Friendships are made and renewed in these home and away mixers, and that is what MISGA is all about. 4 Page 4 CCWGA 9 HOLE by Judie Davis The Nine Hole Golf Group concluded their official season with lunch and their Fall Business meeting on Tuesday, October 24. New officers were elected as follows: President ~ Adele Fronczek Vice President ~ Gail Fallick Secretary/Treasurer ~ Judy Marcucilli Look for information in the April Chronicle for startup information and consider joining this fun group of ladies. The 9 hole lady golfers presented gifts of appreciation to Judie Davis, Jean Hipps and Aimee Marvel to thank them for their 9 years of service as their President, Vice President, and statistician. Signup sheet will be located in the lobby with lunch choices in late November/early December $16 per person ~ includes lunch and dessert 11am social hour ~ lunch served at noon Bridge will continue throughout the fall months on Fridays beginning at 10AM. Deadline for signups is Wednesday at 6PM to get a seat for Friday's game. Call Judie Davis ( ) or Aimee Marvel ( ) to reserve your seat.

5 Page 5 GOLF COMMITEE REPORT by Glen Reid October has been wonderfully similar to September. We have had many great days to be on the golf course, and the course is in the best shape you could hope for. The Ladies 9-Holers finished up their season and congratulations to Ryan Diehl and George and Ruth Vernim for their victory in the year end twilight scramble. Many thanks to Judie Davis for her many years of service and leadership with this group of ladies. Adele Fronczek has been tabbed to take over the reins for next year. Adele will also replace Judie on the Golf Committee. In addition to Adele, the Golf Committee welcomes new members, Randy Verasco, and Gene Karwacki. Due to the great weather we have had this past month, the Delaware State Golf Assn. (DSGA) has extended the Active Golf Season to November 15 th. This means that until that date, all of your scores for rounds played, both 18-hole and 9-hole, should be posted. After that, handicaps will be frozen until next year. There was a little-known tournament held at the Club in October. This tournament was a fierce competition between the Grounds staff, captained by Glen McDonald and the House staff captained by Andy Beebe. This year the trophy goes to the House staff with their star, bar manager Brian Fleming, leading the way. This past weekend, we had our final tournament of the season, the Fall Member-Member. It had to be postponed from 2 weeks ago due to weather, but this weekend, the weather was spectacular, and the participation was outstanding. Congratulations to Preston Godfrey and Buddy Bromley the overall winner with the winning Low Net score of 62, and Mike Robel and Hal Ritter won the Low Gross prize with a score of 73. Congrats also go out to the winners of the Women s Division, Dot Seling and Linda Zadjura (64), as well as all the Flight winners.

6 GREENS COMMITTEE REPORT by Pete Fronczek Page 6 Anyone around the Club this past week or so has noticed the start of work on the Short-Game Practice Facility Project. The project involves the construction of a chipping area, pitching area, and bunker play area, as well as a redesign of the 18 th hole. Details of the project can be viewed on a display board in the lobby of the clubhouse. The first step in the project is the removal of several trees along the 18 th hole and behind the 18 th green. Removing trees always generates questions from the membership, so I d like to take the opportunity to reiterate our tree management policy in general, and specifically what we are doing related to the 18 th hole. The primary reason we remove trees is to improve turf health in areas where the number of trees is excessive causing problems with the turf not getting proper sunlight and/or air flow. This is of particular concern around our greens. A second reason for removal is to improve the overall health of our trees. We have many areas where the trees are growing so close together that all of them suffer. Superintendent Glen MacDonald and his staff thin out these areas allowing the remaining trees to flourish. Finally, any trees that present a safety risk to people or property, or that negatively affect playability are removed. The USGA fully endorses this approach. A secondary benefit to having fewer trees, particularly those that drop large seed pods, is less damage to mowing equipment and less time spent on clean-up after storms and leaf pick-up in the fall. This allows funds to be used for course improvements rather than routine maintenance. Specifically related to what we are doing on the 18 th hole, the new design of the hole calls for the moving of the fairway several yards to the right and for a new green at around the current 100 yard marker. Trees have to be removed to accommodate these changes. A new putting green will be built to the right of the back of the current 18 th green which will be converted to a pitching green. To give these two greens the best chance to thrive most of the trees in the area need to be removed. We ask members to focus on the entire practice facility project and its overall benefit to the Club. The plan was developed by a well-respected design team and reviewed by the USGA, a private consultant, and several superintendents. When the project is finished in late spring, Cripple Creek will have the finest and most complete practice facility in the area. Thank you to all the dedicated volunteers that participated this season! The effort was fantastic, we hope that you will join the program again next year! 7 CCWGA 18 HOLE by Joan VanDerbeek Page 7 Small Plate Menu Offerings Beginning at 5PM CC women s 18-hole 2017 golf season came to a close with a fun filled game. Each hole played as a par 3, ranging from 76 yards 158 yards. Golf was followed by lunch, business meeting and awards ceremony. Sue Bennett made October her second hole 13th in one this year on Closing day. She used her Patio gap wedge & Pub to cover Seating the 76 yards on the 12th hole. What an incredible accomplishment, Congratulations Sue! Sign Will up you by share calling your secret? Sue also received a trophy for our most Improved player for 2017 and two hole-in one Pins. ext. 2 Sandy Bunting received a gift certificate for the most birdies this year, a total of 11. Donna Murray or won 2 nd place with 10 birdies and Jan Parsons 3 rd place with 7 birdies.
