2 NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS & COMPETITORS The Show Committee, acting through their members, may refuse an entry without assigning any reason. Exhibitors are responsible for having exhibits shown in a proper manner, correctly haltered and numbered according to catalogue. Exhibitors/Competitors are reminded that they may not leave the ring without the permission of the ring steward during any class. Neither the Show Committee nor the Connemara Pony Breeders Society will accept liability for any error in the numbering of an exhibit, for an exhibit not being displayed, or for loss of, or accident to, an exhibit. Exhibits must be the bona fide property of the Exhibitor, registered in their name and in possession of a Lifetime Document or Passport. Foals must be shown at foot with mare in appropriate mare classes. Particulars or breeding for all ponies and Stud Book number and name for registered ponies must be given in the Entry Form. Failure to do so, or the giving of incorrect particulars, may entail disqualification. The Society will not accept liability for any omission from, or error in, the particulars appearing in the Show Catalogue. Entries are accepted strictly on this understanding. Exhibitors are responsible for the accuracy of the particulars supplied in their Entry Forms. Where an Exhibitor/Competitor knowingly gives incorrect particulars, the Society may disqualify any, or all, of their entries and also refuse to accept an entry from them in future. Each exhibitor in the In-hand Classes and Ridden Classes will receive a pass entitling one person only to free admission to the Showgrounds up to a limit of five. Exhibitors/Competitors must present this pass at the gate or pay full admission. Exhibitors and competitors are requested to wear their numbers on their back when leading/riding ponies in the ring on Show Day. No Exhibitor/Competitor will be admitted to the Show Ring unless they are wearing their correct number. Exhibitors/competitors are asked to adhere to a neat dress code. The Judges may withhold a prize in any Class in which, in their opinion, there is not sufficient merit. Neat dress is essential in the judging rings. Smoking is prohibited in the stabling area and in the show rings The use of mobile phones in the judging rings is strictly forbidden.

3 Classes may start before the programmed time. It is the responsibility of all exhibitors/competitors to ensure they are present in the assembly ring before the class is scheduled to start. Owners of animals are advised to arrange their own public liability insurance cover. This should cover the exhibiting of animals at public shows. All Exhibitors/Competitors enter and show their ponies at their own risk. On Thursday 16th August Mares & Geldings aged 2 years old and over on 1st January 2018 must be entered in Class 1 of the CPBS Studbook to be eligible to compete in in-hand classes. Stallions aged 3 years old and over on 1st January 2018 must be entered in Class 1 of the CPBS Studbook to be eligible to compete in the in-hand classes. ENTRY FEE 35 per Pony per Class unless otherwise stated. The MINIMUM amount to be sent with any Entry Form is 35 in fees. ENTRIES will not be accepted after Tuesday 10 th July All fees must be paid when entering. LATE ENTRIES CANNOT BE ACCEPTED. STRICTLY NO TELEPHONE ENTRIES ENTRIES are also accepted online via the CPBS website Please ensure that you have read the schedule and rules relating to the class (es) you wish to enter before entering online. Online entries close on Tuesday 10 th July SPECIAL NOTICE In the interest of Safety ALL ponies, including foals, must be securely haltered and led within the Show-grounds. Stewards have been instructed to refuse admission to any animal that is not haltered or led. No Exhibitor/Competitor shall leave the show ring until authorised and then must leave in the manner directed by the Stewards. NOTE: The Society reserves the right to take a drug test on any exhibit on the Society s premises at any time. Should it be proved to the satisfaction of the Society that any drug has been administered to an exhibit for the purpose of affecting its conduct/appearance in the Show Ring, the exhibit may be disqualified, and the exhibitor penalised as the Society shall direct. Any entry for an exhibit which is deemed to have a conflict of interest with the judge in that section will not be accepted. Please visit

6 Wednesday 15 th August Please note all starting times are approximate. International Connemara Performance Hunter 9am sharp Prize Fund of 1,200 Open to A team competition in which each country participating will have a team of 4 riders and ponies. (Teams are invited) Rules Ponies must be registered Connemara's - aged 5 years old or over. Microchips will be checked before the competition. Riders must be 14 years old (before 1st of January 2018) - no upper age limit. Run under I.P.S. marking system. No spurs allowed. Simple snaffle bridle with cavesson, drop, grackle or flash nosebands. Whips may not exceed 75 cms. Riders to wear jackets to identify their Nation of origin. Body protectors to be worn by all riders. Martingales permitted. Boots allowed. The Course A course of a minimum of 15 numbered derby style fences, including a double, at a height of 95 cms to 1 m. On completion of their jumping round riders must show an extended canter/gallop along the long side of the arena and finally halt and salute the judge - this will contribute to their 'way of going' mark. Each team must nominate a rider/pony to represent them should a jump off situation occur. If teams finish on an equal score after each team member has jumped their round there will be a jump off, over a jump off course, against the clock by one rider/pony nominated by their team manager. No second phase.

7 IRISH CONNEMARA GREEN HUNTER Final to be held on Wednesday 15 th August at 11am Approx. Prize fund of 1,000 Open to 4yr. old Registered Connemara Stallions, Geldings and Mares. Riders over 14yrs on 1 st January Ponies must be registered in current owner s name. A maximum of three ponies may qualify at each qualifier. There must be no change of rider at the final i.e. it must be the same combination that qualifies. The judge s decision is final. PHASE 1 Ponies will be required to jump a course, which will be a minimum of 8 fences, (including a double), over a maximum height of 80cms. PHASE 2 RIDE AND CONFORMATION. The ponies will walk, trot, and canter as a group, then line up. The Judge will then ride each pony at a walk, trot, canter and, (at the judge s discretion) extended canter. The pony will then be stripped, and shown in hand. Bits. Simple snaffles (as per IPS rules) excluding unjointed snaffle. NO change of saddlery is allowed during competition with the exception of overreach boots and / or tendon boots, which may be used for Phase 1 only. Disregard for this rule will lead to elimination. BANDAGES are not allowed. SPURS are not allowed. WHIPS not to exceed 75cms Running martingales only, are permitted, but judges should pay particular attention to their effectiveness. Any suitable noseband is acceptable. The course may be inspected mounted. No animals are allowed to practise over any part of the course before the commencement of the class, as this will lead to immediate elimination.

9 Connemara Pony Three Year Old Loose Jumping Competition Final to be held on Wednesday 15 th August at 2pm Approx Prize Fund of 1,100. Open To Registered Connemara Ponies, in possession of a CPBS passport, registered to the current owner. Pony must be 3 years of age. No boots or bandages are permitted. Plaiting of manes and tails is not permitted. The fences at the qualifying centre will not exceed 1m x1m. The fences at the final will not exceed 1.10m x 1.10m. A provision will be made for 138cm ponies, which will be loose jumped after the 148cm ponies. The maximum height at qualifying centres will be 90cm x 90cm. The maximum height of fence at final will be 1m x 1m. The distance between fences will also be adjusted. A minimum of 60 marks to qualify for the final Format of Loose Jumping Lead your pony into the ring / arena, and stand it side on to the judge for conformation assessment, and in-hand movement (Walk away and trot back). When the judge advises, release your pony. The trained arena team will take over, guiding your pony forward, but they will not touch or chase your pony. Then, when the judge indicates, catch your pony, and leave the ring / arena. The Judge s decision is final. 10 Connemara Pony Four Year Old Performance Mare Loose Jumping Championship Final to be held on Wednesday 15 th August at 4pm Approx. Prize fund of 3,000 Aim To promote and provide an outlet for four year old mares likely to make high class show jumpers or eventers. To identify performance mares at a young age that may be suitable for the broodmare herd. Rules The competition is open to four year old registered Connemara mares only measuring 148cms or under. Ponies will be measured at qualifying centres. Passports will be checked at qualifiers and final and must be in the name of the owner. Two qualifiers will be held. A maximum of ten mares will qualify in total. Owners will be notified of their result following the second qualifier. The final will take place in Clifden, Co. Galway on Wednesday 15 th August at 4pm approx. The mares will be assessed on their jumping ability, conformation and temperament / ease of working with. Loose Jumping Format Lead your pony into the ring/arena, and stand him/her, side on to the judge for conformation assessment, and in-hand movement (walk away and trot back). Total 150 points No points for un-natural and exaggerated performances. Economy of effort in jumping will be rewarded. In the event of a tie, the pony with the highest score for Technique will be awarded the winner Prize Fund Total : 3000 (1 st 1000) ( 100 of which goes to the Breeder if bred in Ireland) (2 nd 600) (3 rd 400) (4 th 300) (5 th 200) (6 th 100) (7 th 100) (8 th 100) (9 th 100) (10 th 100) Family Working Hunter For Registered Connemara ponies aged 4 years and over, ridden by a child under 16 on the 1 st January Ponies will be required to jump an inviting course of working hunter fences (maximum height 60cms) to facilitate younger entrants to complete the course. Prizes in kind. Pony rider combinations who compete in this class are not eligible to compete in any working hunter class on Friday. O Sullivan Memorial Plaque To be awarded to the highest placed mare in Class 15, bred, owned and exhibited by a resident of Connemara, with foal at foot and both entered at the Show. Registered Mare sixteen years old or over. State whether with or without foal at foot. First Prize: Perpetual Challenge Trophy. Class starts 6.00pm approx. Prize fund per class Classes 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, 15 &16 First Prize: 200 in lieu of replica trophy; Second: 100; Third: 75; Fourth: 60; Fifth: 45; Sixth: 20. Entry Fee 35. Class 17 Supreme Champion First prize winners and runners-up in Classes 7, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18, are entered automatically for this competition. Prize Fund: Champion Perpetual Trophies, & 600. Reserve Champion 350, and 50 will be awarded to the Breeder of the Champion. (No entry fee is required). If the champion or reserve champion pony is owned, bred and exhibited by a person resident in Connemara, the perpetual Confined Champion cup will be awarded to the highest placed pony) Best Overall Pony Handler The Best overall Pony Handler of the Show (Classes 1 6, 12 & 13) will receive the William J. Diamond Perpetual Memorial Trophy and a prize of 200 kindly sponsored by Liam Diamond of Diamond s Equestrian Centre, Renvyle, Co. Galway.

Registered Connemara Pony, mare or gelding aged 4 years and over to be shown by a person aged 10 to 15 on the 1st January Mares with foals at foot or colts/stallions are not eligible for this class. Class starts 10.15am approx. In the interest of safety all exhibitors in this class must wear protective head gear. (Prize Fund: Perpetual Challenge Cup, First Prize: 100 Second Prize: 80, Third Prize: 50, Fourth Prize: 40, Fifth Prize: 30, Sixth Prize: 20, All other competitors will receive 10. All competitors will receive a Rosette) Connemara Pony Ridden Classes (Entry Fee 35) Commencing 11am Ring Two Where entries are deemed to be too high by the stewards, in the interest of safety, classes may be divided into odd and even numbers. Class A Class B Lead Rein Class for a Registered Connemara Pony, to be ridden by a Novice under 10 years, on 1st January (Birth Certificate must be produced if required). (Novices may not enter another Riding class. Leader must be over 16 on 1 st January Class starts 11.00am approx (Prize Fund: Prizes in Kind, All competitors will receive a Rosette). Registered Connemara Pony, to be ridden by a child 14 years and under, on 1 st January (Birth Cert must be produced if required). (Ponies awarded 1 st or 2 nd Prize in Class A or B will not be eligible to compete in Class E in any circumstances). Class starts 11.45pm approx (Prize Fund: Prizes in Kind, All competitors will receive a rosette).

16 Class C Class D Class E Registered Connemara Pony aged 4-5 years old to be ridden by a Rider 12 years and over, on 1st January (Birth Certificate must be produced if required). Pony must be ridden in a snaffle bridle. Class starts at 12.30pm approx. Registered Connemara Pony aged 6-8 years old to be ridden by a Rider 10 years and over, on 1st January (Birth Certificate must be produced if required). Class starts at 1.15 pm approx. Registered Connemara Pony, to be ridden by a child aged over 10 years and under 16 years on 1st January (Birth Certificate must be produced if required). Perpetual Challenge Cup. Class starts 2.00pm approx. Class F Registered Connemara Pony, to be ridden by a person aged over 16 years and under 21 years, on 1st January (Birth Certificate must be produced if required). Perpetual Challenge Cup. Class starts 2.45 pm approx Class G Class H Class I Registered Connemara Pony, to be ridden by a person aged 21 years and over, on 1st January (Birth Certificate must be produced if required) Class starts 3.45 pm approx. Registered Connemara Pony Stallion, to be ridden by a person 14 years and over, on 1st January, (Birth Certificate must be produced if required). If any rider in this class is unable to handle their animal, in the interest of safety they will be asked to leave the ring. Perpetual Challenge Cup. Class starts 4.45 pm approx Registered Connemara Pony, to be ridden Side-Saddle. Class starts at 5.45 pm approx. Prize Fund per class in Classes C, D, E, F, G, H & I First prize: 100; Second: 80; Third: 55; Fourth: 45; Fifth: 35; Sixth 25. Entry fee 35. Class J Champion Ridden Pony. Confined to 1st and 2nd Prize winners in Classes C, D, E, F, G, H & I Perpetual Challenge Trophy. Class starts 6.00 pm approx. Ponies must enter the ring in the order of the class they were placed in (i.e. 1st & 2nd prize winners in Class C should enter the ring first). Prize Fund: Champion 300. Reserve champion: 200.

17 N.B. Owing to lack of space, ponies for the Ridden Classes may only be ridden in Ring 2. Please note ridden classes may be divided in the interests of safety (if large entries in class) into two classes by odd and even numbers. Please Note: Approved riding hats must be worn by all competitors in Ridden Classes. Plaiting of ponies is not permitted for the Ridden Classes. Stallions may only enter Classes H and I and are eligible for Class J. Any pony that wins in a Ridden Class may compete in another class but if it wins more than one class the rider who rode the pony in the class where it won its first red rosette must ride it in Class J (Championship).

19 Friday 17 th August Working Hunter Classes (Entry Fee 35) Commencing at 8.30am Class L Potential Working Hunter for Registered Connemara Ponies aged 4-6 years old, Rider any age. Ponies aged 4 years will be required to jump a Working Hunter course of fences no higher than 75cms. Ponies aged 5 6 years will be required to jump a Working Hunter course of fences no higher than 85cms. Ponies that compete in this class are not eligible to compete in any other class. Class M Class N Class P Registered Connemara Pony aged 4 years and over, to be ridden by a person under 16 on 1st January Ponies will be required to jump a Working Hunter course of fences no higher than 80cms 85cms. Registered Connemara Pony aged 4 years and over, to be ridden by a person over 16 on 1st January Ponies will be required to jump a Working Hunter course of fences no higher than 95cms. Registered Connemara Pony Stallion aged 4 years and over, to be ridden by a person over 14 on 1st January Stallions aged 4-6 will be required to jump a Working Hunter course of fences no higher than 85cms. Stallions aged 7 and over will be required to jump a Working Hunter course of fences no higher than 95cms. Prize Fund in Classes L, M, N, & P. First prize: 100; Second: 80; Third: 55; Fourth: 45; Fifth: 35; Sixth 25. Entry Fee: 35. Class Q Working Hunter Championship 1st & 2nd Prize winners from Classes L,M,N, & P are eligible for this class. Champion 150, Reserve Champion 100. Please Note: Stallions are eligible to compete in Class P and Q only. Any pony who wins in a Class is not eligible to enter any other Class. Entry fee is 35 per Class. Children who have not attained their 16 th birthday before the 1 st Jan 2018 must wear a body protector.

20 Clifden High Performance The final will be held in the Showgrounds, Clifden on Friday 17 th August 2018 featuring a prize fund of *** 3000*** The Connemara Pony Breeders Society run this class with the aim of displaying the versatility of the Connemara pony, highlighting the performance aspect of the pony over fences with emphasis on the ride ability, scope, versatility and suitability for child or adult. The final will take place on day three of the Annual Connemara Pony Show in Clifden, Co. Galway on Friday the 17 th August There will be 5 shows holding qualifiers nationally for the final. The entry fee for the qualifiers is 25 per pony (enter for qualifiers with the show hosting the qualifier) Entry fee for the final 40 per pony. The top four ponies will qualify from each qualifier. The qualifiers and the final will be primarily run under the Irish Pony Society Rules for the working hunters so the scoring system will be the same. At the Qualifiers At the qualifiers ponies will be asked to jump a minimum of 9 numbered fences including a double and a triple combination at a minimum height of 1m high and 1m wide, a minimum of three fences at the qualifiers should be built to a height of 110cm high and 110cm wide. Each fence will be marked out of 10 and then a mark out of 20 will be awarded for the way of going. The total is then divided by 2 and penalties are then deducted. A knock -10, 1 st refusal -15, 2 nd refusal -20, 3 rd refusal Elimination. A fall of rider will incur elimination. This will complete phase 1. In phase 2, each pony will be asked to show, trot, canter and gallop. Unless otherwise requested, ponies will be required to show canter on both reins with a simple change of canter lead through trot. The pony will be stripped and judged for movement, conformation true to breed and type true to breed (i.e.: Connemara). The total marks for phase 2 will be 45 consisting of manners (10), performance (10), movement (10), breed conformation (10) and type (5).

21 Final At the final ponies will be asked to jump a course of a minimum of 12 numbered fences which will include a double and a treble up to a maximum height of 110cm and width of 110cm (minimum height being 1m and a width 1m). A joker fence will also be included, which will carry double marks but will be at maximum height (110cm) and will pose a certain level of difficulty over and above the other fences on the course. On completion of the course the rider will be required to show an extended canter/gallop along the long side of the arena. THERE WILL BE NO PHASE TWO AT THE FINAL HIGH PERFORMANCE IS EXPECTED Rules for Qualifiers and Final 1. Open to Connemara ponies in possession of a CPBS passport, aged 5 yrs old and over. Passports and microchips will be checked prior to class. 2. Stallions must be ridden by a rider that has attained their 14 th birthday before the 1 st of January of the current year. 3. Bitless bridles and gags not allowed. Pelhams must have two reins leading from hands to the bit or a single with leather roundings, three ring snaffles must have two reins or a set of roundings 4. Only front boots allowed in phase 1. boots must be removed for phase Spurs are not allowed. 6. Passports of qualifying ponies will be checked at the qualifier and must be presented at the final. Microchips will be checked at the final. 7. Running martingales only. 8. Children who have not attained their 16 th birthday before the 1 st of January 2018 must wear a body protector for phase 1. Body protectors may be removed for phase A rider may compete no more than two ponies at any one qualifier, but only one rider/pony combination may be chosen to compete at the final this choice must be declared at the relevant Qualifier. (It is recommended that if you intend to compete at the High Performance Final that you attend as may Qualifiers as possible in preparation ponies already qualified will compete in other qualifiers Hors Concours (HC).
