We will continue to offer a variety of craft beers on tap for the season featuring local breweries. We will be working with these breweries to bring you beer tastings and tap takeovers throughout the season. 8 GOLF NEWS Golf Shop Hours May-Sept Mon Fri 7:30-6:30 Sat and Sun 7:00-6:30 Congrats to our Second Assistant Golf Professional, Kade Logue, for graduating college in May! He graduated from California University of Pennsylvania. Kade was an intern with us a few years ago and this is his first full season with us as our second assistant. Golf Cart Traffic Please take a minute to recall our golf cart traffic pattern at the golf shop. Traffic patterns are shown on the diagram below. Thank you for your cooperation. USGA Rule of the Month Check out the major rule changes coming in 2019! rules-modernization/major-changes/major-changes.html Note from Golf Committee We ask that golfers please try to walk to the driving range for practice sessions. Take a few clubs by hand for your trip to the range. This will help with cart traffic and staging at the pro shop. Thank you for your cooperation. Golf Shop Staff 2018 Pro Shop First Assistant Kal Logue Second Assistant Kade Logue Shop Assistant Nick Roberts PGM Intern Austin Smith Outside Operations: Maurice Brown Levi Myers Mark Farrell Nick Tobin
9 GOLF NEWS Golf Shop Hours May-Sept Mon Fri 7:30-6:30 Sat and Sun 7:00-6:30 Greens Committee We would like to welcome everybody back to EMCC for the 2018 season. Thank you all for staying off the course during the extra rainy spring days. Although the rain has been inconvenient; we all know it s vital to a healthy course. We look forward to the new #12 upper tee being open. During the fall we will begin to address the other par 3 s starting with #4. Additionally you will notice divot sand boxes on #10 & #11 tee boxes please use them. Please remember to fix all ball marks on the green if you can t find yours fix someone else s. Sand is provided on all the carts for divots made. It s probably best that you use the sand rather than attempting to replace the divot. More times than not the mower chews it up. Please after using the practice range if you have caused any divots, apply the dirt seed mixture so grass can grow for the next person (the mixture is in the containers on the back of the tee range area). A couple of hot points: The greens will continue to be mowed at the same length as prior years. Tee box leveling is a long term goal. In the interim we will continue to level them out the best we can. The fairways are the same width as prior years, just with more definition rather than a rectangle. Our goal is to keep the course as original as possible to the initial design. The rough will be the same length as prior years: 2 ½ inches (this is tame by other course standards in our area the normal rough cut at most clubs is 3+ inches.). Please remember, Don Keefer s crew of 5 or 6 takes care of the entire course. The rough normally gets mowed midweek (weather permitting). If you are playing on Monday or Tuesday it will be higher. If we get a lot of rain it will be thicker. As always my team and I welcome any questions or concerns. The Greens Committee takes them seriously and we will do our best to implement a solution. Our goal is to have a course that is playable for all ages and skill levels. Please continue to wave to Don and his crew. They work hard and take great pride in the course that they maintain for us. Let s treat it the same way! Enjoy the season. Rodd Melzer Greens Chairman
10 GOLF NEWS Golf Shop Hours May-Sept Mon Fri 7:30-6:30 Sat and Sun 7:00-6:30 Golf Committee Notes: Welcome back to the mountain, golfers! We have a full golf calendar posted on our website, so check out all the events we have planned for 2018, and be sure to get registered. Upcoming tournaments are the Men s Member-Guest in June and the Men s and Ladies Member-Member in July. The fields for these great events fill quickly, and we already have a full field of teams for the Member-Guest. Right now there is a short waiting list, so if you are interested in being added, please reach out to the pro shop right away. Tournament registration deadlines will be strictly observed. Look for a new format for Ladies Day this season that allows participants to form groups or join in with golfers that they have not played with. We re hoping that we will see many new faces this year. For those interested in getting involved, check in with the pro shop. The Junior Program will feature two day schools and weekend clinics at the club, as well as some fantastic events. Seth and his staff will also be conducting clinics with EMAA and LMA again this season. Seth has developed a certification program for our junior golfers. He has a rules test, as well as a playing test that juniors can complete. We re pleased to announce that our pro shop staff is all set for this season. Kal Logue is returning for this season, his brother Kade has also joined the staff as a new assistant, and we have a new intern joining us. His name is Austin Smith and he attends California University of PA. Nick Roberts, Levi Myers and Mark Farrell will be returning, and look for Maurice Brown and Nick Tobin handling outside operations. Give the staff a warm welcome when you are at the pro shop, and don t forget to take care of these folks. They diligently keep things running smoothly throughout the season. Unfortunately this spring has been extremely wet, and we have had to cancel the Ice Breaker and the Pro-Am due to rain. Because of the wet conditions, golfers must strictly obey cart signs. We ask that golfers please repair ball marks on the greens if possible please repair your mark plus one other. On the course, please be sure to repair divots. All carts have divot mix, which should be used both in the fairway and the rough. For walkers, please replace your divot if possible, since an immediate repair has a chance of reestablishing itself. Thank you to all our members for continued pace of play improvement. The pro shop will continue to monitor pace, with a target playing time of under four hours. Our goal is to enhance the EMCC golf experience and the dress code will be strictly enforced this season. Come to the course prepared to play in appropriate golf attire. Gentlemen must tuck in shirts, and cargo shorts are not permitted. Every private club has a dress code, and please remember that guests also need to follow our rules. Members are responsible for their guests behavior and attire. Infractions of dress code rules can result in suspension of playing privileges. The dress code is posted on our website. Golfers who sign up for major tournament play are expected to fulfil their commitment and finish each tournament. This is particularly important for multi-day events, where brackets and matches become disrupted by attrition. Naturally emergency situations are an exception, but if golfers fail to complete major tournaments for which they have signed up and begun participating, playing privileges in future major events will be suspended. Frank Schetroma is our Handicap Chair, and will be diligently reviewing scores to assure that handicaps remain accurate. Be sure to post your scores from the winter months, and don t forget about the on-line option that allows members to post electronically. We are excited to again have our seasonal cart program in place, so that members are able to fix their cart expense for the season. Seth and his team can answer questions that you may have and provide details. Finally, please do your best to keep range balls out of the woods, particularly on the left side of the driving range. This has been an ongoing and costly issue for our club. Thank you for supporting the EMCC events this season, and we look forward to seeing you at the Club. Art Pursel and your EMCC Golf Committee
