January 2019 Page 2 As we start the new year, we always take time to reflect on our past year. The following is a sampling of our outstanding 2018 year. January As always, our year starts with our annual Awards Banquet. One of our most popular events, it s a celebration of the previous year and a great start to our new year. That night we thanked our 2017 board of directors for their work. They included Bill Bauer, Jim Biermann, Syl Biermann, Paula Goodrich, and Dan Kelly. The new BOD was introduced that included Jim Biermann, Syl Biermann, Paula Goodrich, Dennis McBee, and Dan Kelly. Our points winners from 1st to last included Bob Layton, Ken Farrar, Bart McNail, Mike McCallister, Jake Turnipseed, Dennis McBee, Burt Pennington and Jim Richardson (tie), Jerry Grimmer, Sharon Apollo and Barb Dennis (tie), and John Sullivan. Our first club event of the year was a tour of the Manchester Police Department set-up by Dennis McBee. Our points race rules and prizes were tweaked and we started another year of competition. February On the 17th, thanks to Dan Kelly, we toured Precision Restorations, an auto restoration shop in St. Louis. We learned that the cost of a total restoration can really be expensive. Also on the 17th, our club attended a trivia night to support the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association. Our club donated a basket for the raffle crafted by Donna Layton. The SCAA donates AED s from the profit that they make from their trivia night. March Our first outdoor event was a snowy trip to Villa Ridge to the St. Johns Gildenhaus Church for their all you can eat chicken dinner. Great food and fun with friends. On the 24th, we toured MotoXotica to view their collection of a variety of cars for sale. We followed that with a trip to T.J. Wings for lunch. Jerry Grimmer is still waiting for his food. April The Mustang Club of St. Louis held their annual Mustang Roundup. Although listed as Mustang only, our club is allowed to bring any of our cars. That day started out at 25 degrees and didn t get much warmer. Despite the cold, we had 20 cars and trucks of the 33 in attendance. On the 17th, we gathered at the Rock Road A&W to celebrate the Mustang s birthday. On the 21st, we took a road trip to Greenville, Illinois to tour the DeMoulin Museum which was followed with lunch at the Diamond Mineral Springs restaurant. Every thing ends with food for our club. We thank Dennis McBee for setting up this event. May Our month started out on a sad note as we had to accept the resignation of Syl Biermann from our BOD. Syl needed a break after a long tenure guiding our club. Jerry Grimmer stepped up to fill that position. Our first show of the month was the Rich Hamlyn car show to benefit Camp Hope, that supports our wounded veterans. The next planned show was the Salute to the Troops car show to benefit our veterans. Unfortunately, mother nature had other plans and the show was cancelled when the thunder and lightning arrived. The show was rescheduled. Although not club events, some of our members attended the Valley of Flowers car show and parade. June An new event for our club was the Ranken Jordan car show to benefit Ranken Jordan Bridge Hospital for kids. Our club did well and this may be on our show list in Our first club cruise of the year was held at the Kirkwood Sonic. The great weather brought out 25 cars and 35 members and family. On the 10th we attended Bommarito night at the River City Rascals ball game. $3 from each ticket went to H.E.R.O.E.S. Care. Our own Dan Kelly threw out a perfect first pitch. The Dave Sinclair Cruise was moved back to June. We supported big time with 34 cars and trucks in attendance which was most of the cars at the cruise. The event benefits The BackStoppers. We finished the month by supporting the Kaylee Pritchitt car show to benefit a sick little girl. We had 21 registered vehicles and many members took home a trophy. July We started July with a trip to Granite City for the Patriots in the Park car show. Our club had 26 of the 100 cars and trucks registered and some of our ladies participated in the festival next door. That day finished with a visit to Ravanelli s for lunch. Our July club cruise was held at the Arnold Culvers. As usual, this just for fun event is always popular and we had another great turnout this month. Of course the main event of the month was our 32nd annual all Ford show held on the 28th. We start that weekend with a BBQ the night before our show. That night, we dedicated a tree and plaque to honor our dear friend, Cindy Ahrens. Unfortunately, rain was in the forecast for our car show the next day and our attendance was way down from the previous years. Pam Anderson donated her winnings to our toy drive. Thanks Pam. This was our first show without Cindy, but our members jumped in and did a great job. Our show could not happen with out our great sponsors, especially our major sponsors, Sinclair Ford, Bommarito Ford, and Ed Akers Insurance. Continued on page 3

January 2019 Page 3 August On the 8th, we headed to Jerseyville, Illinois for their D.A.R.E. car show. It was a good show but the long distance kept most of our members away. This month s club cruise was held at the Steak & Shake in Maryland Heights. Our turnout was great but the service was very poor again this year. We will find a new location this year. We finished our month by being the sponsor club for the morning/ afternoon car cruise at JJ s in O Fallon Missouri. Mike McCallister won the first car award, but Mike is always first to arrive at most of our events. September This month we start taking nominations for our 2019 board of directors. Also plans were in place for our fall color tour. One of our long time charity events is the Wheels in Motion day held to benefits the National Children s Cancer Society. Besides our members entry fees, our club donated an additional $300. The rescheduled Salute to the Troops car show offered better weather than the rain out that we had in the spring. This show also benefits our veterans and we donated an additional $100 to this cause. Lynette and Scott Lewis chair this show with help from Kenny and Gwen Simms and Bart McNail. We ended the month with the Rides for Guides car show. Burt Pennington and Mike Lloyd are part of this show that benefits Rides for Guides, service dogs for the blind. Our club donated $100 to their cause (although they announced that we had donated $1,000). Our final club cruise for the year was held at Fuddruckers. It was a little chilly for September but as usual, we had a great turnout with 24 people. October Another first club show for our club was the Misfit Toyz car show. The show had TOP 55 winners but the show only had 54 registered cars so every one got a trophy. There was not a trophy presentation, we just lined up and were handed our trophies. Our final show of the year was the Immaculate Conception car show held in Columbia, Illinois. This was a very cold show but drew about 90 cars. We had 16 cars entered with 15 taking home a trophy. We ended the month with our one of our most popular events, our fall color tour. This year we headed down scenic Historic Route 66 Byway and ended up in Cuba Missouri, the Mural City. After touring the Cuba Fest, we headed down the road to Bob s Gasoline Alley for a great buffet and viewed his vast collection of automotive memorabilia. It should be noted that we did NOT make a u-turn this time. We thank Syl Biermann for setting up our tour. November We started the month with a tour of the Mungenast Museum with lunch at Salinas Mexican Restaurant. We again participated in the Arnold and the Florissant Veteran s Day parades. Cold weather and a few snow flakes greeted parade goers but we made a good showing. The Arnold parade, although short, offered our members a fine lunch and a presentation from the Fox school students. Kevin Hall of Bommarito was in attendance at the Florissant parade with a military truck and loaned Caption Dan Kelly a mean looking Ford 350. It was a cold day to put the convertible tops down but we did anyway. This year we increased our participation with the USO. In addition to those generous from club members, Scott and Lynette Lewis matched the club's $500 donation with another $500 to purchase food. Syl and Judy Biermann and Mark and Sandra Carey bought all of the necessary non-perishable food for the seventy bags. They met at the Biermann home one afternoon and filled each bag with nine items. All the "baskets" and the five checks that were made out to the USO were delivered at our appointed time on Monday, October 29th. The five checks were donations from Mike Lechwar, Jason Gould, Cyndi Trauernicht, Bill and Donna Bauer, and Steve and Virginia Schneider. We also had our elections for our 2019 board of directors this month. The three members elected or re-elected included Dan Kelly, Jerry Grimmer, and John Walling. We finished the month with our annual toy shopping day to supply the Marines for the Toys for Tots campaign. This was moved up from December to give all involved an early start. After the shopping, all of the toys were delivered to Dave Sinclair Ford and we filled two trucks with Christmas toys, and as usual, lunch soon followed. December As the year came to an close, we again supported the Veterans Home in North County with a $500 donation. We also made a donation of $2,500 to The BackStoppers, to benefit fallen first responders. We ended the year with 163 members, our largest membership ever. Although badly missed, we survived our first full year without our great friend, Cindy Ahrens. She would be pleased. With generous donations from our members and funds from our treasury, we have also donated a total of $6,040 to our various charities with The BackStoppers and Toys for Tots being our major benefactors. What a great way to end a very successful year.

January 2019 Page 4 O n December 6th, members of our club finished this year s support for the USO at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. After our Thanksgiving basket donations, we had some funds left over and they were spent for various snacks to be given to our traveling military personal during the Christmas season. This local USO receives no funding from the national group and rely on donations. While there, we were able to tour the facility that offers a respite for our troops. We thank our members who were able to donate their time on this cold, rainy day.

It finished another very successful year with this holiday tradition. photos by Dan Kelly W e finished our charity donations for the year by donating a check to The BackStoppers for $2,500 for their work helping fallen first responders. 6 January 2019 Page 6 A s we start a new year for our club, I can t help but mention outgoing BOD member, Jim Biermann. Besides being our car show chairman for so many years, he has always stepped up for our club when needed and has been one of the best assets our club has ever had. Thanks Jim for your great service. In the holiday spirit, we gave gift cards to the employees of Hilary s. They open their restaurant just for us and it is truly appreciated. Our special guest at our December meeting was Kevin Hall of Bommarito. Kevin came baring gifts including five $100 service certificates that were drawn after our drawing which was won by John and Connie Luczak. It s that time of the year that the weather could effect our board of directors and membership meetings. If you are unsure if a board meeting will be held, contact any board member. The information above is what we feel that will work for the club at this time. Also, our monthly club cruises are not point events. and let them know that a meeting has been cancelled. Their phone number is If at all possible, we will hold a meeting as scheduled as it is difficult to reschedule. Just a reminder of newsletter deadlines. Any information must be submitted by our membership meeting. Ads for our classified section can be submitted by the 20th. If you have information on upcoming car shows, please let us know. We have been asked to display our cars and trucks for a charity event at the Walmart in O Fallon, Missouri. The event will be held on Saturday, April 13th. We will post more details when available. Our points competition starts this month. The rules and awards are posted on page 7. It s just for fun and gives our members a challenge for the year.

January 2019 Page 7 L isted below are the points rules for this year. There are no changes from last year. The points competition was started many years ago to encourage our members to be more active and to award those who were. The Points rules and prizes are determined by the board of directors and the revised rules and prize list is usually ready for distribution by January. Board members will keep extra copies of the rules to give to new members as they come into the club during the year. The board will adjust the rules and prizes as needed. If our car show is successful, we will add gift certificates for the top ten finishers. This is in addition to the prizes listed for the top five finishers. The extra certificates are decided on later in the year, after the guidelines have already been distributed, depending on the financial success of our car show. Dennis McBee is in charge of the points. He will supply the book and distribute it at all board and general meetings. It will also be available at all club events. If the board member cannot be at an event, he will find a replacement who will be in attendance. New member sponsorships will be added each month. Car show sponsorship will not be added until all of the classes are sold. It saves confusion that way. Extra points can be given by the board for extra efforts by members. If you are in the running, please monitor your points and check with Dennis if you feel that your totals are incorrect. Please don t wait until the end of the year. Each month, Dennis will supply the names of the leaders and the points totals to the newsletter editor for publication. That way the members can keep track of where they are in the standings. Board members are not eligible as it is the job of the board members to be at events and do much of the work needed. It would be unfair to the membership if the board members were eligible. All of the awards will be given at the Awards Banquet that is held in January. The 2019 points rules and prizes are listed below. Members are only allowed to win first place two years in a row. If a member comes in first place for the third year in a row, he or she will be named Points Winner Emeritus and will be awarded $50 in cash and have his or her dues paid for the following year. A.
