(Cash or Member Tickets) Only private carts will be allowed on the golf course after dark. All carts must stay on cart path. The Maumelle City Ordinance pertaining to fireworks will be strictly enforced. There will be no discharging of fireworks on the golf course!

2 President s Message July.heat..must be Arkansas. Summer is in full swing. Water and ice will be staples as we hit the golf course. A special thank you to our staff and all of the volunteers that helped make the Make*A*Wish Celebrity Golf Tournament another success. If you participated in the tournament as well as the charity silent/live auction the night before, you realize what a wonderful event this is. The media coverage for this event is always good for our club. I know the May and June golf calendar has been full with events including the women s and men s club championship. Normally, these events are held in late August and early September but had to be rescheduled in lieu of our green conversion. We have added several new members, both full active and social. There are several factors that have caused us not to be where we want to be, the economy being the main factor. I would encourage you to bring guests during July and August as we will have reduced rates and they can see the progress we are making on our greens. Quite possibly we could 92 gain a new member. Our green conversion is a major move for MCC and one for the best. Let s all be supportive of our club and staff during this time. September will be here before you know it and this will all be behind us. Have a great summer and I ll see you at the club. 3 Manager s Message Well, my first month here at Maumelle CC was a busy one, we had a lot of activity at the club, I want to thank all the members for your patience and understanding regarding all the tournaments we had. It s a fine line on what is too many or not enough functions to have at the club without disenfranchising the members. Again, I d just like to thank you for understanding. We re gearing up for the Greens changeover, I m excited about what this could do for our club, we ll have the best greens in the state soon and that will definitely be a strong selling point for prospective members. As all of you are fully aware, members are the lifeblood of any club. I hope if you know of anyone who might be a potential candidate for membership, you will send them to talk with either Tiffanie or myself and we ll do our very best to make them feel welcome and wanted as members at our club! I hope everyone will THINK OF US FIRST when it comes to dinner plans, Tony always has something cooking for you and we would love to see you here! We are really going to need your patronage during the six to seven weeks it should take to replace our greens, so I m asking all of you to please come out and have dinner and a cold libation with us. We re waiting to serve you! I am working on a new menu now and I m planning on presenting it to you in the not too distant future, for you traditionalists, we will still have most of the favorites that you told me you d like for us to keep but I can t 1252 promise that I can keep them all, we re already stretched to our limits as far as menu items are concerned and space to store all of it. We need to pare down the menu a little bit to allow us to keep our food costs in line. I m sure you ll understand and support our endeavor. I think you will like what we ll have to offer and we plan on changing it up every 3 to 4 months to keep it interesting! I hope everyone will come out for the Fourth of July festivities, there ll be pool games and music and food! Should be a lot of fun! See ya at the club! Jeff

4 From the Pro Shop Thank you to everyone whom has been participating in our events. I hope to continue seeing it grow as the year progresses. Also thank you to all who participated in the Club Championship. As everyone knows we are about to start playing or temporary greens. Jason has worked very hard to get them as playable as possible. Please keep in mind they are Temporary. During this time we will be offering a reduced rate for Green Fees. Weekday Green Fees will be $20 plus tax and cart (if applicable) and Weekend Green Fees will be $30 plus tax and cart (if applicable). I encourage everyone to come out and bring guests. The course is in excellent shape from tee to green. I know the temporary greens aren t a whole lot of fun but it isn t everyday you get to see the process of a greens conversion. Plus it will be like playing a whole new golf course. If you have any questions don t hesitate to ask. On a side note, the Match Play Championship originally scheduled for the end of July/first of August has been postponed due to the greens renovation. Again thank you to everyone for participating. 5 MGA NEWS We are winding down to the big dig! Only another week or so until we start on the new greens. You can love it or hate it, but let s hope the weather is perfect to allow them to grow in fast as possible. I know those of you that came out for the Nite-Lite Golf last month had another great time and I hope everyone will come out and play the MGA events over the coming months as well. While we will be on temporary greens for a couple of months, we will have our MGA events on July 19 th (4-man blind partner) and August 23 rd (2- man Ryder Cup) and I hope you will join us. We are in the process of getting some cutouts of coyotes and red foxes that we plan to place around some of the ponds with way too many geese. These are natural predators of the Canadian geese. We need to periodically move them around and I hope that everyone will help out with that and keep an eye on them to prevent any vandalism. These have worked in other clubs so maybe we can at least 1077 reduce the goose population by a bit. We have some other improvement projects in the works, but please let us know if you have any ideas and hope to see you all at the upcoming MGA events. Pat Johnson WMGA NEWS Wow, June has been a really busy month and has just flown by. The month got started off with the Mixed Invitational, and then we had the Club Championship and right behind that, the Willie Odom Invitational. And believe it or not, the weather was perfect for all of these events. I want to thank everyone that helps to make these tournaments a success. Big congratulations to Wanda Jett for winning the Maumelle Country Club Championship. July we will begin on our temporary greens but, please continue to come out and play. Our scramble and meeting will be July 2 with an 8:30 start. Be sure and sign up and come out and have fun. See you all on the course, Lynette Pipkins President

6 GOLF COURSE UPDATE Well, July is finally here! Time for our Greens Resurfacing Project! We will begin playing on temporary greens July 7. That is also the day we will begin preparing the greens for sprigging. Our schedule for the project begins on July 3rd when we spray the greens with herbicide. Then on the 7 th we will strip sod off of Greens 2, 5, and 8 so the architect can shape them. He will also reshape parts of several other greens adding pin locations and softening some slopes. During that week we will scalp, verticut, aerify and top-dress the greens in preparation for the sprigs. The turf farm will be here on July 15 to begin planting. After the greens are planted we will water them very frequently for the weeks following. We should start mowing about 3 weeks after planting and we plan on opening on Labor Day! Jason Baker Golf Course Superintendent CANADIAN GEESE SITUATION ON GOLF COURSE As you all know, we have a growing population of geese that find our course irresistible. While we are concerned about this and as to how this might affect our greens conversion, we are looking into what we can do to alleviate this matter. A member from the USDA is visiting us today to evaluate the situation. Also, we will be in touch with the people from Champion to get their opinion. In the meantime, however, please observe caution when you are playing golf. We certainly do not want any mishaps with our members that may cause injury, either to you or to the geese. As a reminder, Canadian Geese are a migratory bird and as such, are protected under Federal Regulations.

Greens Conversion Guests Special Bring a guest to play golf during the months of July & August at a special discounted rate of $35 during the week and $45 on Saturday & Sunday. **Above rate includes the cost of the cart rental ** Price without cart $20 / $30 Players will be given a small flag with their names attached. Using full handicap, players will play until they reach the number of strokes equaling par, plus their handicap. The player who plants their flag the furthest around the course will be the winner. Payout will be determined by the number of entries. Men s & Women s divisions will be competing for separate prizes. All players must tee off before 2:00 pm and play will be in your normal weekend group. Entry is $10 / participant. Sign up in the Pro Shop that day! Tennis Coach, Keri Ingraham, will be 1223 offering private, group and weeklong instructional tennis camps for beginning and intermediate players. The camp is open to students of all ages, and instruction will be divided based upon ability and knowledge level. Campers will receive lunch each day at the Club as well as a t-shirt.
