September 2015 OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE FORDS UNLIMITED CAR CLUB A s our rainy car show season comes to an end, we still have lots to do this month. We will hold our board of directors meeting on September 2nd at the Dorsett Syberg s. Our membership meeting will be held on September 9th at the Sports Café. We will attend the Wheels in Motion Day at Westport Plaza on September 13th. This event is more of a display that raises funds for kids with cancer. We will meet at the Syberg s on Dorsett at 9 am and leaving at 9:15 am. We end the month by hosting the car cruise at JJ s of O Fallon. JJ s is located at Ft. Zumwalt Square on Veterans Memorial Parkway, just east of Ft. Zumwalt Park. Exit Highway 70 at the O Fallon exit, go to the top of the hill and make a right turn. JJ s will be on your left less than a mile down Veterans Parkway. The cruise is held 11 am to 3 pm. Their phone number is These are club events. We have been asked to be judges again for the EPC car show that will be held on October 10th in St. Charles. This is a great opportunity to learn how to judge. No experience is necessary. Please contact Syl Biermann if you are interested. We need at least fifteen members to be available for this This just in. The Mustang club of St. Louis will be having a cruise this month (August) at the Hot Shots on Manchester road. It is from 1-4 that afternoon, and is display only. The charity is Wonderland camp, with a suggested $15.00 a car to that charity. Note that this was a late addition, as it will be held on August 29th. This is not a club event It s that time of the year again. We will be taking nominations for new officers for the upcoming P.O. Box Ballwin, MO Board of Directors Syl Biermann Paula Goodrich Dan Kelly Rich Sutorius Josh Johnson Secretary-Cindy Ahrens Editor Bob Layton or mickie6t6@hotmail.com Publisher-Bill & Barb Giese Web Master-Scott Lewis Keirsten McDaniel year. Current members, Paula Goodrich and Rich Sutorius will finish their term on December 31st. Syl Biermann, Dan Kelly and Josh Johnson will serve another year. The new board members will serve a two year term. We would like to have at least three members run for the two openings. This is not a difficult job and you won t be asked to do anything that you are not comfortable with. All nominations must be in by October with the election held in November. Give it some thought. I t s hard to believe, but it s time to start our toy drive. Starting this month, we will donate the club s half of the drawings at our membership meetings to our Christmas Toy Drive campaign to benefit Toys for Tots. We will continue this through December. We will also be collecting toys and cash donations at our membership meetings through December. Since we get a discount on the toy purchases, it may be easier to donate the cash but either will be appreciated. Toys must be new and unwrapped. M ark your calendars, our date for our Fall color tour will be October 18th. The tour is still being planned but we know that we will end up at a wine garden in Weingarten, Missouri. Again this year, we will not be having a BBQ as we will be dining at the winery. We will have details posted in next months newsletter but we will need a confirmed head count and your reservation must be made with a check for your party. Stay tuned.
September 2015 Page 2 T he Show-Me Mustang Club held their annual Mustang and all Ford car show at Pundmann Ford in St. Charles. The August 1st event was blessed with good seasonal weather and drew over 160 participants. Our club had 27 cars and trucks registered and we were able to win the grand attendance prize of $50 which was donated to their clubs Toys for Tots drive. Thirteen of our members took home a trophy plaque and our own Paula Goodrich took home the Most Likely to Get a Ticket award. Her reputation precedes her. All in all, it was a great day for both their club and our club. 4 September 2015 Page 4 O n the weekend of August 22nd-23rd, members of our club caravanned to Jefferson City, mainly to tour the closed State Prison, but also to tour Jefferson Landing and the Missouri State Capitol building. Our club met at the McDonalds in Lake St. Louis for a quick breakfast and viewed dark clouds to the west. By the time we reached the highway, the rain started and later turned into very heavy rain. After a couple of pit stops, we finally arrived in the state capitol. We first headed to the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site to tour some of the oldest buildings in the city, both being built after Missouri became a state in After the tour, we headed to a local Bandana s for lunch. As you know, our club travels on its stomach. After lunch, we toured the capitol building and learned much about the area s rich history and many interesting stories about the building itself. After that tour, we checked into our hotel, and then partied in the Syl and Judy Biermann room to prepare for dinner. Thank goodness, more food. Heading out for a late dinner, we gathered at Arris Pizza Palace for some really
September 2015 Page 5 great food and service. With 24 of us arriving at once, it can be a challenge for their staff, but it worked out well. We then took a night tour of the areas surrounding the capitol building. It was truly beautiful at night. After morning breakfast on Sunday at our hotel, we arrived at the prison for a 10 am tour. WOW. The tour was informative, educational and somewhat daunting. We learned of the cruelty the prisoners endured from the time that the penitentiary opened in 1836 until it closed in 2004, although many things had improved by the mid-1960 s. The prison was once called the bloodiest 47 acres in America. The prison once held Pretty Boy Floyd, Sonny Liston, and James Earl Ray who excaped. The toured finished with viewing the gas chamber which also had photos of all of the 40 prisoners who were executed there. Having not eaten for at least a couple of hours, we headed to Prison Brews for lunch. Great lunch, but we were not finished. Having a group sweet tooth, we headed to Central Dairy for ice cream. It was a fitting way to finish our trip. Being well fed, we all headed home from this great tour. Being known for our Uturns, our only one was by your editor as I followed the wrong car and had to make the u-turn. Thanks go out to Jim Biermann who did all of the planning including an earlier trip to Jeff City to make sure that all would go well, as it surely did. Great job Jim!
September 2015 Page 6 O n August 15th, our club participated in a car show to benefit Voyager 40/8 and 8/40 Veteran Organizations. The show was held at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Missouri. Beside a car show, we were also able to watch a dog show. The show had about a hundred or so entrees with our club having 16 cars in attendance. Strangely, the show had seven Corvette classes and only two Mustang classes with only 1st and 2nd place ribbons and no trophies. At least it didn t rain. Photo s and information provided by Bill Giese. Additional info provided by Dan Kelly.
September 2015 Page 7 T his month we welcome two new members. Aruo Ellis has joined. Aruo and Ruth live in Edwardsville and own a 04 Thunderbird, a 13 Mustang, MCA edition, and a 09 Flex. Also joining is Gary Rowe who resides in St. Ann. Gary drives a 93 Saleen Mustang. Welcome! We will start this month with our first notice on dues for Dues are due by December 31st and will remain at $20 and $10 for another member at the same address. Our club was able to win the club participation at the Show-Me Mustang show but it was announced that we had 14 participants. In reality, we had 27 entrees but 13 members did not acknowledge that they were a club member. Please look on the registration form to see if they ask for a club and show that you are proud of your club. At this show, they had a separate sheet to sign for club participation. Fords Unlimited members: Be advised that Ford models to include the Ford GT of , Ford Mustang and Ford Ranger are included in the recall.
