5 GARY HARTIGAN MEMORIAL AWARD REMEMBERING GARY HARTIGAN It is hard to remember a time when our good friend Gary Hartigan and his clear, precise, mellow and informative announcing was not a feature of Show Horse Council of Victoria events. Gary passed away in January 2018 after a short illness. Gary had enjoyed a long involvement with the Pony Club Association of Victoria. He was District Commissioner of the Dongala Pony Club; President of the South Metro Zone, and in more recent times President of the Australian Pony Owners and Breeders Association. When Gary and his wife Chris became involved in breeding Australian Ponies, he served a stint on the APSB Victorian Committee. The Show Horse community was stunned by the news of his passing. He is greatly missed and as a testimony to what he meant to the SHCV, we have instituted an award in his honour The Gary Hartigan Memorial Award which will be presented annually to a volunteer, selected by the SHCV, who is deemed to give extraordinary support (above and beyond what is asked of them) to Show Horse Council of Victoria events, following in the wonderful tradition and example set by Gary himself. The winner of the inaugural Gary Hartigan Memorial Award is Warren Worboys The beautiful trophy was presented by Chris Hartigan and we know it will be treasured by the worthy recipient.
