1 Talking Turkey The Pitt County Wildlife Club Newsletter March 2018 Welcome fellow PCWC members to this month s edition of the Talking Turkey newsletter. Please take a moment to read it and stay up-to-date with the various events and opportunities available at your club. Membership Meeting: on Thursday, March 15 th, beginning at 7:00 PM. The meal will consist of homemade chili made by club members for our annual Chili Cook-off. If you would like to participate and bring a pot of your special homemade chili please contact Kim Tavasso at (252) the more, the merrier. Participants will be reimbursed for their ingredients. The meal will cost $5.00 and will include a bread and beverage. The program for this meeting will be presented by Mr. Deet James who is the Hunting Heritage Biologist with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. His presentation will focus on Hunter Retention, Recruitment and Reactivation. I have seen his presentation elsewhere and found it very interesting and informative. Hope to see you then. March Workday: will be held on Saturday, March 17 th starting at 8:00 AM. Please bring the proper tools (rakes, weed eaters, hammers, gloves, wheelbarrows, carpentry items, etc.) to help with the workday task. This workday will focus on range repairs and general grounds clean-up. Always remember to sign-in when you arrive and pick-up your workday voucher before you leave. As a reminder, workday vouchers are non-transferable. This month s workday coordinator will be Kim Tavasso. Ranges are always closed during the workday. Our Spring Youth Day will immediately follow the workday. Hope you can make it to both. President s Notes: A lot is going on these days at the Club. Facilities maintenance and improvement is always a priority. Our sign was expertly restored and repainted recently. A new well was drilled as well this month. The old shallow well gave up the ghost during the big freeze after serving us for many years. We are currently working on better lighting and improvements to our range bays and berms. Please come out and enjoy the improvements. Happy Shooting!! I hope to see you at The Club! As always, please feel free to contact me with constructive ideas regarding the improvement of our Club. My phone number is (252) and address is joemcmillanbuilders@gmail.com. Sincerely, Joe McMillan President, Pitt County Wildlife Club Safety First: Range safety is the responsibility of every member. Always make safety your first priority. The range rules are in place for your safety and the safety of every member and guest. Please contact any CRSO, RSO or board member if you witness any egregious violations. CRSO s and RSO s can be identified by their red membership badges. - While anyone is downrange, DO NOT handle firearms, magazines or ammo for any reason. - Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. - Never attach any targets on a vertical post or shoot the post. - Always keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot - Range 6 is for rimfire rifles and handguns of all calibers only. (Centerfire rifles are not allowed on this range.) Page 1 of 5
