Presentation of participating Tokens to ALL ATHLETES will be done on Saturday, 17th March. SATURDAY, 17 March 2018 MALTA OPEN 2018 / MEDITERANEAN GRAND PRIX CHAMPIONSHIPS KUMITE... starts 9:00am NEW SPECIAL CATEGORIES ADAPTED KARATE for athletes with SPECIAL NEEDS to be introduced in this tournament. 7 RULES and REGULATIONS ON THE DAY KATA (Friday, 16 March Day 1... START 9:30 AM) All kata Categories will be judged by POINTS 4 Tatami will be used throughout the day (see area setup) Kata will be judged by points. If Category is less than 8 athletes : one round one kata. If Category more than 8 athletes : 2 rounds -2 kata (second round 8 Athletes pass). Chief Area Referee will inform athletes how many rounds. Any athlete can participate in any amount of Categories, if possible, there will be no waiting or stoppage of categories, simply to wait for an athlete. From the organizers side, we will do our best for everyone to take part in every category entered. Running Order sheet will be given to coaches and also uploaded on Website, nearer to date. If the same 2 competitors tie twice, final decision is to be taken by flags. All KATA categories under 14 years of age, (categories 1-22) first round should be strictly according to WUKF OFFICIAL KATA LIST (Round 1) - SHITEI Kata. Second round, competitor can perform his favourite Kata (TOKUI Kata). Categories 6,9,15,18,20,22,24,26,28,30,32,34,36,38 - Change Kata each round (3 rd kyu (brown and above)). All other Kata Categories can repeat same kata all rounds. Athletes can compete with their own coloured belt. There may be amalgamations of categories without notice, due to lack of athletes in the said events. Kindly note that in Team Kata and Pair Kata, one round one kata. If there is a draw, same kata can be repeated. (No Bunkai is needed in final). Medals will be awarded to the first, second and Joint third places.. Any known style kata will be allowed for all grades Categories with Music (Kobudo), will continue as normal like previous years, that is Music will be played whilst still other categories are run on other tatamis. The coach is to have the music on a USB Stick (NOT cds) as a backup and as to avoid any malfunction on the day. Coach will be ask to send by one week before the championships all Music (in mp3 format) with athletes details (name and length of music to be played) : NOT MORE THAN 1min 30sec. Very unique and nice Medals will be awarded to the first 4 places in ALL CATEGORIES. PARTICIPATION TOKEN TO EVERYONE ON THE SECOND DAY. KUMITE (Saturday, 17th March Day 2... START 9:00AM) Rules based on WUKF. Coaches and Referees will be briefed before the competition with all the changes by the chief referee before the Kumite section starts. Red and White Belts/ mitts ONLY... This tournament is on WUKF Guidelines (No Blue Mitts). Gum shields (a must) Clean gis are compulsory. Chest guards (ladies/girls) and groin guards are recommended. Face mask are compulsory for ALL Shobu Nihon Categories (Boys & Girls)... Category 74 till Category 87. Body Protectors are highly recommended but not compulsory. For health purposes, Helmits (face masks) are to be provided by the competitors. No T-shirts or other fancy type of equipment/gear is allowed (except in FREE STYLE forms Categories Kata Section)

8 Very IMPORTANT : For Safety reasons, any athletes without gum shields will NOT be allowed to fight the BOYS & GIRLS Categories. Coaches please take note. Every competitor is to provide his own equipment, protection, belts etc..etc. Team Kumite. You must be registered to a club or association you are competing. You must list all team members names on the entry form... In team kumite, if the first 2 bouts are won by the same team, that team will be awarded a 2-0 win. The last bout will not be fought. All team Categories are SHOBU IPPON Categories SHOBU NIHON (4 Wazari or 2 Ippon) Categories SHOBU SANBON (6 Wazari or 3 Ippon) Categories SHOBU IPPON (2 Wazari or 1 Ippon) Athletes can enter in both sections Ippon and Sanbon.

9 COMPETITION GUIDELINES Please ensure that your forms are filled in correctly, that is Name, sex, age, grade etc.etc. Mark the event(s) you are entering on the entry form, that is any of the numbers 1 to 131 of the category list. Enter total amount payable per competitor and Licence Number. Friday, 16th March 2018 : Juniors KATA event begin at 9:30AM sharp. First events will be MASTERS/ SENIORS and Team / Pair Kata... Children / Juniors/ Cadets/ Seniors... Saturday, 17 March 2018 : KUMITE starts 9:00am. The minimum number of competitors per event category and the cancellation of events is at the discretion of the organisers. Full amount is to be settled before closing date, and sent with entry forms or by Bank Transfer (See details above). STRICTLY No late entries on the day. All clubs / organizations are asked if possible to provide a Referee/judge who s names must be entered on the slip provided. They will be given free entry on the day for their services, refreshments and special event tokens plus others. Only the official coach on duty (with tag) may approach the control table for any queries. Competitors and spectators must go via their coach for information. Spectators entry fees for the day is Eur14.00 which you will pay at the spectators entrance table. Pr-booking (online) will ONLY COST YOU EUR10 (for 2 days) Every competitor will be presented with a participation TOKEN KARATE SECTION : An overall Winners TROPHY will be presented to the team/club with the highest score at the end of the Championships. Points 10 points (first place), 5 points (second place) 2 points (third place) KOBUDO SECTION : An overall Winners TROPHY will be presented to the team/club with the highest score at the end of the Championships. Points 10 points (first place), 5 points (second place) 2 points (third place) The SPECIAL AWARDS SHIELD will also be presented to the WINNING TEAM at the end of the event on Saturday. This is a special award which shows all the history of winning teams of the MALTA OPEN EDITIONS since 2003 and is kept by organizers.
