1 INFORMATION 2018 Tennessee Open Horseback Archery Competition The Chattahoochee Horse Archers is pleased to welcome participants in the 2018 Tennessee Open Horseback Archery Competition at the beautiful Rising Glory Farm in Lewisburg, TN on July 21 st & 22 nd. This two-day event is sure to be exciting with the introduction of a new course, designed by Elizabeth Tinnan, which will test any horse archer s skills! Below is the tentative itinerary (see course descriptions below): Friday: All Day: Check-in / Welcome Time Slots: Practice Sessions Saturday: 8:00am: Mandatory Safety Briefing 9:00am: Chattahoochee Five course 1:00pm: Hit & Run course Sunday: 8:00am: Mandatory Safety Briefing 9:00am: Long Cross Country course 3:00pm: Archer s Dual* / Scoring 7:00pm: Awards Dinner *Archer s Dual will not be included in the scores & participation is not mandatory. It s just for fun while the scores are being calculated. Fees / Deadlines: $250 Entry Fee Total without discounts (includes entry fee, one stall for 2 nights & a commemorative t-shirt) -$25 Discount for deposit received / pre-registered by Thursday, March 1 st, 2018 $100 Deposit - This event is limited to 24 competitors, so deposit will reserve your spot in a first-come-firstserve fashion and will be applied to your balance. Deposits are non-refundable after registration closes, except for those that are put on the Waiting List (deposits for spots over 24 will be fully refunded if they are not called up to compete.) -$25 Discount per horse being shared. If a competitor is sharing their mount & bringing another to share, they will receive discounts on each horse. If competitor does not end up sharing their horse on the day of competition, the discount will be rescinded (owed back to club). Registration closes on Sunday, July 1 st, At which point final balance (including additional charges for camping, etc) is due or competitor loses their spot (& forfeits deposit). You will not be allowed to compete if your balance is not PAID IN FULL by this date. Anyone called up from the Waiting List will have until Sunday, July 15 th, 2018 to pay his or her remaining balance. Money will not be collected at the competition. Riders are required to complete the courses at a canter, unless otherwise stated (i.e. mandatory walk sections in a long course) so it is important to select a division that meets your own skill level: Novice: Riders in their first year of horse archery, or have competed in less than 3 events. Intermediate: Riders who are competent in the sport, have basic understanding of the rules, or have participated in more than 3 competitive events (ie: open tournaments, jackpots, etc). Advanced: For competitive, skilled horse archers that have either participated in several competitive events or have placed in the top 3 in their division/overall at events in the past year. Masters: For highly skilled & competitive horse archers who have 5+ years of competition experience, have participated in events internationally, and/or have earned the title of Champion at 3 or more events in the past 2 years. If a rider decides to challenge themselves with a higher division, they may not drop back down to a lower division in future competitions, unless approved by the event host or under special circumstances. Horseback Archery Instructors should compete in Advanced or Masters Division. CHA reserves the right to combine divisions as necessary, dependent on number of entries in each division.

2 Please note that you do not need to be a CHA member to compete (we welcome all club affiliations), HOWEVER all participants MUST be a member of HORSE ARCHERY USA to comply with our insurance requirements. Membership is just $25/year and it s easy to sign up at Horse Archery USA, Chattahoochee Horse Archers, Inc., Rising Glory Farms, LLC, event sponsors, volunteers, coordinators, horse owners, and property owners will not be held liable and assume no responsibility for theft, vandalism, accidents, injuries, or death. A FULL RELEASE OF LIABILITY WAIVER MUST BE SIGNED BEFORE COMPETING IN THIS EVENT. There is NO COST for auditors/spectators. We would love for people to share their pictures & videos with us! ADDITIONAL DETAILS Horses / Sharing: A stall with shavings will be provided for two nights. Any additional stabling will be $20/night and due prior to arrival. (Paddocks are also available, if preferred over a stall, please specify on registration form). The horse s owner is responsible for hay/feed and is requested to bring their own water/feed buckets. While it would be ideal for everyone to be able to ride their own mount (whom they re connected with in training & consistency), we understand that traveling with a horse is not always easy. So as is customary with our sport (especially internationally), we ask anyone who has a SAFE horse to be willing to share his or her steed with another. While the horse s general care will still be the responsibility of its owner, it is also customary for the borrower to help out in any way that the owner needs, and to adhere to any queues or training standards they have set forth for their horse. CHA (and the horse s owner) reserve the right to pull a horse from the competition for any reason at any time (especially if safety is a concern). Proof of current Negative Coggins AND Health Certificate are required upon arrival of all horses, no exceptions. Equipment / Safety: Please bring at least two (2) dozen arrows with field points or 3D target points and bring (1) dozen blunt tips. All arrows must be CLEARLY marked with the rider s initials (for accurate scoring). Hip, waist, thigh or back quivers are permitted (wrist/ankle quivers are prohibited). Competitors are expected to ride responsibly. Appropriate footwear must be worn when mounted, such as boots with a heel. Riding helmets are highly encouraged and MUST be worn by all minors (under the age of 18). Alcohol is prohibited during the event, but may be consumed AFTER all riding/shooting has been concluded for the day. Any competitor found consuming alcohol or using drugs during the event will be disqualified from the competition without a refund. Food / Lodging: All meals will be at the expense/responsibility of the rider(s), so please pack/plan accordingly. There are a variety of restaurants, fast food places, convenience stores and grocery stores only miles from the farm. Lunch can be cash ordered in each day from the Berlin Store (burger or chicken tender meal for $7/each). Primitive Camping at the farm is available for $5/night or you can have Camper/Trailer Hookup for $25/night (hookups are limited, so be sure to register early).

Some strategy may need to be applied in order to gain the most points as possible, considering the smaller size targets & the more rapidly they appear down the track. NOTE: This course utilizes "noisy" targets (gong, cymbal, or of metal construction); therefore it is strongly recommended that horses should be acclimated to the sight and sound of this type of target at home prior to competition. Rules: 1. Only one arrow may be shot per target 2. Arrows must have rubber blunt tips 3. Arrows can be draw either by quiver or bow hand 4. Arrow may be nocked upon entry, but may not be loosed until after crossing the starting line 5. A shot is considered to be an arrow that hits (makes gong sound from) the target 6. The run is complete when the rider crosses the finish line (90 meters) Scoring: Target points are scored as follows: 3 Points = for the first, third & fifth targets (at 3 meters away) 5 Points = for the second & fourth targets (at 5 meters away) 5 BONUS Points = for hitting ALL FIVE targets Par time is 14 seconds: +1 Point per second = faster than (under) 14 seconds (with a max of 5 pts, but no greater than target points) -1 Point per second = slower than (over) 14 seconds (no more pts deducted than target points; no score lower 0) Winner: Each competitor will get Six (6) Runs, which will be added together for a Total Final Score. Setup: Five (5) metal sheets (1.5 feet squared) will be hung (from a hook) one (1) meter off the ground. The 1 st, 3 rd & 5 th targets (valued at 3 points) will be set 3 meters from the track, while the 2 nd & 4 th targets (valued at 5 points) will be set 5 meters from the track. The 5-point targets will be painted yellow & the 3-point targets will be painted blue. Targets will be set 15 meters apart from each other (along the track) as follows: 1 st =15 meters, 2 nd =30 meters, 3 rd =45 meters, 4 th =60 meters & 5 th =75 meters.

4 Hit & Run Object: The object is to hit a one-meter target face using an advance and retreat tactic. Arrows may be drawn either by hand or by quiver, and may be knocked upon entry. This is an introduction to field archery, where speed and accuracy will be key. Rules: 1. Riders can choose to turn in either direction around the large cone, but they MUST go around the cone before returning to the start/finish line. 2. Riders MUST NOT enter the coned off area directly in front of the target. 3. There is no limit to the number of arrows used / shots taken. 4. There is no disqualification for break of gait, but the horse MUST BE at a canter for the shot(s) to count. 5. Shots may be taken 5-7 meters before the starting line, but the horse MUST BE at a canter while shooting. 6. A shot is considered to be an arrow that hits (sticks, not bouncing off) the target. 7. The run is complete when the rider crosses back over the start/finish line. Scoring: Target points are scored as follows: 1 Point = for shooting anywhere on the target face, including the outer white ring. 2 Points = for shooting within the black ring 3 Points = for shooting within the blue ring 4 Points = for shooting within the red ring 5 Points = for shooting within the yellow (bull s-eye) ring Par time is 20 seconds: +1 Point per second = faster than (under) 20 seconds (not exceeding the target points) Disqualification = slower than (over) 30 seconds Winner: Each competitor will get Six (6) Runs, which will be added together for a Total Final Score. Setup: A small cone is placed at one end to mark where the rider may prepare their canter, and then two small cones are placed 5 to 7 meters from that point to designate the starting line (where an electronic timer can be placed). There is 40 meters of free space before a large cone is placed and another 10 meters of space before several small cones are placed in a perpendicular line located 10 meters before the target. The target is set one meter off the ground (usually affixed to a large round bale).

5 Cross-Country Hunt OBJECT: The LONG COURSE is a m cross-country archery event that will get your adrenaline pumping and will surely have you hooked on horseback field archery! This course will be set up in one of the large pastures on the farm, and will take horse archers through both open fields and wooded areas of the property. Competitors may start with an arrow knocked and may draw remaining arrows from either the hand or quiver. RUNS: Competitors will be given 2-4 runs each on this course. TIME: A par time will be given for each division. (Precise par time will be established prior to the beginning of the competition) Horses are expected to finish as close to that par time as possible. A 10 second grace period for going too fast or too slow is given, however after that the rider will be given a penalty of ¼ point per second for over or under the par time. This course accentuates good horsemanship, therefore it is important to keep in mind that a less controlled runaway ride will finish too quickly and result in penalties. At any time if a judge deems a rider and horse too dangerous, either or both, may be prohibited from continuing. TARGETS & SCORING: There will be a minimum of 12 mixed (standard/3d) targets on the course. Targets will be spaced approximately 30m apart. Competitors are required to keep a forward motion throughout the course. Target hits only count if the horse is at a canter. You may shoot a target as many times as you d like! Bale targets will count as 1pt for each hit and 3D animal targets will count as 7pts, 5pts, and 3pts.
