December was an extremely busy month at the club and I would like to congratulate the staff for their above and beyond service to the membership and guests. We are so excited to have an array of new social and golf events planned this year. 8 Hello from the course.. The greens were painted as we planned and so far they seem to be holding up very well. We will be touching up some areas as needed during the coldest months and gearing up to have a great spring. We had some great success with the winter weed control program. We have already touched up a few wet areas where the Poa Annua thrives during the winter. We will be touching up a few more places with all the rainy weather prior to our first golf event in February. We are going to tackle a few detail projects on the course over January. We have never really deep cleaned the azalea bed on the course. With the loss of all the trees we really need the azaleas to stand out and help complete the picture of a pretty course. All the volunteer trees (hardwoods and pines) that are growing in the azaleas will be removed first. After the spring we will aggressively cut the Azaleas back and complete the cleansing process. We don t want to cut the Azaleas now as we will remove all the blooms for the coming spring. The ball marks are really showing up as the extra rains are keeping the greens softer than we would like. We will be applying a light top-dress just after New Year s Day to help smooth the surface. The ball marks that are not repaired will really stand out and cause putting problems until we get them all repaired. Take Care, Hampton Kicklighter Jr. CGCS FROM THE PRO SHOP JANUARY 2019 Continuing our focus on the new 2019 USGA Rules of Golf, this month features changes regarding Playing a Ball and When to Play During a Round. The major changes are as follows: Playing a Ball Caddie Standing Behind a Player to Help Line the Player Up (Rule 10.2) A caddie is not allowed to stand on a line behind you while you are taking your stance and until your stroke is made. Caddie Lifting Ball on the Putting Green (Rule 14.1) Your caddie may lift and replace your ball on the putting green without your specific authorization to do so. Ball Accidentally Struck More Than Once During a Stroke (Rule 10.1) If your club accidentally strikes your ball more than once during a stroke, there will be no penalty and your ball will be played as it lies. When to Play During a Round Encouraging Prompt Pace of Play (Rule 5.6) Marlene It is recommended that you play ready golf and make each stroke in no more than 40 seconds. Maximum Score Form of Stroke Play (Rule 21.2) A new Maximum Score form of stroke play is recognized, where your score for a hole is capped at a max score. 569 In addition to these informational tidbits from the Pro Shop each month, the USGA has arranged for onsite training at several locations around the state, starting January 23 and ending February 21.
