2 July National Championships Dear Athletes, Parents, Officials and Coaches On behalf of Australia Taekwondo I extend a very warm invitation for you to participate in our fifth Australian National Taekwondo Championships, which will be held in Bendigo Victoria, this coming September. We are very excited to once again receive the support of the Bendigo Council in staging the event in their regional city, and also for it to be held in the newly constructed Bendigo Stadium, and we thank them for their generous support. This year s National Championships will offer colour and black belt divisions for Sparring, Poomsae, Para- Taekwondo and the disciplines of Self Defence and Breaking, which we believe will make the event even more spectacular and popular. The Championships will also serve as the selection event for the Australian Team to contest the 2018 World Poomsae Championships which will be held in November in Taiwan. In addition, for sparring athletes aspiring for the Australian Team to contest the 2019 World Senior Championships in the United Kingdom next May, these championships have been deemed one of the mandatory events to be considered for team selection. The National Championships are therefore well positioned to be the premier national taekwondo event in Australia this year and you will find all the information needed for registration within this information package. 5 01 Event Overview COMPETITION VENUE: Bendigo Stadium 134 Marong Rd West Bendigo VIC 3350 COMPETITION DATES: Saturday 22 Monday 24 September 2018 EVENT IMPORTANCE: Alongside national selection events that may be conducted from time to time, the National Championships play an important role in determining Australia's best athletes and coaches. ENTRIES OPEN: Saturday 1 August Results obtained at the National Championships, by athletes and coaches, may be used as evidence of performance by a selection panel, and consideration may also be given to the final placings and/or head to head results for selection to national teams, ranking systems or competition seedings for competitions as they may arise in the future. 6 03 Contestant Eligibility AGE: Age is calculated as at 31 December MEMBERSHIP: 2018 National Championships Entrants must be registered members of Australian Taekwondo and in good standing with the Organisation at the date of Registration, with no outstanding financial obligations. CONTESTANT ELIGIBILITY: The Colour Belt Divisions are open to AT members achieving a top four (4) placing in their State Selection Competition in their relevant divisions. COACH ELIGIBILITY: 04 Entry Limitations Black Belts where required by their states shall have competed in their State Selection Competition in their relevant divisions. If unable to attend due to competing in international WT Events please provide a copy of international entry form or player card. In the fairness of competition, athletes MUST compete in their correct belt grade. Disqualification and disciplinary action will be taken against any athlete and their coach where cheating is verified. Sparring Coaches must have a Club Talent Coach accreditation issued by Australian Taekwondo and must be a registered member of Australian Taekwondo as at date of entry. Access to the competition floor will be denied without the pass. Coaches must register online at by Sunday 3 September Poomsae coaches will only be allowed on the floor for the WT divisions on Sunday 23 September SPARRING: Juniors who are 17 years as at 31 December 2018 may enter either the Junior or Senior divisions, but not both. All other athletes may only enter their designated sparring age division. POOMSAE: 05 General Information Athletes may enter eligible WT divisions (Sunday) and eligible Championship events (Monday) and will be charged for events as per fee the schedule. DECLARATION FORMS: REFUND POLICY: Once registered, entrants will be ed an Entry Declaration Form which confirms their entered event or events. These forms must be co-signed by the Head Instructor and presented at Registration. Where applicable entries will also be forwarded to the relevant state team manager for verification against state selection results and state team lists. Entrants may modify their entry online until the Closing Date. Division change requests after this date will be accepted until midnight on 17 September 2018 only by ing your request to events@austkd.com.au. 7 UNCONTESTED ENTRIES: Uncontested entrants may elect to receive either a medal or a full refund. Contestants wishing to receive a medal are to present on court in full uniform when called up on the day of competition. All divisions will be awarded First, Second and Third placings with Gold, Silver and 2 Bronze medals, the latter subject to the number of contestants in the respective divisions. Players must provide and wear a WT recognised dobok (AT badge must be worn on left arm), groin guard (female and male), shin guards, arm guards, sensor socks and hand gloves, and clear or white mouth guard for the competition. Players must supply their own WT approved sensor socks. These will not be provided by the Organising Committee, but limited supplies will be available for purchase at Registration. All contestants will be required to proceed to the Inspection Desk prior entering the competition area. Any contestant wearing unofficial equipment will not be permitted on the competition floor. A list of companies which supply WTF -recognised doboks and protective equipment can be found HERE. Championship Competition: Coloured belts must wear white V neck dobok. Black Belts must wear black V neck or official WTF wrap style dobok. AT badge must be worn on left arm. WT Competition: WT wrap style dobok. See Guidelines. No stripes or sponsorship markings are to be worn on any Poomsae dobok. Sparring competition for Blue, Red and Black Belts in all divisions will use Daedo ehogus body protectors. ehead protectors will only be used for divisions with head kicks. All eprotectors will be provided at the time of competition. All Divisions will be scored using ipad scoring (one player at a time). By entering to compete or officiate at this Event, you are agreeing to have your image taken while in the venue by Australian Taekwondo, its official representatives, the media and members of the public. In addition, you are agreeing to have your image shown on Australian Taekwondo social media, website, video, enews, TV and any other forms of publication. All participants partake in the competition at their own risk. While all care is taken, the Organising Committee and their representatives can take no responsibility, under any circumstances, for any damages, injuries or loss to individuals or equipment. 10 Freestyle Poomsae Instructions 1. Complete the Freestyle Performance Plan ensuring the mandatory items 1 5 are written in detail. This should include clear description of kicks, acrobatic action, sequence of kicks etc. Submit Freestyle Performance plan at Registration. 2. Submit music on line in MP3 format via the Music Uploader. 3. Music must have beep at start to indicate start for athlete. Music must not include vocal performance. 4. As a backup bring a USB in a plastic bag with your name and Division clearly labelled on the bag and USB labelled with your name and present at Registration. 11 11 Rules Sparring WEIGH-IN: COMPETITION: VIDEO REVIEW: PENALTIES NON-HEAD KICK DIVISIONS: GOLDEN POINT: MISCONDUCT: Poomsae CHAMPIONSHIP POOMSAE Minimum dress code during weigh-in will be underpants for males, and underpants and bra for female athletes. Weigh-in the nude will not be allowed. Separate female and male weigh-in facilities will be provided. Weight tolerance of 200gms will be allowed for all colour belts grades. The competition format is a single elimination tournament system. WT Competition Rules as introduced in June 2018 will be applied. Video reviews for all divisions. Any head kick, whether intentional or through the lack of control, will be treated as attacking the head with fist or hand and the appropriate penalty applied. All matches that result in a tied score at the end of the third round will progress to a Golden Point round. As per the World Taekwondo rules, Yellow Cards will be enforced by Referees for any misconduct by Coaches or Players. For Family, Teams and Pairs Poomsae, and Self Defence, where players have paired or teamed with a higher ranked belt, they will contest the category of the highest ranked belt in their entered group. 12 Para Taekwondo Sparring GENERAL GUIDELINES: This category is for Athletes with a recognisable and verifiable disability and the following information will be required to determine the divisions. Please events@austkd.com.au with details of: o the classification of your disability o the event you wish to enter (please use the invitation as a guide) o contact person s name, and mobile phone number (if required) Event Organisers will contact all athletes, or their nominated contact to discuss any special needs in relation to the performance. Events for Athletes with Disabilities will be run concurrently with Sparring on Sunday 23 September and Poomsae on Monday 24 September. All entries will be subject to approval by the AT Medical Committee QUALIFICATIONS: In accordance with Article 4: Qualification of Contestant and Article 22: Para- Taekwondo of the WT Competition Rules, the contestant must go through classification and be assigned Sport Class and Sport Class Status before the competition. Classification of Kyorugi athletes will take place before the event to be advised.

Under Championship rules there are certain compulsory elements a. The three compulsory stances that must be included are i. Back stance (Dwitkubi) ii. Crane stance (Hakdari seogi) iii. Tiger stance (Beom seogi) The routine that must have the following elements, but skills modified to allow development. b. First element is flying side kick and will remain same c. Second element is aerial multiple jump front kicks i. Athletes must do minimum of three kicks to score. We will allow single jump front kick as our base score. Athlete will get scored higher for more kicks in action. d. Third element is spinning action measured on angle of spin and in air i. We will also allow the base level 180 degree turning kick on ground and athletes will be judged higher if they can perform more difficult turns such as 360, 540 and 720 kicks in air

14 MUSIC RULES: e. Fourth element is the execution of consecutive kicks resembling a fight routine. This begins with compulsory 3-5 bounces and then executes 3-5 kicking actions forward. f. Fifth element is the acrobatic action. i. We will allow any acrobatic action even if it does not have kick involved but athletes that perform higher standard of action where action has kick and is aerial will be judged with higher scores. Music for the routine shall have no singing or speaking, otherwise the contestant will be disqualified. All music must be uploaded in MP3 format to File Upload by 17 September Music received after this date may not necessarily be available at the competition. 14 Para Taekwondo Poomsae GENERAL GUIDELINES: QUALIFICATIONS: This category is for Athletes with a recognisable and verifiable disability and the following information will be required to determine the divisions. Athletes may use appropriate support options, such as another athlete performing in a pair. Where possible, performances will be categorised by disability. Athletes may perform a pattern(s) of their own choice. Judging will be subjective using appropriately qualified judges who will give consideration to the performance on the day and the degree of difficulty, based on the severity and type of the disability. In accordance with Article 4: Qualification of Contestant and Article 22: Para- Taekwondo of the WT Competition Rules, the contestant must go through classification and be assigned Sport Class and Sport Class Status before the competition. Classification of Poomsae athletes will take place before the event to be advised. Competition method is by Cut-Off. Contestants should note the following requirements: o To avoid any injury, the attacker s weapons must be imitations. o The theme of self-defence can be chosen freely. o Use of sound effects is not allowed. o Expressing the divided movements are not allowed. o The defending contestant must not carry weapons. o The self-defence routine must not be comical. o Exaggerated actions and overuse of violence are not allowed. o Items used in the presentation do not impact the scoring. Contestants shall attack and defend by using hands and feet to strike, kick, punch, thrust, twist, lock, and throw opponents. Contestants are to constantly attack and block in multiple directions. 16 16 Board Breaking 2018 National Championships Board Breaking Gender Male and female Age Group Belt Rank Black Belt Only Cost $5 per designated board. Contestants may keep unbroken boards. TECHNICAL BREAKING RULES: Each contestant must supply their own holders. Organising Committee will supply holders with safety goggles, which must be worn by all participants. Boards 19mm in thickness for Males and 15mm for Females are 300mm square. Contestants must indicate on their Entry Form the number of boards required. No padding is to be worn on the hands or feet when breaking. Single boards must be used for each strike, multiple targets are permissible and will be awarded 1 point per board broken within each of the 5 designated breaks, however if one board is missed when attempting a multiple break this will earn a score of zero. Boards shall not be doubled up for technical breaking. Note: Five breaks are to be performed, each of a different technique. Scoring to be determined as per the Scoring Sheet reference below. POWER BREAKING RULES: This competition is for hand techniques only. Male contestants may choose to break with a Closed Fist, or Knife Hand Strike and boards are 19mm in thickness and 300mm square. Female contestants must break with an Open Hand Strike (Palm Heel or Knife Hand Strike) and boards are 15mm in thickness and 300mm square. Contestants must indicate on the Entry Form the number of boards required. No padding is to be worn on the hands when breaking. 10mm spacers will be provided to be used between boards. Power break will be performed on two standard size cement blocks which will be provided. Only one attempt is permitted. At least one foot must be in contact with the ground at all times. FOOT BREAKING RULES: This competition is for foot techniques only and breaking shall only be accomplished with the knife or heel of the foot. Boards 19mm in thickness for Males and 15mm for Females are 300mm square. Contestants must indicate on the Entry Form the number of boards required. No shoes or padding is to be worn on the feet when breaking. In executing the break, contestants must maintain one foot on the ground. Breaking must commence within 30 seconds of the command to break. Contestants touching the ground with any part of their body, other than their knee, after completing their break will be disqualified. SCORE SHEET: Breaking Score Sheet can be downloaded HERE.
