It has been an extremely hot and sticky summer which may be great for vacationers and local businesses but is not so good for golf courses. I would like to applaud Glen and his staff for maintaining the course in great shape through out this extreme weather. I would also like to thank Andy and his staff for the impressive job they have done with the food and beverage operation this summer. I have only heard rave reviews about the food at all the tournaments including those that push the envelope because of their size. Lastly, I will thank, on behalf of all of the Cripple Creek members, Brian and the clubhouse staff. We have had 45 different tournaments since June 1st a remarkable number and all have received high marks regarding how well they were managed and how much fun they were for the participants. So Kudos to you all. September also means it is time again to select the future Board members you want to represent you going forward. Please don't forget to vote before the Annual Meeting of the Members scheduled for September 10, 2016 at the Clubhouse. In addition to the normal Board of Directors vote we have asked you to please vote on some changes to the By-laws. The information you received explains why these changes are necessary so please take the time and vote. TREASURER REPOR T by George Walsh One again, congrats to the team for a great The start of 2016 was a bit shaky as the weather in May put us back a bit, along with a slight drop in membership that is below the 2016 assumptions. Our current financial position, as of August 2016, is in the black but our year end operating profit forecast falls short by $35,000. As always, I encourage all our members to talk to potential new members, have them speak with Brian and/or Megan and take advantage of the current lower initiation fee. Bring potential members out for a round. The course sells itself. Hope you all had a great summer. 4 Page 4 GREENS COMMITTEE REPORT by Peter Fronczek The past several weeks of severe weather have been a challenge for Superintendent Glen MacDonald, his staff, and for the golf course. Fortunately, Cripple Creek is doing better than most courses in our area. That does not mean the golf course is not showing signs of wear and tear, particularly on several greens and green surrounds. Now that we have finally seen a break in the hot humid weather, recovery steps are underway. Several greens have been reseeded in areas that lost grass and reseeding of others will follow as needed. Topdressing of greens is also taking place. Spraying for goose grass, nut sedge and other weeds, which had to wait for more benign weather conditions, is ongoing. It will take time to fully recover as the necessary steps can only be taken when conditions allow. Fall aeration will begin the week of September 12. Glen will use ½ inch tines on the greens this time compared to the ¼ inch tines used in the spring. The smaller tines were used because we did aeration in conjunction with dryjecting the greens. Dryjecting uses high pressure water to inject sand under the green s surface and is only done as part of our spring aeration program. HEAD TEACHING PROFESSIONAL by John Lynch Stability Throughout the Golf Swing Stability throughout the golf swing is sometimes overlooked and misunderstood. Understanding the process of stability could be one of the solutions to staying on plane and better ball striking. Having incredible stability throughout the golf swing-what does that mean? What that means is that your lower body and core muscles are engaged throughout the whole movement of the swing. The stability that is created will support the muscle grouping that is engaged on the takeaway and downswing plane. Without stability your golf swing will be loose and uncontrollable. Examples like coming over the top and swinging past parallel are examples of not having stability throughout the golf swing. In order to create better stability one would have to target the areas of weakness. Having strong lower body muscles like the quadriceps and hamstrings would be the area to start focusing on. Simply stretching these areas and/or going on a small walk in the morning or evening would be a way to develop a stronger lower body. Better stability can also be created with stronger lower abdominal muscles. These can be developed by doing crunches at the house or using a physcio ball. Having strong core muscles are the source to stability throughout the golf swing. Stability in the lower body will allow the player to avoid sway and over rotating on the takeaway. Maintaining and engaging the core muscles will allow for a more controlled swing plane on the downswing. Stability throughout the golf swing is so important to understand and learn. The process to develop stability can be learned and will allow the player to have a more efficient, effective and tighter golf swing. If you have any questions at all regarding stability and developing core muscles please feel free to call me at or me at lynchlinks1@hotmail.com. Remember Expect to Improve at JohnLynchGolf.
5 GOLF COMMITTEE REPOR T by Glen Reid Page 5 Well, first things first. I have a retraction to make. Winners of the Jack and Jill tournament actually were Tappy Phillips, Randy Verasco, John Grimberg, and Mike Tanguay. Many apologies, and congrats to them! August, picked up where July left off, with extremely high temperatures, but that did not deter the Cripple Creek golfers. In July and August we had wonderful turn-out on the course. Cart sales were spectacular!! Roger Sheets took top honors in Men s League this year, with John Madigan as Runner-up and Glenn Chisholm finishing 3 rd. The Lady s and Men s Member Guest tournaments were again, sell-out events, and featured some great golf and fabulous after-play activities. Clear your calendars for next year. This year s Men s champions were repeaters. Congratulations to, John and son Bill Pearson, and the Ladies winning team of Lynn Casey and her guest Carol Morris, and Cathy de Villiers and her guest Carol Crampton-Huber. Our Club Championship Weekend was very exciting. The Men s championship was won for the second year in a row by Nate Haney, narrowly beating out Jeff Baxter. Our Ladies champion this year is Joy Koons who won in a thrilling 5-hole sudden death playoff with Donna Pierce. Congratulations to our winners and runners-up. Well done to all! Our Junior Golf Program was even bigger and better than last year. Thank you to Assistant Golf Pro, Ryan Diehl and Intern, Nate Haney for all their hard work they put into the program. The only hiccup was the cancellation of Grandparent/Parent/Junior tournament, due to extremely high temperatures that day. For the third month in a row we have not had any Holes-In-One. What gives? Temperatures are still high, and conditions on the course warrant your thoughtfulness, so please continue to keep electric carts on the cart paths, and in the fairways whenever possible. And my monthly plea to everyone: Fill your divots Fix your ball mark on the green, and any others you see Keep carts away from greens and tee boxes and heed the cart signs Also, for you gentlemen: please use the comfort stations not the trees!! Brian sent out a note regarding our Local Rule allowing the tamping down of spike marks on the green, prior to putting your ball. Our petition to the USGA for this Local Rule was denied, and we therefore had to rescind this Local Rule. Please take care on the greens not to scuff your feet or make spike marks, and if you do, repair them before leaving the green. Nate Haney Mens Club Championship Winner Joy Koons Ladies Club Championship Winner

7 Page 7 GENERAL MANAGERS REPORT by Brian Trout September ushers in a change of season, both weather wise and with those that are here at the club. Whether you are a Year round or Seasonal member, many of you use the club primarily over the summer months. With that, it won t be long before you are going back to the city or heading south (or west) for the winter. It s been a great summer season and we wish you all the best over the coming months. For those of us that are here year round, the Fall is a fantastic time of year in our area, and a great time to play golf! Make sure to take a look at the club s activities as there is still plenty going on now through the Holidays. Congratulations to our Club Champions Nate Haney and Joy Koons, and Senior Club Champions Jeff Baxter and Donna Pierce. This is Nate s third championship in a row, and Joy s first Club Championship win. Jeff and Donna are both repeat winners, with Jeff having won the Senior three times and Donna a five time winner four in a row! It s been a busy summer full of tournaments and events. We have run over 50 golf events, which includes Ladies Day s, Men s League, major club tournaments, etc. over the course of June-August. That, along with the increased amount of normal play, has helped to get make-up for some of the loss in May (due to the poor Spring weather). Our hope is that this trend will continue with nice Fall weather, alone with bringing in more prospective members to the club. Make sure to keep getting the word out there about the benefits of being a member at the Club. MENS MEMBER-GUEST
