2 The sun is shining and the grass is visible. Hope springs eternal! - we might be golfing by Easter. Which of course is Sunday the 16th. We have a great Brunch planned with the Easter Bunny leading the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Bring the kids and we ll have a great time on the lawn! Chef Keegan will be unveiling a new Spring Menu right after Easter and it will offer some new and lighter dishes. After our Memorial Day Picnic, we will unveil our Summer Menu. The restaurant has been steady all winter and we thank you all for stopping in even under some adverse weather conditions. We look forward to opening the Porch and getting outside ASAP. As busy young families are planning their summers already, we have Camp ready with On-Line sign ups. Go to our Website under (Our Club) and Comp info will be there. We also have a Family and Junior Recreation day planned for May 11th. We will have Swim team, Camp, Junior Golf and Junior Tennis sign ups with schedules available at the Family BBQ. Our Duplicate Bridge players are back on schedule Wednesdays at 1pm with optional lunch beforehand. Feel free to myself or Ann Turchick if you would like more info. And the ROB s will be starting their Friday morning 9 hole scrambles as soon as we open. 7 From the Desk of the Superintendent Old Man Winter doesn t want to quit. Fortunately the recent heavy snows missed us and hit the higher elevations. This will allow us to get the course dry and start preparing to open. We made a few minor adjustments on the course this winter. The bunkers in front right of 14 and 17 greens were removed. These areas will now become part of the approaches and chipping areas of those complexes. Neither bunker ever really fit in with the rest of the course design. We will be planting bent grass sod in these areas as soon as the sod growers start to harvest. They should make for nice improvements. We plan to proceed in a very similar fashion this season as we have in the past. We have an air injection aeration planned for April 17. This will do no damage to the putting surface. The purpose for this is to break up deep soil compaction so our plants can root and our greens can drain properly after a heavy rain. This will be our fifth season doing this and it s been a home run. Many of you may remember the large aeration holes we would put into the greens in November. This process has taken over with no disruption to play. We will also be adding some additional bunker maintenance to our weekly routine, paying more attention to the high traffic bunkers: 2,7,8,11,15 and 18. Some of these bunkers are too firm, some too soft and some just need sand redistributed on a more regular basis. Making every bunker play the same is extremely difficult. They all have a different orientation to sunlight, thus creating varying drainage conditions. This is the case with all golf courses, and the number one source of concerns at all golf courses. I have never played a course that had the same bunker textures throughout the property. That is next to impossible, but we are targeting certain areas to make things more consistent. We will be playing golf soon. As soon as we have a date we will send out an blast. Chris Strong Grounds Superintendent SENIOR INTERCLUB GOLF Anyone interested in participating in the Country Club of Troy Senior Interclub Team, please contact: Rex Bryce at or rexmarybryce@gmail.com. 7
