3 SSA Northern Hemisphere FIS Alpine Program PROGRAM VISION We are one sport, Alpine and Ski Cross, developing a sustainable pipeline of world class athletes who are highly skilled skiers capable of achieving success at World Cup, World Championships and Olympic Winter Games. Australia s most recently sustained success in alpine and ski cross has come through enduring team environments. This FIS program will recreate this sense of team in a supportive and competitive atmosphere encompassing athletics and academics. AIMS AND GOALS Through a multi discipline approach we will ensure that our athletes have the necessary skills to pursue their passion in whichever direction it takes them. The aim is to bring together Australia s top talent into a team environment, in the cultural heart of World Cup ski racing. Through our partnership with the High Performance Centre at Leogang, athletes will be given the tools to enhance all aspects of their athletics. In conjunction with Australian Athlete Tutoring there is opportunity for athletes to reach the desired number of days on snow, while staying up to date with their academics. Tutoring services will cater up to the completion of year 12. More information regarding ATT is available at the back of the brochure. PROGRAM DATES Full time program 5 December, April, 2017 Part time program 5 December, January, 2017 LOCATION The base will be located in the Leogang/ Saalfelden area in Austria, 2.5 hours drive from Munich airport. This area; in the heart of the Salzburger Land, is home to many National teams and boasts world class training venues and facilities to cater to the needs of all of our athletes. Leogang offers access to exceptional free skiing and training opportunities for our National programs. The Skicircus Saalbach/ Hin-terglemm/ Leogang/ Fieberbrunn is one of the biggest connected ski resorts in Europe offering over 270km of trails and 70 modern cable cars and lifts. Athletes will have the Salzburger Super Ski Card, which offers unlimited access to 35 ski resorts in Salzburg and Tirol. FACILITIES The Leogang High Performance Centre is geared towards performance optimization, including a gym, state-of-the-art video analyzing system, physiotherapy, equipment service, lounge, etc. Performance optimization is delivered by expert staff in the areas of technique, physical conditioning, sports psychology, nutrition, equipment and well-being. The High Performance Center (HPC) Leogang provides the following services: Custom designed gym for Alpine ski racers (cardio, cross-fit, olympic lifting, functional strength training, etc.) Physical conditioning program delivery by the HPC physical conditioning coach Access to Sports physiotherapist working out of the Performance Center Leogang Acess to Sports psychologist and nutritionist workshops (individual consultation on demand) Ski-tuning service station including ski/binding/bootsetup optimization State-of-the-art Video-Analyzing System (WLan cameras, high-speed cameras, Dartfish, Mac workstations, flat-screens), HRV-Monitor, etc Most importantly, Leogang is ideally located to access the following world class training venues: Injected training hills Hinterreit (15 min drive) Zell am See (20 min drive) Kirchberg (50 min drive) Tech and speed training hills Leogang (3 min drive) Hinterreit and Maria Alm (15 min drive) Kaprun Maiskogel and Kitzsteinhorn glacier (30 min drive) Hinterglemm (35 min drive or skiing access via Leogang / Saalbach) Ski cross training venues Leogang (terrain park SX elements training) SSA has a WC SX start gate at Leogang Saalbach (SX track - 30 min drive or skiing access via Leogang) Reiteralm (SX track - 60 min drive)

5 COACHES and STAFF Alpine Program Director Brad Wall will oversee the planning and progression of the program. Christoph Stoffl Maier will manage the day to day logistics, and coordinate all local service providers including the AAT tutor and High Performance Centre staff and providers. Raphael Galler will be the head coach for the Junior FIS Program. Raph has had an extensive ski racing career in Austria competing at FIS and National Championship level, at his peak Raphael was ranked 120th in the world in Super G, quite an achievement. His knowledge in speed disciplines is welcome as we work to increase speed exposure to our young athletes. Numbers in the National FIS Program are limited, athletes selected in the National Teams will have priority in being chosen. It is imperative that all interested athletes register their interest on the SSA website or by contacting Brad Wall, and submitting an expression of interest / application form for the Alpine FIS Northern Hemisphere Program. Once all applications have been submitted the selection panel will select athletes based on generic selection factors including ranking, coaches input, performance, fitness, attitude, motivation, coachability and potential to improve. ATHLETE REQUIREMENTS All athletes are required to complete the following: State based physical testing Individual Performance Plan (IPP) All requested paper work and waivers ACCOMMODATION Accommodation will be in the Leogang/ Saalfelden area (TBC) EQUIPMENT REQUIRED Athletes will require the following equipment: Skis meeting FIS standards in GS/SL/SG/DH Crash helmets meeting FIS standards Back protection Personal tuning equipment and wax TRANSPORT On ground transportation will be provided at the base area, as well as to/from local completion days. Transfers to and from Munich airport, on designated travel days will also be provided. Shuttle transfers will be arranged for travel outside of designated travel days, at additional cost to the athlete. FOOD More information will be provided once the accommodation is confirmed. COMPETITIONS The program will target FIS/NJR/CIT/NJC races. These circuits are age appropriate and provide athletes the opportunity to be competitive at NJR and CIT races, as well as exposing them to the challenge of FIS racing in Europe. High performing athletes who meet the selection standard for World Junior Championships will have the opportunity to compete at this bench mark event. You will also need to purchase and International Competition License (ICL) and provide confirmation of your travel and competition insurance policy. 11 HIGH PERFORMANCE CENTER LEOGANG AUSTRALIAN ATHLETE TUTORING Since the 2015/16 season, we have sucessfully integrated an academic tutoring program into the programs at Leogang which allow athletes to train and compete in Europe during the Australian school term 1. The tutoring program is scheduled for the period AUSTRALIAN ATHLETE TUTORING (AAT) is an educational program founded in 2011 by Tracey and Peter Hand. Tracey and Peter are passionate and highly qualified teachers who understand that every child has an innate capacity to learn and that it is the experiences and guidance provided by parents and educators that have the greatest influence on their educational outcomes. The team at Australian Athlete Tutoring is committed to working with students, parents and schools to maximise the academic development of young people. AAT have developed a range of flexible learning options to support and tutor children who take time off school to pursue ski racing. Staff also liaise with each athlete s school, their teachers and develop individualised learning programs to ensure they are not academically compromised whilst they are away from school skiing. AAT can support and assist students to reach their academic potential whilst they pursue their passion for ski racing. For the 2016/17 season, we welcome Mel Rothman to the team at Leogang: I am a passionate educator, advocate and carer of young people. I relish opportunities that allow me to build positive and constructive relationships with students, which enable me to support them personally, in their academic endeavours and pursuits as elite athletes. Mel is a highly qualfied educator who will be living at Australia House and will teach the athletes in a designated classroom at the local secondary school. Further, Mel will also support Regina in fulfilling the chaperon role at Australia House & will communicate with parents via weekly reports. The center is geared towards performance optimization, including a gym, state-of-the-art video analyzing system, physiotherapy, service station, lounge, etc. Performance optimization is delivered by expert staff in the areas of technique, physical conditioning, sports psychology, nutrition, equipment and well-being.
