1 Nomads Golf Australia National Tournament Magenta Shores Friday 5 th Sunday 7 th October 2012 Welcome to the FINAL Nomads Golf Australia Nationals Newsletter Nationals is 3 weeks away and The FLY has been seen getting his own liver functions checked and his elbows greased. Preparations are in their final stages and the status lights are GREEN. The Fly has intercepted some correspondence showing the tournament shirt and cap design. These are looking spectacular and he is sure that participants are going to be very happy with the quality. Once again the Nomads Sponsors have come to the party and we have an awesome prize list and prizes for the big draws. The Fly would recommend that you make sure you invest in raffle tickets to give yourself every chance to get your hands on some of these wonderful prizes. The tournament committee and the national executive have finalised the order of events and you will start to see a level of consistency introduced into the program. The focus is still firmly on competitors having a great Nationals experience and sharing in the wonderful camaraderie that is facilitated through this event. Registration for the event has now closed and we can confirm participation as set out below: Special Visitors REGISTRATION BY CLUB Sydney North 39 Sydney South 11 Brisbane 26 New Zealand 10 South Africa 10 Sponsors/Visitors 4 TOTAL 100 Peter van Wegen (Sydney North and CEO JNJG) will be bringing some visitors from the Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation to the Tournament. Hannes van Niekerk, the CEO Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation, will be accompanied by Thriston Lawrence (currently number one junior in SA) and Nkosinathi Dauwa (the EEFF s best black junior player). Nkosinathi is a member of the Ekhurhuleni Golf Union. Ernie was a member of this Union which is situated to the east of Johannesburg. He is has won two junior tournaments in the July holiday the first ever done by a black player.

2 Dress Regulations Playing Gear: Friday (Practice Round) Saturday Sunday : Regular golf attire : The tournament shirt together with your club pants. : Club colours are to be worn Evening Dress: Australian Nomads Members are to wear dark pants with white, button down collared shirts with the Nomads tie if you so choose. Short or long sleeved shirts are acceptable. International Nomads who wish to wear Nomads jackets and ties, please do so. The Australian National Executive will wear the Nomads jackets and ties for the formal activities, being the welcoming cocktail party on Friday night and the prize giving dinner on Saturday night. Transport Arrangements For most of the Brisbane Nomads, shuttle buses have been arranged specific details will be sent to you in the next few days. If any other participants have not confirmed their travel requirements, please contact the coordinator, Mark Howard Browne. Late Check out Sunday will cost you $50 Late check outs on Sunday are permissible but unfortunately come with a $50 fee. You will need to make arrangements with Reception to have a late checkout and the fee will be added to you Villa s bill. 4 Glory Bag At registration you will receive a fantastic tournament glory bag containing a tournament booklet which includes all the details of the weekend. You will also get a Magenta Shores course guide and the tournament shirt and cap will be amongst other sponsored goodies. The draw sheet will also be in the bag. Please take some time to examine all the contents in your bag. Draws You will be asked to participate in various draws to balance our budget. At the minimum of $50 you will get entered into all the draws, i.e. the 3 cash draws and the Mega Draw. We anticipate most participants to spend at least $100. The more you spend the more chances you ll have in the draws. We will be running a daily cash draw paying down to 5 places with the first prize each day estimated to be over $500 depending on what we collect. We also are repeating the Mega Draw at Saturday s prize giving with the first prize in draw being a full set of Mizuno woods, irons, putter and bag worth over $2,000. Mark Philp Nomads National Chairman South Africa 2012/13 Mark was born in Stellenbosch, South Africa, on 4 August 1958, had his schooling in Stellenbosch and after a two year stint in the Infantry, he went to Stellenbosch University and achieved a B. Comm degree in 1981 where after he entered the motor business and has been there ever since, today managing the Selfords Motor Group of companies. He is married to Laetitia and they have three children, two boys who have each successfully completed their Tertiary education and the youngest of the three in her fourth year as a Physiotherapy student. Mark has been a member of Stellenbosch Golf Club since his days as a student, served on the club committee for a number of years and in 2003 was elected as Club Captain and served in this position for two terms. He has served his community in many ways, but his dedication as a member of Round Table epitomises his contribution. He served this Service Club at the highest level and after being Chairman of his own Club, he went on to fill the positions of Western Province Area Chairman, National President and International Relations Officer. Mark is a Founder Member of the Boland Nomads Golf Club. Because of his active involvement in Round Table and his stringent travelling program, he took a prolonged sabbatical from Nomads and returned in He was elected as Junior Vice Captain for 2007 and went on to Captain the Boland Club in He was the Coordinator of the 2011 National Tournament, Nationals d Vine, which was held in the Strand and which by all accounts was an extremely successful event. During his Nomadic career Mark has got very involved with all aspects of the club and has travelled extensively both within the country and to numerous Zimbabwe, Botswana and Swaziland events. He is extremely appreciative and thankful of the support and encouragement that the band of Bolanders has showered on him these past recent years. He was inducted as National Chairman of Nomads South Africa in March of this year in Port Shepstone at the SA Nationals Tournament and is certainly mindful of the large responsibility which goes along with donning the light blue jacket along with being conscious of the high standards which have been set by his predecessors. His term in office includes amongst others, visiting the 12 SA Nomads clubs, attending the Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland and Australian National Tournaments, various Furtherance of Golf functions, promoting the good image of Nomads clubs in South Africa and enjoying the special Nomads camaraderie and friendship which goes with all of this.
