshore anglers will be targeting kingfish by trolling over wrecks and reefs. If the smokers are not around, drop an anchor to load up on black sea bass, snapper, and grouper. Further out dolphin and tuna will be found from 135 feet of water out to the ledge. The inshore bite will remain much the same. Get out early and target redfish along grass banks at higher tides and along oyster bars or sand bars at the lower tides. Trout can be found along the banks of the IWC and under docks. And don t forget to target flounder in creek mouths or bends on an outgoing tide. For yet another way to beat the heat give night fishing a try. Free line a shrimp under dock lights for trout or fish deeper for redfish and flounder. Norm Manley and his son after a morning of offshore fishing in Ocean City, Maryland during July. 4 By: Bill May In the small fishing village of Welaka Florida, you will find a marine dealership that was founded in the late 90s because boaters and fishermen were expressing their need for a quality dealer where they could find superior sales and service at reasonable prices. Like all of us, they were tired of spending a fortune on boats, motors and service for them and not necessarily feeling that they had gotten everything they expected. S & A Leisure was established to fill that void. The owners-scott & Taffy Smith and the entire crew are doing everything possible to live up to their motto-- HARD TO FIND BUT TOUGH TO BEAT. Currently, S & A Leisure carries several lines of new boats. If you are a bass fisherman, they carry Gambler boats and Sterling Competition Bass Boats that are known for quality construction, ride and efficiency. For saltwater or bigger water enthusiasts, they also carry ShearWater Bay Boats, another quality product. Then particularly appealing to many of our club members, they also carry Sterling Flats Boats which you cannot help but see in our area if you spend any time at all in the flats. They are also a Mercury Premier Dealer and a CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) award-winning dealer. This award alone speaks volumes for the quality of their Factory Authorized Service Department because it is not an award that is handed out to just anyone. It is earned. They also represent MotorGuide Marine, Power Pole and several other products. Another feature of S & A is the recent completion of their fully equipped Fiberglass Restoration Shop offering complete fiberglass repair and detailing-- a very necessary service in our harsh salt water environment but too seldom seen. This service can add years to the life of your existing boat and make it worth more when you finally decide to trade it in for a new one. Looking for a used boat, they have those too. You can bet that they have been serviced and are ready to go. So, take a short drive and say hello to one of our annual sponsors, S & A Leisure. Their address is 1300 North Highway 309, Welaka, FL Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Phone, (386) Support our sponsors because without them, we could not play as we do. The club s Kayak tournament that was previously scheduled for August 8 th, 2015, has been rescheduled for Halloween day, October 31 st, The tournament will run from 6:30 AM (lines in the water) to the close of the weigh-in at 3:30 PM. The weigh-in location has also been changed to Betty Steflick Park in Flagler Beach (across from the old Hurricane Patty's). Food will be served and there will be great raffle items, a 50/50 and a Bonus Raffle for all of the kayak fishermen that attend the weigh-in. Now everybody that wanted to fish both the 24 Hour Tournament and the Kayak Tournament can do so without deciding which one to miss. Look for more information in the September Chum Line and sign up for the catch, weigh and keep Kayak Tournament at the October 6 th general meeting at the VFW. I started fishing when I was two years old in Long Island, NY but I have called the Space Coast of Florida home for 20+ years and during that time I have fished everything from freshwater in small ponds and lakes to large bodies of water like Lake Okeechobee. But I have Saltwater in my blood and my home away from home is the Offshore and Inshore waters where I target the many game fish that the Atlantic Ocean, Indian and Banana Rivers and the Mosquito lagoon have to offer using light tackle Spin, Fly and Casting gear. I also host the Redfish Chuck Kayak Fishing Radio Show on Monday nights at 8pm where I get to share my passion for kayak fishing. I Pro Staff and write for Yakangler.com. I am a Regional Fishing Team Member for Hobie Kayaks, also I am a Pro staff member of power pole, Tackle Webs, Bending Branches, Slayer Inc Lure Co Accomplishments/Experience: My greatest Accomplishment in life is being a Father of two wonderful boys and the husband to a wonderful wife! I am the host of "The Redfish Chuck Show on Kayak Fishing Radio Show, and I have written for Yakangler.com, Florida Sportfishing Magazine and The Fisherman's Journal. 5 What a huge success the Kids Fishing Clinic has become. Our club members once again did an outstanding job of teaching kids from the age of 5 through 15 years old. Overall 150 new anglers were introduced to the world of fishing. This year not only did each new angler receive a new rod and reel (donated by Fish Florida) after they completed all the teaching stations they also received a small tackle box in the gift bag. A special thanks to Al La Monica and his family from Big Al s Bait and Tackle for donating a free hot dog, chips, and bottled water for each child. To all those club members who volunteered their time to help make this clinic the success it has become THANK YOU!!! Captain Mike Vickers, Weigh-Master

Welcome visitors/new Members: There were 3 guests/new members at the meeting. Announcements/New Business: Chris Davy did a wrap up of the Guys & Dolls tournament, these results and pictures were published in the July issue of the Chum Line. We will pay out at the tournaments in a separate raffle when no one brings in the fish allotted for the winning category. At the Guys & Dolls tournament, Ellen Scheurer won the 50/50 and she donated it back to the club. Thank you Ellen! In place of the Kayak Tournament, there will be a Halloween Kayak Tournament. This will not be a catch, photo and release tournament. There will be further details on the tournament at a later date. Offshore tournament resulted in 1st place total weight being 41 lbs and 7 oz. CJ Johnston & Lauren Bennett won for most weight, Wayne & Mary Ellen won for most species with 5 species, Gene Morrow won for biggest fish with an Amberjack, and Shay Morrow won for a 26.2 Amberjack. CJ also won for 8 species of fish caught and 18 lb 14 oz largest fish. News: Chris made the announcement for any new members who have not received their club membership cards to see Bruce Bandes for them. Chris also mentioned that club member, Matanzas Jim is a watchdog for any changes in fishing laws or other items of interest that need attention that will benefit the fishing community. Permits have been issued to reopen the inlet by Summerhaven and he thinks it should stay open and to let people know your opinion about it. Bottom Trip Recap: Tim Miller said there were 36 members and guests on the Sea Spirit out of Ponce Inlet. Big red snappers were caught but had to be released as this year they are not opening the red snapper season to keep them. Winners and pictures are also in the July Chum Line. Announcement was made that Ken is putting together a fishing trip on the boat, Jodie Lynn out of St. Augustine with Cpt. Johnson running the boat. The date of the trip is July 29 th. Weigh Master Report and fishing half truths: Capt. Mike Vickers spoke about the Year Long Tournament, it runs from 1/01/15 until 12/31/15. Big fish wins-the largest fish in that category. The year long & the ladies division can only win one category. Don t look at first place, look at the whole picture. Year Long Rules and club records will be published in the Chum Line. Kids Clinic: We expect a good turnout this year, kids will be coming in from Georgia and Alabama. Clinic will be held at Herschel King Park from 9 AM-12 PM, attendance possible for this year is 250 kids. We hold the largest clinic in NE Florida. Volunteers need to be at the park by 7:30 AM. Mike will need help with parking, traffic control, would like to have someone with a van to ferry the people from the main road into the park. There will be 2 banners at main road to direct people into the park. There will be free hot dogs donated by Big Al s Bait Shop for the kids. We need to get kids interested in fishing, to help keep fishing alive in our area. Sign up sheet for the volunteers will be at the back table. Kids Fishing Tournament: Hank Alper told us the kids will get a raffle ticket and names will be drawn for a catch & release, fishing trip on a boat captained by one of our club members. Trip is on 7/25 he has 9 boats signed up so far and will make some more calls for more boats. He got one more member at this meeting, so now he has 10. Tickets are pulled a week before the trip. In the past there have been some problems with people getting picked and then the child was not available or not in the area. Sign will be placed at the registration table asking that if child is not available or in area, not to take a ticket. Dean Roberts and John Falter will do the cooking, so Capt. Mike Vickers can take out a child and parent. Trip will be out of Bings Landing, not Herschel Park. 27 th Annual Inshore Fall Tournament: John Falter introduced Ron Starks to speak about the group, Gratitude America. This is a group that works out of Marineland and it provides rest and recreation for families and PSTD veterans. Ron was a recipient of one of these get aways and we are going to use this organization as our charity for the fall tournament. John November gets paid from this organization, because he is their lawyer, all other donations go to the vets. We will have another speaker from this organization at next month s meeting. Dana gave us a $1,000 sponsor check for this tournament from CCI Insurance. John will give us further information about the Captain s meeting, weigh -in location and sponsors when he gets it. Break: Whatever ice cream that was left was offered again. Just before the break, Chuck & Pat Gleichmann and Chuck & Wanda Radloff were presented with plaques, the ladies with flower bouquets and they also got a cake. This was for their past service in the club as president & vice president and for all the help the wives provided also. We greatly appreciate their stepping up and taking a position of authority in the club, they and are great people to know. The Chucks will continue on our board of directors and help mentor the rest of us. Thanks again! Guest Speaker: Captain Rob Ottlein spoke about catching snook. He advised us that you are able to catch them during the daytime. He advised us on what bait and the tackle and Fish Scents to use for the best catch of the day. He brought live shrimp and showed us how to hook it in the head and avoid putting it through the brain and thus killing your bait. As always, his demonstration and expertise was enjoyed by all. 50/50 Winner & Raffle drawing: $85.00 was won by Walt Huresky, knife with club logo on it was won by Rod Fonseca Meeting was adjorned at: 9:30 PM
