1 Carlsberg Neighborhood News March 2019 Carlsberg Information, Newsletters and forms are available on our website: BOD NOTES Thank you for your great response on the ballot returns, as we did get 126 returns. Special thanks to VP Betty Bilinkiewicz and Brian Smith for their effort and push the last week to hit the total needed. A total of 108 was needed to pass each amendment, but only 2 passed. The final results are published elsewhere in this newsletter. I want to apologize for the confusion between the two meetings, but things worked out well and we were able to accomplish what we had hoped to do. Thank you for your attendance and patience. This is your community and you elected us to serve on the Board and as your President it is my goal, as I know it is with all the members on the Board, to do what is needed to uphold the beauty and integrity of this great community. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to call me or any of the Board. We must all work together to keep this community as it is and with your help we can do it. A very special thanks to Linda and Tom Horosky and your volunteers on another great Community Garage Sale. I ve been told that many of the people that visited were impressed on how well it was run and complimented us on how great the community looked. Several projects were approved at the HOA meeting, mainly a new roof on the clubhouse and work to be done in the kitchen. These projects will take place in the next few months, so please be careful during these upgrades when you come to the clubhouse. Just a reminder, there will be no scheduled HOA meeting in March. If an issue arrives that requires a meeting, it will be posted on the bulletin board well in advance. I d just like to wish everyone a Happy Saint Patricks Day. CLEO S THURSDAY, MARCH 14 TH AZTECA MEXICAN AT 11:30 AM This month Sandy Zito has made arrangements for the ladies to go to Azteca Mexican in Winter Haven. We will meet at the clubhouse at 11:30 am to caravan to the restaurant. All ladies are welcome. This is strictly social; just good fellowship and lots of girl talk. 2 ROMEO S On Thursday, March 14 th ROMEOS will dine at the LITTLE NEW ORLEANS KITCHEN AND RAW BAR (It is located in the same shopping center as Somewhere Sports Bar). Then on Thursday, March 28 th we will meet and eat at the Lake Wales AMERICAN LEGION AREA 71 located in the Eagle Ridge Mall. All meetings start at 12:00 Noon; Questions, call John Henrie at THURSDAY, MARCH 7 TH POKER RUN AT 7:00 PM Dick and Jewel Kempinger will be coordinating the Poker Run again this year. Participants will meet at the clubhouse at 7:00 pm to get their course assignments. After collecting a card at the homes of Diane Berndt and Nancy Walker, Vince and Diana Cottone, Betty Bilinkiewicz and Jim and Sherry Lambert, return to the clubhouse to receive the fifth card. Enjoy a dessert and find out who the winners are. Prizes for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place. Tickets are $5.00. TUESDAY, MARCH 12 TH SPECIAL BREAKFAST AT 9:00 AM Bob Howard, Buzz LaClair and Ron Oldenburg will be making another delicious breakfast. Menu will be similar (eggs, meat, fruit) to the other ones they ve done in the past, which were fantastic. Tickets are $4.00. SATURDAY, MARCH 23 RD 11 TH ANNUAL CHILI COOK OFF AT 5:00 PM Our chairperson for this event is Woody Bollinger. Woody has lined up 8 great cooks for the competition this year. Trying to decide which chili offering is your favorite will be quite a challenge. For those who don t/can t eat chili, there will be hotdogs. There will be professional entertainment following the chili. Tickets are $6.00. Advance ticket purchase required for all of March events. RAC ticket sellers: Ann Hoffman , Sue Dean , Sandy Zito and Nancy Walker Amazing Miracle Cloths are still handled by Sue Dean. They clean without streaking! $3.00 per cloth. Call Sue at if you need one or see her at Tasty Tuesday. ICLUB This month we return to our regular schedule on the first and third Tuesdays at 3:30 pm. To be precise, which we never are, our meetings will be on the 5 th and the 19 th. Grab your gear, get into gear, and gear up for a rocking good time at an iclub meeting near you. Jump like a March hare to the clubhouse for our slightly cerebral, but definitely entertaining, meetings. 3 SATURDAY, MARCH 9 TH CRIBBAGE TOURNAMENT AT 9:30 AM Anyone who wants to play or just watch is welcome. COUPLES FUN GOLF Couples FUN golf at Lake Bess Golf Course continues every other Saturday. As usual, the group will meet at Hurricane s for lunch afterwards. A signup sheet is on the bulletin board in the clubhouse. Questions, call Dick Hoffman at GOLFERS FLAMINGO FRIDAY FRIDAY, MARCH 1 ST AT 5:00 PM Since the Fish Fry canceled the regular Flamingo Friday, and there are 5 Fridays in March, the golfers will meet twice this month. On Friday, March 1 st, this Flamingo Friday will be hosted by Jewel and Dick Kempinger. On Friday, March 29 th, Jan and Ron Oldenburg will be the hosts. All residents interested in golf are welcome, as are significant others (who may or may not be interested). NO skill level is required! Bring an appetizer to share and your preferred beverage. Just a good social time RIVER GREEN GOLF Golf at River Green Golf has resumed on Wednesdays. Questions, contact Dick Kempinger at COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE Was a great success! Thanks to all who participated. Coffee and Donuts raised $60; Baked Goods $307.95; Hot Dog sales (including golf cart sales) $447.83; and White Elephant $1,706.35, for a net total after expenses of $2, Many thanks to the men who were on the Traffic Control. Comments were received about how well things were handled, so kudos to the Traffic Team! We are so appreciative of so many people but we have to say special thanks to all the kind folks who worked the set-up days, day of the sale and the pack-up/clean-up crew, you all did an amazing job, Thank you! I understand from speaking with individual homeowners that many of you did well on your own sales. In closing we want to mention that we had a lot of very nice compliments regarding our community and how very nice and well kept it looked. We want to say sincerely "THANK YOU!" Lin and Tom Horosky, Coordinators CONDOLENCES Our condolences to Shirley Conner (and family) on the passing of her husband, Richard Hoppy Conner on Monday, February 11, Hoppy passed peacefully at Life Care Center. Shirley and Hoppy were one of our originals, who resided at 4170 Cannes Avenue until moving to Life Care where they shared a room. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at Life Care Center, 1510 Cypress Gardens Blvd, Winter Haven, FL Our condolences to Bill Carrieri (and family) on the passing of his wife, Maria on Tuesday, February 26, No other information is available at this time. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at 249 Chalet Estates Street. Sue Dean will be collecting memorial donations for both Hoppy and Maria. 4 FYI In answer to someone s questions regarding Bereavement in Carlsberg. When a death of one of our neighbors is reported, someone (usually Vince Cottone) will hang the black bunting over the clubhouse entrance for a week. Sharon Costanzo delivers a bereavement platter to the home. The funds for the platter come from RAC. From early on, we have collected donations in the memory of the deceased to be sent to the family s preference, be it a charity, hospice, etc. The memorial donations are completely voluntary. No one makes you donate, no one tells you how much to donate. When the donations are sent, the family receives an acknowledgement. The acknowledgement never says how much was given, but conveys our sympathy. It may give the families some measure of comfort to know that Carlsberg cares. Should you hear of a resident that has passed, please notify any Board member. REMINDER When having improvements done to your property, our covenants prohibit any contractor signs in the yard. Request forms are located outside the office door (in the clubhouse) or on our website. If in doubt about a particular change, ASK the ARC for a ruling before making any changes. Please Note: ARC has a new meeting time of 9 AM on the 2 nd and 4 th Thursdays of each month.
