President s Message Dear Members, September is here, the kids are back in school, and hopefully it will be a cooler, calmer month than we had with August!

It was amazing to see the membership that came out and worked together for days to clean up our course and get it playable. The heat and the magnitude of the damage seemed overpowering at times.

2 President s Message Dear Members, September is here, the kids are back in school, and hopefully it will be a cooler, calmer month than we had with August! Welcome to all of our new members and thank you for your patience and understanding this month. The storm damage to the course was a trying time for the Club. It was amazing to see the membership that came out and worked together for days to clean up our course and get it playable. The heat and the magnitude of the damage seemed overpowering at times. But, the devotion and camaraderie of our members was evident as they pulled together and got the job done. The Board can not thank the members2531 enough for all of their hard work and donation of personal equipment during this time. This action has definitely saved the Club money and time in the difficult clean-up. Cimarron and the rest of the staff have done an amazing job throughout this difficult time. There are several great tournaments and events on the calendar this month. Be sure to sign up early before they are full. Bring your friends out and enjoy a round of golf and our Club! 3 Manager s Message By now I am sure everyone is aware of the storm damage that the golf course received on Friday night, August 11 th. The Club lost a large number of trees and suffered extensive damage to the pump house on hole #2. This resulted in a massive amount of debris across the golf course and loss of irrigation for approximately four2609days.this occurrence set the Club back in many ways, but one thing was very apparent.the membership of Maumelle Country Club is truly unique! I would like to extend my gratitude to all of the volunteers and staff that worked countless hours enduring the hot temperatures. Special thanks to Robert Denton, Mike Hocutt and Mike Goodson for donating their heavy equipment and to Craig Cougill for donating the new roof for the Pump House. Jason Baker and his staff have done a remarkable job, despite this set-back, and will continue working hard to get the golf course back in the best playable condition possible for the membership. Labor Day is here and that means that the summer is coming to a close. Make plans to join us at the End of Summer Celebration by the pool on Labor Day. There will be great food, fun and entertainment for the whole family. See the front page of the newsletter for more information. The swimming pool will close for the season on Sunday, September 10 7:00 pm. Special thanks to Wayne Reed and his staff for the job they did at the pool this year! The Razorback Football season officially kicks off on Saturday, September 2 nd. In observance of this holy day, MCC will be holding a watch party in the Mixed Grill. For those of you not traveling to the game, please feel free to join us in cheering the Hogs on to victory. A limited menu and Happy Hour prices will be available during the game. The 2006 MCC Swingaroo Member-Guest is scheduled for October 6 th October 8 th. The Tournament Committee has made a change to the format and has spent long hours to ensure that this will be one of the best events yet! Invitations will be arriving soon so do not hesitate in getting signed-up, as this event will fill up quickly. Use this opportunity to showcase MCC to a friend, client or potential member. Golf will be available to non-participants after tournament play, but the clubhouse will be closed to non-participants due to Member-Guest functions. I would personally like to thank Membership/Special Events coordinator, Renata Partin for her short, but much appreciated time spent at Maumelle Country Club. As can happen with any great employee, Renata was lured away from MCC to accept a position with another company, Regions Morgan Keegan Trust in Little Rock. Her dedication and professionalism will be truly missed and we wish her the best in her new endeavor. Congratulations to the Employees of the Month: June-Ashley Cox, Mixed Grill; July Dustin Hamm, Assistant Golf Professional. I encourage all members to continue to frequent the Club and bring your guests and potential members out to show them everything that MCC has to offer. 4 From the Pro Shop The driving range net was damaged due to the storm on Friday, August 11 th. The replacement of the net is covered under our insurance, but it is a timely process that will take approximately 3-4 weeks to complete once our insurance claim has been finalized. Please limit your practice to irons only until the net has been replaced. Thank you for your cooperation. The 2006 Swingaroo Member-Guest invitations will be sent out in the next few days. Don t hesitate to sign up for this event. This year s tournament promises to be a great time for all involved. The dates are October 6 th - October 8th. Get that friend or potential member and come play. Austin Crawford won the 12 and under Arkansas State Closed Tennis Championship and has been invited to play in the Junior Davis Cup Championship for Arkansas this month in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Taylor Loeb won the 8 and under Girls US Kids World Championship qualifie r at Russellville Country Club and advanced to Pinehurst, North Carolina where she played 9 holes for three days and competed against girls from 33 countries. Taylor also finished first in the girls 8 and under division by shooting 70 & 71 and won the Oxford Cup at First Tee. Congratulations to both Austin and Taylor! We are very proud of you both. Fall apparel has started to arrive and the Pro Shop needs to make room, and that can only mean one thing BIG SAVINGS for you! The Pro Shop will be offering a lesson program geared toward the intermediate lady golfer. The lessons will be held September 6 th, 13 th, 20 th, & 27 th from 5:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m. The objective of these lessons will be to make the learning process fun and non-intimidating. You will find that this program will help develop the knowledge and skills needed to play the game and allow you to meet new friends! The cost for the program is $100 and it is important that you be able to attend all sessions in order to receive the full benefit of this program. Contact the Pro Shop to sign up!

5 Golf Course Update I would like to start off by saying THANK YOU to everyone who volunteered their time, tools, and energy during the clean up effort following the storm on August 11. I have never seen a membership pull together and accomplish such a titanic feat as you did this month. It makes me proud to be part of such a great club. The course is pretty much back in shape minus a few trees. Our irrigation was repaired as quickly as possible due to the fantastic effort of the Maumelle Water Treatment Staff. Thank you guys! During the days following the storm1981our greens suffered a great deal of stress. Not having water to cool the surfaces plus not being able to apply the proper chemicals in a timely fashion really set us back. However, I believe we have seen the worst and the greens should start improving so that they are in great shape for the fall golfing season. Let s hope we have no more minor disasters!
