5 Poetry Manure Therapy Harold R. Miller Some folks dislike forking horse manure; they liken it to a livestock sewer. But to me it s a therapy cure for a brand new attitude. The horses, they munch and pick at their hay, while I just think and fork my cares away. Cuz this ain t the only horse malarky I ll deal with today, so it cheers up my surly mood. 7 Sponsors Member of the Month Anne Martins Many moons ago I was born the seventh child of nine kids in Salinas, CA. My dad acquired our first pony Topsy when I was six months old. We had a few more ponies along the way, but Topsy stayed with us until she was 21 going to a family of six kids with her pony cart and harness. When I was 6, my dad bought a beautiful black Quarterhorse filly who was bred to an Arabian a few years later so that as teenagers we could have 2 horses to ride. We did crazy stuff back then like swim them in the reservoir on a hot day or hook burlap bags on them to collect aluminum cans. We never heard of desensitisizing, but we were sure doing it! Ryan Frizzell Horseshoeing When I left home, I never dreamed that 25 years would pass before becoming the proud owner of my own horse. The problem was money and somewhere to keep them! I met my husband Marty 20 years ago, 13 of which we ve been married. In 1998, he entered Pharmacy school so we moved to Stockton, CA and then Redding before coming to Nevada in I still hadn t given up on my dream of having a horse again and Marty knew this too well. In 2006, my dream became a reality when we adopted 2 nine-month-old mustangs. Within six months, we had five horses four of which are mustangs. Work is my second priority! I'm a part time bookkeeper in Moundhouse. Presently my days are spent meeting the needs of our kids whether it be loving care, training, or just having a lot of fun with them. They have brought such joy into our lives and we love them all and all are special in their own way. My heartfelt thanks to my father who passed away in July as he was the one responsible for my great love of horses. Page 7 HD Hoof Prints
