2 Community: Maya Archers has a long tradition of holding events that promote uses of the bow and arrow. Events include tournaments, leagues, shooting instruction, conservation classes and bowhunter education. Partnerships with California Waterfowl Association, Department of Fish and Wildlife, City of Roseville and other groups to hold classes/events at offsite locations or at Maya Archery Range. The next Maidu All Skills Archery Classes will be Saturday December 15 th and January 26 th starting at 10:00am to 12:00pm. Classes can be held at the site in range far right side. During these classes the site in range is still open except for the wall of hay and sometimes the 20 yard target for extra-large groups. If you re unsure of what s open or procedures, ask the lead instructor/coach running the event. Thanks to all the members who have used the site in range while the classes have been held to keep safety as a priority. Nor Cal What is Nor Cal? The full name for this regional group is Nor Cal Bowhunters. They represent the areas 9 archery/bowhunting clubs and 3 archery pro shops to California Bowmen Hunters State Archery Association (CBHSAA). CBHSAA and Nor Cal are chartered to the National Field Archery Association (NFAA). What do Nor Cal and CBHSAA do for Archery or Bowhunting? There are many facets to their representation of Archery and Bowhunting. CBHSAA is Dedicated to Promoting and Protecting the Archery and Bowhunting Heritages. This statewide organization speaks for California Archers and Bowhunters in matters concerning Legislation and Regulation since The Legislative committee of CBHSAA includes a Coordinator, 6 state area reps and each region group has one legislative representative. Archery is a shooting sport so at times issues arise to limit or exclude the shooting of Bows and Arrows for any purpose. CBHSAA will pursue those actions for the benefit of all Archers and Bowhunters. The next Nor Cal meeting will be Wednesday January 9 th at Maya s clubhouse; 7pm. CBHSAA Petitions for moving the state broadhead championship to the weekend before Memorial day, adding a state marked 3D championship tournament and adding a traditional state championship tournament will be discussed and voted on. Nor Cal / Legislative Region archery club tournaments start with NorCal indoor championship February 3 rd (tentative), February 17 th at Yuba Sutter Bowhunters 3D. Next will be Eldorado Hills Bowmen 3D March 3 rd. The next California Fish and Game Commission meeting (CFGC) will be held December in Oceanside. 2019/20 mammal regulation changes will be presented to FGC from DFW. Bowhunting changes listed on agenda included going from casting a hunting arrow 130 yards minimum to a draw weight minimum for big game and removing regulation to allow carrying a firearm during an archery only season or archery only tag. Adopting these changes wouldn t take place until FGC meeting in April. Next Wildlife Resources Committee meeting will be held January 10 th in Ontario. Agenda items have not been posted at this writing. CBHSAA annual meeting will be January in Sacramento. Friday afternoon is the Legislative Committee meeting starting at noon. General meeting Saturday and Sunday starting at 8am and Saturday evening is the Big Game Banquet. Here is the link for more information on the Banquet. Robert Community Robert Moore The Sacramento International Sportsman Exposition and Youth Fair will be held January 17-20, Youth fair is An Archery range will be set up and manned by various archery clubs in our region and a few from adjacent regions. Maya Archers generally work Friday evening. Maya club president Carlos will be organizing and scheduling volunteers to assist throughout the event. If interested, contact Carlos for more information. 4 Class Secretary- Doloris Newberry Our Awesome Stickbow Classic was held on November 4th. We had 65 shooters. Attendance was down from previous years. I want to thank Linda Musser, Sharon Granville and Sharon Roloft for there help with registration and posting scores at end of shoot. I will be posting August Club Shoot only. In order for September scores to be posted I need for Lain Oney and Guy Eatchel to call me on and let me know what styles they shoot. All members when filling out your score cards make sure everything is complete before turning in. Keep shooting straight Doloris August Club Shoot 2018 M-SS-BHFS Bruce Somerville spots F-SS-BHFS Theresa Russell spots F-A-BHFS-A Class Stacie Adams spots M-RECURE Mark Russell spots M-MS-FS Tex Musser spots M-A-FS-A Class Berry Smith spots Maya members nomination for officers We will nominate at the December club meeting and vote all in at the January meeting along with the club budget. If any member would like to help out please come to the December club meeting and let us know. This is all voluntary and we could use the help. Nominations for officers: Vice President Class Secretary Newsletter Editor Senior Representative The Halloween Zombie shoot was a great success this year thanks to Vickie that spent many hours planning and decorating the range to help set the mood for shooting different items. We had 41 shooters attend this year. Of the 41 shooters 27 were guests, two were from San Francisco that saw the shoot advertised and were heading this direction anyway so through in their bows for the trip. All combined we collected $ and 110 pounds of food for the Placer County Foodbank. I have a receipt if anybody needs it. We had some new things to shoot at this year and some of the original targets that seem to be popular. This year we introduced the flying bats. Rubber bats were hung on strings with fans blowing them around a bit. This added to the challenge of a stationary target. It was popular and will be back next year. Vickie introduced some eyeballs on strings to shoot, from what I was told, they exploded when you hit them. This explosion I don t think was intentional but the people seemed to really like it. There were talk about some moving targets next year powered by garage door openers, I hope this comes to pass as it sounds like a fun thing to try.
