1 DIE SUID AFRIKAANSE MINIATUURPERD TELERS GENOOTSKAP NUUSBRIEF2/ Logix vir Perde Logix is die afkorting vir Lewendehawe Operasionele en Genetiese Information Exchange, 'n gratis internet-gebaseerde program waardeur geregistreerde telers 24 uur toegang tot inligting het. Hierdie toegang stel die perdeteler in staat om met SA Stamboek te kommunikeer vir enige diereinligting soos navrae, geboortekennisgewings, kuddelyste, ens. Die sukses van enige teler kan aansienlik verbeter word deur die toepassing van al die gereedskap tot sy / haar beskikking om ingeligte besluite oor teling te maak. Logix gee telers direkte toegang tot die mees onlangse inligting oor die teel en prestasie-inligting van perde, soos aangeteken op die Logix stelsel. Toegang Alle geregistreerde telers van die telersgenootskap kan toegang tot Logix verkry. Die elektroniese inskrywing proses is maklik waarna jy jou aanteken besonderhede sal ontvang. Toegang vir geregistreerde telers tot Logix kan verkry word deur te gaan na Klik op die "elektroniese vorm" knoppie en vul die registrasie skerm soos hieronder getoon. Begin met die voltooiing van jou lidnommer, en ander inligting soos uitgereik deur SA Stamboek en die Genootskap. Gaan voort deur al die toepaslike velde in te vul en klik op "Stuur". 1

Maak seker dat jou e-pos korrek is omdat die antwoord na hierdie adres gestuur sal word.

2 'n E-pos sal gestuur word aan 'n persoon by SA Stamboek wat jou as 'n gebruiker sal registreer. Jy sal per e-pos van jou aanvaarding as 'n Logix gebruiker in kennis gestel word, jou gebruikersnaam en wagwoord sal ook aan jou gestuur word. Maak seker dat jou e-pos korrek is omdat die antwoord na hierdie adres gestuur sal word. Sodra jy jou login besonderhede ontvang het, kan jy inteken deur jou gebruikersnaam en wagwoord in die boonste linkerhoek van die skerm in te vul en Login te klik. Logix bied nie net statistieke nie, maar gee toegang tot uitgebreide verslae en ondersteun telers om beter perde te teel. SA Stamboek het 'n reël dat die data verskaffer is die eienaar van die data. Verskillende vlakke van toegang is beskikbaar op die stelsel. Die program is tweetalig en laat elke gebruiker toe om sy keuse van taal toe te pas. Menu Sodra jy aangeteken is sal die volgende kieslys beskikbaar wees. Home Gebruik die "Home" knoppie om terug na die tuisblad te gaan. Search Om te soek na 'n menu-item in die menu kliek op die "Search" knoppie om te soek vir byvoorbeeld die "geboortekennisgewing" menu-item. Die stelsel sal al die spyskaarte vir geboortekennisgewings lys en jy kan die regte een te kies. 2

Shortcuts Die knoppie "Shortcuts" sal 'n lys van 'n verkorte weergawe van die spyskaart beskikbaar vir maklike navigasie aan die mees gebruikte menu items.

Gebruik die knoppies aan die onderkant om die inligting soos aangedui op te volg.

Jou vul se ID nr moet reeds op die foto aangebring wees Jy kan jou CEM sertifikaat sowel as jou deksertifikaat indien nodig ook aanheg. Stuur alles dan aan Stamboek. Ons vra dat lede hulle per capita lyste (kuddelyste) sal trek en ons attent maak op enige foute en/of agterstallige werk wat ingehaal moet word. Maak ook asseblief seker dat alle instruksies wat julle deurstuur vergesel word van die nodige dokumentasie. As julle nie julle Per Capita lyste ontvang het nie, of daar is foute op, trek dit deur Logix of kontak asseblief vir Ronade Wiese of per epos ronande@studbook.co.za INSPEKSIES. Inspeksies moet op twee en n half jaar plaasvind en dan weer op vyf jaar. Jy moet n lid van die genootskap wees om n inspeksies aan te vra en dit word gedoen deur vir Ronande Wiese by die genootskap in Bloemfontein te kontak. Sy sal dan die nodige raadslede kontak om hierdie inspeksie te reel. Die inspekteur sal jou kontak om die nodige reelings te tref. Die koste van n inspeksies is R400 inspekteurs fooi, R75 per perd en R3.50 per km vir die inspekteur se reiskostes. 7

This requirement has been implemented over a period of years starting with the DNA of stallions being a requirement and later introducing the DNA of mares. This gives certainty as to the genetic makeup of a foal and is important in giving buyers of horses the comfort of knowing what they are procuring. More importantly it adds value to our registration papers and ultimately to the value of our horses. If foal recordals are not accompanied by DNA results from a recognised lab then the registration will become pending and will not be completed till the required results are received. Parental verification is essential and it is advised that this be done the same time as your DNA is submitted. This is done at no extra cost. There are three laboratories from which the results are recognised. 1. Please see a letter from the SAMHBS to the Director Animal Health ( DAFF )detailing our perspective and campaigning together with other Breed Societies to address the current CEM requirements. 24/08/2015 Dear Sir / Madam RE: CEM TESTING OF REGISTERED HORSES: We refer to the above matter and write to you on behalf of the SA Miniature Horse Breeders` Society. We strongly urge as we hereby do that the compulsory testing of registered horses be stopped with urgent effect. We have complied with the requirements imposed upon our Breed Society since its inception at great expense to our members, the Society and the Breed in general. 10

11 We have on numerous occasions brought our issues to your attention without any effect or response. We mention the above for the following reasons; 1. The testing imposed has ONLY been on horses registered with the South African Stud Book, and not on the ordinary farm horse or horses prevalent in the former Transkei and Ciskei areas of South Africa, that are not affiliated with a Breed Society. NO testing has taken place on any horses other than those as mentioned above. 2. The sanction to force breeders to test for CEM has been that the Registering Authority has been forbidden to register any animal that fail to provide a CEM certificate. 3. The above is not only giving you an inaccurate idea of the prevalence of CEM in South Africa, it is discriminatory against breeders who register their horses. 4. It was also brought to our attention at a Horse Forum meeting held on the 13 August 2015, that your office has indicated that if we do not test for CEM, South Africa will no longer be able to export horses. 4.1 This is not only misleading it is untrue! 4.2 Hundreds of horses that are not registered with any Society are exported from South Africa every year. 4.3 The export requirements dictate that every horse to be exported must be tested for CEM and various other diseases before export. 4.4 This does not mean that every horse must be tested for these diseases before breeding him with mares within the Republic of South Africa. 4.5 Registered horses must be tested every year (as per your discriminatory proclamation) for CEM before their foals can be registered, and then if that horse gets exported it must AGAIN be tested for CEM as per the requirements for export. 4.6 Please be advised that we have no issue with the export requirements herein. 5. Furthermore the Department of Agriculture has failed our Breeders by not assisting them with bearing the cost of CEM tests in proclaiming that breeders can make use of State Veterinarians. 6. Most of our members live in far flung areas of Southern Africa where the call out costs of a private Veterinarian to administer a CEM test are astronomical not to mention the costs of the test itself. Thus our Society urges that mandatory CEM testing be uplifted with immediate effect, alternatively the Department mandated the State Veterinarians to administer the tests here on out. 13 WAYNE HIPSLEY SEMINAR. Wayne Hipsley visited South Africa to do an AMHA Miniature horse exhibition at Bredasdorp Agri-Mega. While here he generously conducted two seminars for the SAMHBS, one in Gauteng, and one at Agri-Mega. A great deal of knowledge and expertise was shared by Wayne and many people went home assessing their herds and breeding principals. A big thank you goes out to Wayne for his time and generously sharing his vast expertise with us. One thing that Wayne has said has stuck with me and I think it may be a good idea to share this NEVER BREED TO MULTIPLY HORSES, BREED FOR QUALITY ONLY AFRICAN HORSE SICKNESS Many of us welcome winter because it reduces the chance of AHS in our horses. The effectiveness of vaccination and what vaccine to use is a debate that rages on. Whether we are required to vaccinate is also debated. Many breeders have difficulty in vaccinating pregnant mares as the vaccine is counter indicated in mares in their first trimester at the time when vaccinations are recommended.
