2 A Great British Month Hello and welcome to the July issue! This month feels particularly British for a number of reasons, Wimbledon is currently going on as I write, England have been knocked out of the Euro s, the Olympics are just weeks away and oh yes...it is absolutely throwing it down! We have all witnessed a large number of sporting fixtures cancelled and postponed due to waterlogged ground, standing water and generally unseasonal conditions, but this has highlighted once again why Kelsall Hill is so special. Anyone who attended the riding club horse trials (Area s 3 and 20) in June, will have seen that even despite a deluge of rain, Kelsall s ground remains workable. The sandy soil, exposure to wind through the valley and a knowledgeable ground team are the reasons why Kelsall has such a great record in the rain, and I think this needs noticing. Its been a busy month at Kelsall, and a great one to focus on some of the great products and facilities on offer. The gallop, arena s, cross country schooling area and farm ride are all there to use so make sure you get down there and keep horses fit among the cancellations. The haylage range has of course expanded, and there is something for every horse, so why not try a bale? Sponsorship is now something we will be focussing on, and Blue Chip offer their recommendations of feeding the event horse... DISHONESTY FORCES RESTRICTION ON FACILITIES TO BE ENFORCED... 6 riders have been identified as exploiting the honesty system in place for those using facilities after office closure at 5.30pm. The group of riders initially booked and paid for a farm ride, but CCTV camera s identified the group to be using the gallop and cross country schooling area for substantial amounts of time. The riders failed to pay for these additional facilities. The Centre has always operated a system whereby clients can make use of facilities out of hours, but the recent display of abuse to this system has created the need for a change. In-house manager Emma Latham, took to Facebook to make a statement on 18 th June... Sadly from now on, we will have to place a lock on the XC Schooling and Gallop from 5.30pm each day. This is due to people coming and paying for the farm ride, but then using additional facilities for free including the schooling area or gallop. It is sad that we can no longer run the honesty system, but last Thursday evening 6 people decided to help themselves. If you would like to come after 5.30pm you will need to contact us and we can discuss the relevant procedures to use the facilities. Thank you for your co-operation. Speaking of the situation, Emma said We have identified the rider s who took part in the activity, and will be taking our own action with those individuals. There are huge implications of using facilities when we do not know they are in use, for example in the instance of an accident. It is sad that we have had to enforce restrictions, as the vast majority of our clients are like an extended family, and are the most honest and trustworthy people you could meet. We will ensure that this small minority do not completely spoil opportunities for others.

6 Cover Story... RAIN STOP S PLAY NATIONWIDE, BUT KELSALL REIGNS RESILIENT... Kelsall Hill Equestrian Centre has once again proved it s resilience to inclement weather conditions, as even a month long deluge of rain didn t stop all of its planned events going ahead. On a weekend where BE fixtures fell foul to waterlogged conditions and scenes of monsoon floods took up the sporting press, Kelsall proceeded to run Area 3 and Area 20 Riding Club Horse Trials. work on every possibility to enable events to run. Its a credit to them. Speaking of the ground work the team put in, Press Officer Mark Hayward exclaimed The ground is amazing at Kelsall, and sandy soil really creates almost perfect going even in the worst conditions. However, the team here are really hard working, and get straight on the course to repair the ground and really The management team at Kelsall will continue to try and ensure all competitions go ahead to provide local riders every chance of getting out and about. Facilities including the Gallop, Cross Country Schooling and Arena s are perfect for ensuring horses are kept fit during the wet weather. 7 ONE MONTH AND COUNTING... With hopes of an Indian Summer, entries for the Autumn fixture (22 and 23 Sept) open on 17 th August. Combining BE90, BE100, BE100RF, BE100 Open, Novice and Open Novice U18 classes, the team are looking forward to the 2 day fixture, following the success of the April event. Organiser Jane Whitaker expressed her excitement ahead of the event Following our success of the April event, I am looking forward to our September weekend and also some better weather hopefully! With so much going on this Summer, it will give us all something to look forward to following the Olympics! FITNESS FREAKS... With so many event cancellations and some severely waterlogged ground, why not make use of the gallop facility! The surface couldn t be better, even in the rain, so why not give us a call and get a session booked? Following a successful trip to Kelsall Hill back in April, Jess Williams made a return to take part in the Dressage on 30 th June. The trip from North Wales proved a very worthwhile one, taking the spoils in the Elementary section aboard Ricky. A score of 71.93% put her just ahead of Tom Tom Go with Gemma Curtis. Manley based Ruth Mealey also looked impressive and beat off strong competition in the prelim section aboard Okehurst Trigger. A score of 72% was enough to remain on top, among a 20 strong field. Julie Pearce enjoyed success in the Intro section with Charlie, and 68.26% was the score ensuring she came out as winner. Young rider Ellie Williams reigned supreme in the Novice section with Smash, and San Remo ridden by Megan Simpson won the other prelim section. Organiser Emma Latham said Its been another great day of competition here at Kelsall Hill. It is always great to see the regular competitors, but also to welcome new faces.

12 Emma s Diary #loveit Emma Latham, Kelsall Hill s In-House Head Of Marketing fills us in on her weekly update from HQ Welcome to my diary instalment! Whilst writing my diary on the last day of June, I would have hoped to have been in shorts, sunglasses and be sipping something cold. The reality however is a waterproof jacket, a rather wet hair-do and soggy paper, after running from the house to the office in a monsoon style shower! Weather aside, June has been a busy month at Kelsall Hill, and has really shown why we are so lucky at Kelsall with the ground and the going. With so many events falling by the wayside, succumbing to these awful conditions, I can t help but spare a thought for those organisers who have put so much work in, to then watch as event grounds become a scene of mud and standing water. The ground at Kelsall, being sandy soil, tends to drain very easily and with the windy valley, tends to dry quickly. Our event grounds saw two very successful days for Area 3 and Area 20 riding clubs, who both held horse trials in the same weekend. Competitors were full of praise for the going, and I think grateful to get a run. June has been a month of housework here in the office. Working on our facilities and products to ensure we continue to offer the very best.
