2 GM Report We enjoyed a great July on the mountain. Thank you all for participating in our events at the club. We had an awesome turnout at the Member-Member, Senior Championship, Mingo Night, Caribbean Night, and many others. Eagles Mere Country Club even had its first Bocce Tournament! Our July picnic and fireworks show was a huge success again this year. We had 750 people join us for the festivities. It is an incredible night to showcase our club and what a wonderful fireworks display we enjoyed. July was a blast, but the summer isn t over! The fun will continue at the club. Check out the schedule of events on the website for both golf and the clubhouse to be sure you don t miss out. REMINDER Our annual meeting for the club will be held on August 27th at 2:00pm. Hope you can join us. I want to thank our entire board for the hard work and effort they have provided our club over the past year. So many projects have been completed throughout the past year and they simply would not have been possible without our board of directors and committees. Enjoy your August and hopefully you can spend it on the mountain! Our team looks forward to being with you throughout the month. See you on the tee, Seth Members! Sunday, August 27th will be our Annual Meeting 2pm Hatha Yoga Join Hatha Yoga instructor Joan McNalley at the Fitness Center every Wednesday at 9am. Any questions on this class please contact the business office. Assistant GM Report Summer is here and having fun in the sun continues at EMCC. There are several events yet to come, so please review this Newsletter for all the details. We will be mailing out the Annual Meeting notice and proxy to elect the 2018 Board of Directors. Please return as soon as you are able. This meeting will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 2:00pm. During this meeting, the membership will be asked to approve 2016 s Annual Meeting minutes. You may find a copy of these minutes on our web portal. If you have any trouble viewing, please let me know Night Golf Act 39 of 2016 enacted new laws to the Pennsylvania liquor code that all licensees must follow. All servers of alcohol must now complete Responsible Alcohol Management Program (RAMP) training. For this reason, we are asking if you are bringing a young adult to the club who wishes to be served alcohol please be sure they are carrying proper identification. As always, we are happy to mail out a packet or contact anyone whom you feel may be a prospect for membership. If you know someone that may be interested in receiving information about our club please contact the Business Office. I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer. Marge

3 Clubhouse Notes Notes from the Clubhouse Manager Welcome August! The summer is quickly going by but we still have many events for you and your family to enjoy. The July events saw many members and guests in attendance. Our 4th of July celebration was held on July 2nd with great attendance (over 750!) and PERFECT weather. The fireworks were spectacular!! Our Monday Family Dinners are proving to be popular once again and we encourage you to bring your family and friends for a delicious theme meal throughout the month of August: New Orleans festival, turkey (of course), fish fry and Chinese are on the menu for the next few weeks. Our kitchen staff has been busy creating new menu ideas and you have rewarded them with your excellent feedback regarding food items and presentation. Thank you! Your kind words are very much appreciated. Let s not forget the desserts. Our baker has been preparing awesome treats for you and will continue to do so. We have homemade ice cream and your server will tell you the flavor(s) of the day. 8 Tips from your Golf Professional Putting Key fundamentals -Keep your eyes over the ball -Let your arms hang -Keep ball position slightly forward of center -Your body should be square to your intended target -Commit to the putt you want to hit. A confident stroke is a must to become successful on the greens. -DRILL Practice with your eyes closed to feel the stroke rather than worrying about the hit of the ball. Good luck, Seth USGA Rule of the Month A player strikes his ball into high grass and properly plays a provisional ball. He prefers to continue play with the provisional ball but a fellow-competitor announces that the original ball is found in less than five minutes of search. The player refuses to identify the ball that is found. What is the ruling? Explanation: While a player is not required to look for his original ball, if it may be found before the provisional ball becomes the ball in play, the player must identify the ball before continuing play with the provisional ball. He must inspect the ball that was found; if a player has dishonestly not identified a ball that is his, the Committee should disqualify the player. See Decision 27/13. 10 Golf Notes Golf Committee We are in the midst of a fantastic golf summer here on the mountain. The weather conditions have been very good for our greens and fairways.warm days, cooler nights and ample moisture. Don and his crew have done a wonderful job keeping the course in top playing condition, and the outstanding state of the grounds reflects their hard work. Please be sure to repair ball marks and divots promptly, so that they do not dry out and leave permanent marks on tees, fairways and greens. Make use of the divot mix on tees and carts whenever possible. The number of rounds for June was strong, with 1452, although that is slightly down from last year. July looks very good, given that weather has improved dramatically and we ve seen a full tee sheet. July has definitely been a great month for special events at the club. For night golf, we had 24 participants, and Seth is again working with the EMAA and LMA on junior clinics to provide opportunities for new golfers and visitors to Eagles Mere/Lake Mokoma. Our junior program continues to be a shining star at EMCC. Check the calendar for regular junior clinics and special events. We are looking forward to the Member-Member event, with the largest field so far in the history of the tournament. The Junior Club Championship had 20 participants and congratulations go out to our winners. In the 4-hole event, Tripp Pursel is our Champion, with Conrad Weeman taking second. In the 9-hole event, Teddy Seitz is our Champion and Hannah Rabb is our runner-up. In the 18-hole division, Mark Farrell Jr. is this year s Champ and John Paul Lynch took second. What a great turnout with some fantastic junior golf, and a special thanks to all the parents who helped out and cheered on our junior golfers. We re very pleased that the junior program has developed into such an important part of golf on the mountain. Congratulations go out to our 2017 Stroke Play Champions. Diann Pursel is our Ladies Champion, and Suzanne Lee is our runner-up. Low net winner is Katrina Wilkins. In the men s event, John Easton took the win this year, and Mark Stockdill came in second. Tom Kitchen is our low net winner. In our Men s Senior Club Championship, our winner for 2017 is Steve Ryan, and our runner-up is Bob McNutt. Again, participation was excellent in these events, so thank you to all who joined in. We appreciate your continued efforts to maintain pace of play. With just a few exceptions, we have seen a consistently good pace, even in tournament play. Men s League and Ladies Day events are seeing excellent participation, and Seth is offering clinics regularly. Check the golf calendar on our website for all the great upcoming events, including the Match Play Championship, the Men s Better Ball, and the Ryder/Solheim Cup. Please sign up early for all of our events and be aware of deadlines. Twilight and Family Friday events remain popular. Please make sure to let Seth know in advance if you will be participating, so that he can staff accordingly. The pro shop staff is doing a great job this year, keeping carts and clubs clean, organizing tournaments and clinics, and helping things run smoothly at the club. Please be sure to take care of the folks who make our experience at EMCC a positive one. Thank you all for your support. Art Pursel and your EMCC Golf Committee Greens Committee The Greens Committee would like to remind all golfers of 2 very important issues facing our beautiful course. We would like to urge all members to pick up their broken tees and deposit them into a trash can. Broken tees are not good for the machinery that mows the course. Additionally, for the golfers who smoke cigarettes and/or cigars. Please do not leave you cigarette or cigar butts on the course. Just like the tees they take many years to decompose and leave an unattractive mess on the course. Thank you to everyone who continues to repair divots and fix the ball marks on the greens. Enjoy the rest of the summer. Rodd Melzer Greens Committee Chairman
